I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR WHY IT'S OK NOW (MAYBE IT'S NOT, THUS THE SECRECY):

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump is facing backlash after announcing he planned to hold a secret meeting with the Taliban at Camp David this weekend but canceled it over attacks overseas that left 12 dead, including one American.

Republican and Democratic leaders sharply criticized the president over two main concerns: bringing members of the Taliban to the U.S.—specifically to Camp David, a presidential retreat for presidents used for administrations, and the timing of the meeting — just days before the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Because Trump is a Republican. And Republicans created the Taliban in the 80's.

Its much like a parent disciplining their own child vs somebody else's.

I believe that is a bit of an exaggeration to say the least. Some of the original players did form the Taliban after they gave up the fight.

As for Trump bringing them to Camp David that is fucked up. It also goes against "The art of the deal" No way were the top Taliban guys coming to the US. Our top guy was going to negotiate with secretaries.

Sorry to disappoint, but I can not get upset and condemn President Trump over a meeting that was cancelled and never happened......I will leave the "negative speculations" for the RINOS and Liberals.

If Trump gets us out the ME, I don't give a shit what he does.......we've lost this war, just like Vietnam. Don't get me wrong, we COULD win if we had the stomach for it.....but we don't. The Taliban was in power when we invaded nearly 20 years ago and they will be in power when we leave. We lost. Period. The people of Afghanistan have made their choice, and that is the Taliban will rule so lets move on. I don't care if Trump has them at the White House staying in the Lincoln bedroom.....just get us the fuck out of the ME.

Um...OK... What part of the statement was a bit of an exaggeration? The part where we armed and trained them, the part where we hosted them in the oval office, the part where they went on to become the Taliban... ???? Help me out here.

And for the record I am 100% OK with helping the Rebels in the war against the Soviets. What I am not OK with is the total lack of follow-up and re-building when they were successful. Its almost like there are giant politically connected industries who need us to be at war in the ME in order to remain lucrative...

Saving face... Ever stop to think maybe the secret part was an "out" for the other side? Easier for them to go home empty handed if home didn't know they were even there...If some kind of positive deal, for them, happened, then they could revel they were there... Trump didn't want pressures on them from home before anything was discussed..

Yes ;)

They became the Taliban many years later. The US helping freedom fighters did not create the Taliban.

Wait Whuut!!!

Trump explained to all of us back in a January cabinet meeting that Russia invaded Afghanistan to fight terrorists.

"Afghanistan made it Russia, because they went bankrupt fighting in Afghanistan. Russia … the reason Russia was in Afghanistan was because terrorists were going into Russia. They were right to be there. The problem is, it was a tough fight. And literally they went bankrupt; they went into being called Russia again, as opposed to the Soviet Union. You know, a lot of these places you’re reading about now are no longer part of Russia, because of Afghanistan." (Trump Jan 2019)

First of all, there is no law saying that the president cannot have secret diplomatic discussions with foreign actors. To argue Trump is doing something underhanded is ignorant.

Making the Taliban come to the US to negotiate had to be done in secrecy, or they never would have agreed to meet. If word had gotten out, they would have been humiliated by their Iranian handlers. Not only that, it illustrates the weakness of their position. They couldn't get an agreement to meet in a neutral location, which shows the US had the stronger bargaining position.

Criticizing Trump for agreeing to meet with the Taliban shows the ignorance of the OP, the media, and the left. These same people have been asking why the war in Afghanistan continues, yet when a sign of clear progress in negotiations and an opportunity to bring our troops home occurs, there is no sober analysis of the situation, just more bombastic rhetoric.

The Democrats puffing up their chests and saying we shouldn't meet with the Taliban without the Afghan government involved ignores reality. The Taliban refuses to negotiate with that government, and there is no possibility of a resolution unless we get agreement from them first.

The Democrats are once again determined to deny Trump any credit for diplomacy, while at the same time they criticize the attempt to engage the Taliban so we can end the fucking war. The Taliban killed dozens last week along with four American soldiers, and Trump's decision to suspend negotiations was correct.

What needs to happen now is significant military action that really causes damage to the Taliban. This will let them know they cannot hope for a letup unless they come to the table.

TOTAL HYPOCRISY...

.

Camp David isn't just a special weekend fun spot where secret meetings are prohibited like the Democrats and media claim.

Apparently you and the media are ignorant of the fact that President Carter invited Arab leader Anwar Sadat and Israeli PM Menachem Begin to Camp David for diplomatic discussions which resulted in a breakthrough peace agreement.

The Camp David Accords were signed by Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin on 17 September 1978, following twelve days of secret negotiations at Camp David. The two framework agreements were signed at the White House, and were witnessed by President Jimmy Carter.

The second of these frameworks (A Framework for the Conclusion of a Peace Treaty between Egypt and Israel) led directly to the 1979 Egypt–Israel Peace Treaty. Due to the agreement, Sadat and Begin received the shared 1978 Nobel Peace Prize. The first framework (A Framework for Peace in the Middle East), which dealt with the Palestinian territories, was written without participation of the Palestinians and was condemned by the United Nations.

We've had troops in fighting the Taliban in Afghan for 3 admins now. The war continues and in my opinion needs to end. 2 ways to do that, complete invasion and overun the Taliban militarily which would cost billions more, lives would be lost on both sides, and it may take years to complete.

Way no, 2 is to use diplomacy and find a way to get the Taliban to reach some kind of agreement with the Afghan government. Real test of wills there and certainly no easy feat. No guarantee of working and the whole mess may continue on fro decades as things have gone ion other ME situations. But it would be far more better for all in the long run.

To me the question is politics by the OP who just wants to find fault with anything Trump does. On top of that, Trump isn't giving away billions of dollars, weapons or granting some kind of treaty that enables nuclear arming terrorists as O did in Iran.

I don't want the Taliban here, but more so, I don't want US troops in Afghan at risk. Shilly is just showing his hate and ignorance if he can't understand the tactics

This thread brings a few questions;
Where do Mooselumps shit when they are on an airplane? Their standard squat over a hole or in the aisle is not compatible with modernity.
How do they ship their slaves?
Do their goats have to pay full fare?

How so?

I’ve never made a derogatory statement about RBG, for instance, but im lumped into that because I’m a “Trumpkin”.
I’ve never said anything about chemtrails, but your hero constantly brings them up to minimize anything he thinks is a conspiracy.
I don’t think there’s any “conspiracy” behind 911 to the extent suggested in other threads, but I keep reading about how all of “us” believe ALL these crazy ideas.
The list goes on and on.
So when I say “you guys” it’s really no different.

Chopper boy and others from your “side” have posted words to the effect that Trump is a Dem in Rep clothing. It’s been brought up by “your” side that he was actually a Dem in the past.
So basically you are guilty by association within the structure of this forum.

I get lumped in with my team, you get lumped in with yours.
