An Indiana pit bull was tasered and put down after a man?s wife entered their home on Christmas day to find her husband dead from multiple bite marks. Edward L. Cahill, 40, bled out on his living room floor after one of his two 8-year-old pit bulls turned on him.
Indiana pit bull kills owner: Christmas day turns tragic after pit bull attack

Reports NWI.com out of Indiana Dec. 26: ?A Portage man was found dead in his home Thursday night after suffering massive blood loss from dog bites to his arms and face by his pit bull, according to Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris. Police said what appeared to be blood was visible on the floor around Cahill's body, on the carpet, walls and furniture.?

The pit bull that attacked Cahill, named ?Fat Boy,? had to be tasered by a police officer after an animal control officer was unable to get the trap line around the dog?s neck. The pit bull was later euthanized at the Hobart Humane Society ? something that Cahill?s wife had urged him to do in the past.

According to police, Cahill?s wife Blanca Rodriguez told officers that Fat Boy was ?extremely aggressive and unpredictable,? especially when he had a bone or chew in his mouth. The dog had bitten both Cahill and his girlfriend?s son in the past. UPI.com reports that Cahill had given each of his pit bulls a rawhide bone on Christmas morning. The other dog, named Keylo, was locked in the bedroom and evidently did not participate in the attack.

?It was the only dog that was able to get to the individual. It was very obvious,? said Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris.

Cahill's wife, Blanca Rodriguez, defended the dogs to the media, despite what she told officers in the police report. ?I don?t want people to think bad of pit bulls,? Rodriguez said. ?They were playful dogs. One slept with the girls and the other slept with me and my husband. It was just a freak accident. He loved his dogs. That?s all I can say, and I think it?s something that just went wrong. He was a great man. He was my best friend, my rock, and he loved his four kids.?

Commenting to NWI on the attack, professional dog trainer and certified dog behavior consultant Toni Bianchi said the attack was not because all pit bulls are inherently aggressive.

?Pit bulls get a bad rep,? Bianchi said. ?I think this incident has nothing to do with the dog's breed. I've worked with some pit bulls that are therapy dogs and they're great. An aggressive dog can be any breed. I've seen just as many good pit bulls as bad pit bulls.?

Beyond me.

My neighbor was smart enough to put his Pit down after it bit another dog and then a person.
He said that was enough, time for the dog to go.

I think there are warning signs with all dogs that show aggression no matter the breed. We use to have an aggressive springer spaniel that bit my nephew. I told my wife we need to be careful with this dog but it's only a springer we thought. The same dog later attacked a kid at the river. We didn't hesitate to put the dog down. I hated too but the writing was on the wall...

I have never read an article stating a Owner\Neighbor\Child, "was mauled\killed by a Cocker Spaniel, Dalmatian. Golden Retriever, Irish Setter..."

An article says that the CDC studies are subjective and not definitive. One study by the CDC sates that 67% of the fatalities are caused by Pit bulls and Rottweiler's. Pit Bull incidents make better news and are published more often than non-Pit Bull deaths.

Its more a most people are not capable of raising these dogs properly problem. These dogs and Rottweiler's need massive amounts of positive socialization, most people don't do this.

Why do they need massive amounts of positive socialization?

More socialization from puppyhood usually leads to a more stable dog. They also need lots of training from a young age. Both fronts the more the better.

I cannot think of one single reason to own one then.

If 67% of all boating fatalities were DCBs and Eliminators, they couldn't give them away.

The funniest thing about all you haters is that you think a pitbull is just one breed of dog....get the facts please. No such thing. I find it amusing just like the anti gun fucks calling an AR 15 an Assault rifle. Cough Cough.... pitty.jpg pitty2.png

I highly doubt the gang bangers are testing their dogs for temperament.

And I highly doubt they ever check their AK47s for accuracy...
I think all guns should be made illegal because of a few bad owners...

where did I say we should ban pit bulls? I was simply commenting the pic you posted where it said of the dogs we tested they were good. you and I both know a very low percentage of owners(and certainly not the bad owners) get their dogs tested.

I think you're both on the same page and misinterpreting the other.

Did this dog in the op come from a reputable breeder who health tests, temperament tests, titles dogs or a byb who threw two dogs together?

Haters gonna hate hate hate
You might be suprised to find these KILLERS on that list of lethal dog attacks in the US....Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, Dachshund, St Bernard, Collie, Irish Setter, Sheepdog, BEAGLE, Coonhound, and yes, even a mother fucking POMERANIAN. I bet the haters didn't realize you can make any dog mean as fuck. It's just unfortunate that the media has portrayed "pitbulls" as killers just as they have portrayed AR15s as evil assault weapons. funny thing is, nearly half of so called "pitbulls" aren't even "pitbulls" at all.
It's ok all you haters....look at how good the media made Ovomit look. :rolleyes

Hey Wicky,

The only flaw in your line of thinking (which I mostly agree with) is; lay a black rifle on a table, pull its tail, take its food away, mistreat it, don't socialized it, it cannot hurt anyone. Pits or just aggressive animals in general can rip your face off regardless. They are not just objects or tools to be used with human input required. I think most reasonable people understand this. The radical fringe don't care to recognize the delta between the two. The media tries to give human qualities to black rifles.

In this case, both bad owners and questionable breeds are under scrutiny.

Agreed Steve but, just as it takes a human to pull the trigger, it takes a human to pull a tail.
The stangest statistic I found out about pitties is that before 2012, there were less than 3 people, on average, ever killed in a single year from "them." Last year, there were 14 deaths associated with "them"..and I use the term loosely citing what I have said in my prior posts about misidentification. Huge increase percentage wise, yes. But still, with close to 10 million pitties in the US and only 14 deaths, the media portrays them as they are all bad and a lot of people have jumped on the hater bandwagon unfortunately. If I lived in LA and saw all the gang banger Raider fans with pitbulls, I'd probably be against them too. It is sad that they have become the dog of choice now for this genre. Before Old Yellar came out, Pitbulls were THE most popular dogs in America. We have several friends who are vets here in town and every single one of them owns more than one pitbull. We have had 5 now and they are the biggest hearted, sweetest, loyal, awesome dogs I have ever owned....and I lived to tell about it. So did my kids. So did my cats.

You use the word "hate" a lot. Do you know what it means?
I don't hate pitbulls. I have owned 2.

The second one I put down after my friends pit ate his 1 year old little girl.

You can live in denial all you want, and chances are you will never see or experience any tragedy.
More than likely you won't get sued, maybe your pit / pits won't kill the neighbors dogs, maybe you are a great owner.

I liked my pits, but when I saw the grease spot and meat that was a baby, it made it very clear exactly what the term "Russian Roulette" meant.
Throw up all the breeds you want, all the BS about vicious little dogs etc.
It won't matter.

You are a smart guy. You do know that 1 second is all it takes to lose everything you own, love, and cherish.
When a pit wastes a stranger or neighbor, guess what...check your insurance policy, then argue with them about what constitutes a "real" pit bull.

Anyway, I don't hate 'em at all, but I'll never own another one or ever allow one on my property.
Same with the pet wolves I've had in AK. Once you see it happen, all those excuses evaporate into reality.

Your reaction is totally understandable and I would understand if you hated them as it has hit home for you. I knew a kid that was mauled to death by a great dane when I was a kid. I still have a stigma about great danes. It is not much different than the person who destroys all of their guns they own because somebody in their house died from an accidental discharge from one of them. There is both an emotional cost and, like you stated, financial responsibility IF something were to happen. We live in a litigious society, unfortunately, and just living an everyday life, we stand to lose everything we own, love, and cherish. I have known hundreds of different pitties thought my life and haven't met a mean one yet. I guess I don't hang out with enough silver and black jerseyed folk lol. You have a legitimate beef where as, the majority of most "haters" is derived from media hype that creates the stigma.

Let's see the article where a "Pomeranian" KILLED a full grown adult male human fucking being.

Get realistic. I like all dogs but understand some have far greater physical attributes to cause damage than others. The turd (owner) in this article most likely was just a statistic and Darwinism prevailed. I don't trust "ANY" dog/animal around my kid. The stats that are not common news are the injuries caused by many pets that require reconstructive surgery. It just happens to be that some pets do not provide that opportunity. I have friends with almost 2k lbs. Bulls in their multiple pastures. Nobody is harmed because they do not introduce them as docile loving pets or treat them as such.

I have a very strong feeling that none of us would even recognize a pit from back then.

I believe you are correct.
For what it's worth, that pic is a chop.Notice the dogs head extends past the border;)
