Curious about the average age of the boats owned here on RDP. A friend is looking for his first boat and it got me thinking for the average age of boats on the water.

20 years old, we bought her new for $23k.
Barrett did a motor/trans overhaul a few months ago, and we had new upholstery/carpet done two years ago. She has a 350 Mercury that runs like a champ, I still think we have just as much fun as any $300,000+ Wakeboard boat we pass on the water.

I’ve wondered about the age of boats as I look at the hundreds of them in the channel at pirates and Havasu. I’m not surprised the results are already leaning toward the majority being older boats. It means there are fewer ballers than maybe some think. A lot of those people bought boats when boats were reasonably priced. Lucky for them. I wonder how many of them would be boaters today if faced with todays pricing?

I overpaid for the Miller back in 2006.
$7200
I wanted that particular year ski jet bubble deck. The paint is pretty much all that remains from then.
My first hot Rod boat was a 79 Miller.
I will never admit to anyone including myself what I’ve spent over the years on her though!! Lol

She could use a full trailer rebuild right now. It’s pretty shitty.

🤣 I know what you mean. I stopped keeping track of what I spent because I didn’t want to know anymore 😳. With that being said I could of had a brand new boat by now but I’d rather have a pristine old boat any day over a new one. I’m sure many of you with bad ass classics feel the same way.

The 70’s and 80’s small jet boats like this are the Perfect River rocket. I like v-drives more, but for river boating, hard to beat this setup. Crank some AC/DC, water ski, float, it’s a winner. Whatever you spent, it’s a bargain. JMO anyway.
Thanks.
It’s actually a 19.5’, it’s deceptively fair size for an old jet boat.
I think these Millers are the best jet hulls up until you get to a winger.

Mine will go 80+. People are surprised at how well it handles chop.
Dont get me wrong, it’s still a little hot Rod and will air out easily if you get cocky with it! Lol
It’ll scare you straight.
I’ve had it long enough to where I’ve gotten OK at pedaling it and flying around.
The hyd diverter with steering wheel buttons is a must. I’m on the diverter, the pedal and the wheel like a mad man. Lol
The addition of a plate and shoe changed the entire boat. Tom and Josh cut the bottom and did all that. Ad the HP went up then came the rail kit. As the speeds went up then came reglassed stringer risers and reconfigured seating for safety reasons. Tom made me the back shell and the 2 bucket shells were from CP.
Had them covered at upholstery shop in Redding. But before they were covered I had to engineer all stainless mounted seat rails and mounts. You can shake the entire boat and trailer by grabbing any seat and they will not come loose or anything like that. I also entirely resined the seat shells after all the wood was attached before covering. Getting rid of the lounge seating and wood screw mounting setup was absolutely required, and anyone hot rodding these old boats should address that first thing. Don’t wait until the seats rip out and toss you all over the boat. No one hardly ever sits in the back seat, it a functional fire wall at its core.

I started with a '73 Glencoe.
Next was a '75 Saguaro, followed by a '76 Eliminator Day Cruiser. Finally, a project böté, a '74 Miller SJ. All ditch pumps.
Dually is a '77. I've got most of the '70s covered.
