one of the more notable crashes involving pilot disorientation was Kennedy who flew into IFR conditions and put it into the ocean although evidence suggest the plane didn't break apart before hitting the water.

also brings up the old joke what do the Kennedys miss the most about Martha's Vineyard? the runway.
What was Kennedy drinking when he crashed his plane.

Was in the news yesterday that the "75yo pilot"...may have not been the proper identification. He was listed as a retired Chicago PD officer. When Chicago PD was contacted, they have no record of anyone by the same name. They also mentioned the damage was so bad to the fatalities, it could be "weeks" before positive identification. FAA is trying to figure out who the pilot was for sure.

...I live within earshot of both Burbank airport and Whiteman air park ...all day long with the front door open ...I’ve been hearing prop engines running at high rpm sounding like like the plane that crashed...making me edgy...
... maybe I should shut the front door ???...

FAA saying “although still under investigation, the aircraft did break apart in flight”

YORBA LINDA, Calif. — Authorities on Wednesday identified four people, including an 85-year-old man, who were killed on the ground when a small plane broke apart in the air and crashed into a Southern California neighborhood last weekend.

The four victims were in a house that caught fire when parts of the plane rained down onto suburban Yorba Linda, the Orange County Sheriff's Department said.

Coroner's officials identified them as Roy Lee Anderson, 85, and Dahlia Marlies Leber Anderson, 68, both of Yorba Linda; 48-year-old Stacie Norene Leber, 48, of Corona, California; and Donald Paul Elliott, 58, of Norco, California.

Property records show Roy Lee Anderson and Dahlia Marlies Leber Anderson lived at the house that burned. The victims' relationships weren't immediately known.

The sheriff's department released a joint statement from family members thanking first-responders and asking for privacy.

"Our family bond is tight and each member lost in this tragedy represents more than just one role within our family," the statement said. "We lost parents, grandparents, great-parents, spouses, sisters, brothers, aunts and uncles. The home lost was a beacon for so many family and friends where many celebrations were held."

The pilot killed Sunday was previously identified as Antonio Pastini, 75, of Nevada.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators collected parts of the aircraft, the plane's records and information about Pastini, who was described as a commercial pilot with an instrument flight rating.

Preliminary information showed the Cessna 414A took off around 1:35 p.m. Sunday from Fullerton Municipal Airport, made a left turn and climbed to an altitude of 7,800 feet (2,377 meters) before starting to descend over Yorba Linda.

Observers said the plane initially appeared intact when it fell through a cloud ceiling at an altitude of about 2,000 to 3,000 feet (600 to 900 meters), NTSB investigator Maja Smith said this week. Witnesses said the plane's tail and wings broke off as it plummeted.

I heard this morning the pilot was a close friend of Dennis Hof of the Bunny Ranch fame and that’s why he flew routinely to Nevada and back.

Boy the comments on his last post on FB on Jan 31,2019 are all over the board. Leaves a lot to imagine...

As much I'm tempted to log on and view this, my paranoia, knowing FB will for eternity associate me with this guy prevents it.
I'm already pretty spooked at the associations FB has made between me and people I've had no contact with in some cases, 40-50 years.
I only joined for my kids, my friends list consists of them and their dogs --- oh and my daughter in law's friggin chickens

Facebook works great if you don't use your real name. :)

I spell my last name backwards. Those who I want to communicate with on face book know who I am.

Yes, this is the kinda shit I get and find it a bit unnerving (To put it mildly). I take my truck to a new to me local dealership for service. No emails, no online contact, I just called them to schedule the appointment (I'm old fashioned --- people to people communication) --- and WTF, now I'm seeing their dealership ads on FB when I log in.
Seems if I even think of an old friend, they pop up as a Friends Suggestion.
Of course because I've only provided FB with the absolute minimum of personal information, they're constantly bugging me to provide more and more --- No, Fuck No !!

My wife has an android smart phone. She was considering a new Iphone so we stopped by the local Verizon store. The Gen-Z sales dude spots my flip phone in it's nice little hip holster and just goes nuts. He got so wrapped up in berating my phone and trying every known sales spiel to talk me out of it, he pissed my wife off by ignoring her, lol
I love people's reactions when the inevitable "I'll text you" response comes out and I reply, "Well you can't" and proudly display my ole flipper :p
I do think it's capable, but I had Verizon shut that feature off day one, I didn't want to be bothered. Plus there's no way I could text with those tiny buttons anyway.

I am forced to admit that when offroading her mapping and GPS has come in handy a few times. When I'm forced to give up mine, I will, otherwise I'm keeping it :)
