It’s interesting to see how much Havasu has changed over the last 12 years.. when I first moved here the big thing I’d notice when I went back to Carlsbad was all the mercs beemers Ferraris etc.. in havasu you’d occasionally see something nice but for the most part they were all kind of just normal cars..

Anyhow post covid there’s a ton of nice cars running around Havasu.. but I saw a couple stand outs the other day when I picked the kids up from school.. like a Mcclaren

Money rides aren’t always coolest to kids. I alternate picking up our kids in the limo golf cart or topples “monster jeep”. They are disappointed when I show up in the truck or suburban. If the Can-Am didn’t have a locked rear end and chirp tires in all the turns I would probably take it until the Irvine Police Department objected.

Slightly unrelated, but a somewhat funny story. It was beautiful driving weather today so I pulled the cover off the stang and used her to run my work related errands and some personal ones including stopping by the grocery store. Well I locked the door when I went to go inside without even thinking about it. I guess it was the first time I've ever locked the doors because I soon found out, the door lock tumblers do not match the trunk tumblers or the ignition tumblers 😳.

So I called my friend who I know has a lock out kit to see if he can come rescue me but he wasn't at work today because his AC at home went out last night. Shit! I then put pride in my pocket with my keys that were useless at that point and made a few more calls and eventually got my ex-boss' daughter to come and save me with his lockout kit.

on a side note, I think I need to install a dead man's switch and new door locks!. These 60s cars are WAY to easy to break into.

My kids went to elementary school in an upper middle class neighborhood/school.
I did half or more of the drop off and picking up. Rolling the old conversion van/work van. It's not like my vans a pos. But I was the help to these kids. And some of the adults. My kids got teased over it. Called poor.
Now they are in a 7th -12th grade school.
The high school kids drive nicer rides than me. My kids are cool with it but I do feel a little bad for them sometimes.

Saw a one off Koenigsegg called the Draken all carbon fiber 1340hp, not street legal.

When I lived in Alta Loma, I was picking up my older 2 from after school childcare. My shitbox F350 crew cab in the lot, ladders on the rack and crap loaded in the bed.
A reddish orange Lamborghini pulls in, and parks two spots away...after making a horrendous noise scraping a speed bump

Further up the hill were some really nice places. I was way out classed in my old hood🤣

With as shitty as the roads are out here I’m surprised anyone owns a sports car in this town.

It's the old bootleg garage conversion everyone used to hate, but is now considered SOP per the dems "affordable housing solutions" that tossed zoning out the window
I HATE reading a real estate listing and the listing agent selling the garage conversion like its a good thing. I just cant see how that can be a good thing when it limits the already limited pool of potential buyers. There are very few people that I know that would ever want to buy a house without a functional garage.

When did this chauffeur the kids around thing start?

We got to school on our feet, our bike or the bus. And if our parents did drop us off, they typically did it a block away so no one saw. Rarely was a parent in the parking lot with a car, unless they were picking their kid up from the principal's or nurse's office.

In 1977 my parents lost their minds and sent me to Notre Dame in Riverside instead of the local public high school. I had to carpool with folks, and so depending on the day of the week I either showed up in a 1973 Olds station wagon w/ woodgrain siding, or a 1964 Dodge van, or a newer Audi 320i kinda thing, or a brand new F350 CC. My best friends came to ND from Elsinore in a 15 passenger van with their Grandmother driving.
By the time I graduated I had driven myself to school with a Yamaha DT250 (scary af on the 91), the Olds wagon, a Mercury Cougar, a big block manual Plymouth "Cuda, a Plymouth GTX, or one of 3 or 4 different Road Runners. I studied Mopar pretty heavily in high school.

This dude in my hood cracks me up. I built the house next door to where these two sit outside 300’ from the saltwater, and you can see how faded the covers are -

Funny. I was thinking the exact same thing a few trips ago out there. Times have changed in havasu for sure. NEVER used to see a Ferrari or lambo just cruising around mid week. Not surprising to see that shit now. Can pretty much guarantee you’re gonna see a nice high end car every time we’re out there now. Like rollin through Malibu. I always tell the kids, count how many exotic cars you see. Lol

For What it’s worth we pick up and deliver our youngest via golf cart to school. Wouldn’t have it any other way. Part of the culture around here.

There are times I feel bad for cars. Like a puppy, with bad owners. They don't deserve that.
When I was a senior in high school I drug home a clean Hallett flatbottom with an LT1 which made for some good times . My Dad flipped his shit and gave me the " if you don't have a garage don't get a boat or nice car or leave it outside , and if you don't own a home don't get a fuc%ing dog " speech. They moved at the end of that summer and the boat got sold. After seeing what it looked like after 5 months under a tarp I did learn my lesson ...

For starters, Jesus was in your yearbook. That was a different time and before horses even so there’s that.

In the snow.
Nope, Perfectly flat and nice weather also. :)

I just can't help but wonder if the reason less kids want to learn to drive, or learn to work on cars, is because so many don't need to anymore. No longer a necessity or a desire to get off the bike or bus and into a starter car if you are riding in the back of your parents car every day. Once they get out of the house, they would probably just switch to Uber as opposed to learning to drive or learning to keep a car running. Sitting in back probably becomes more comfortable for them.

In any event, having a daily chauffeur back and forth to school sure would have been nice, and made life a lot easier.

I rode the bus both ways to high school and back. Technically chauffeured but with a whole bunch of smelly homeless guys also on the bus with you, it’s a bit different than Jeeves rolling up in the RR.

My high school was near downtown LA for context, and I was coming and going from West LA.

I couldnt get my own car fast enough. It was a POS Chevy Cavalier I got for $1K. Wasn’t going to ever get me laid but at least I wasnt in a goddam RTD bus running down Wilshire.

How nice it must be in a world today, to have a simple mind, and enough money to back it up with a life style.

Forgot it was our day to car pool. Alice at work and me off in the other car.

6 day rotation schedule easy for a pea brain like to to get confused.

Maynard fired up the dually and picked the other kids up.

Only 16, supposed to be 18 to do that but sometimes we bend the rules.

I got called out by a parent for the truck, (contrasting all the high end cars at a high end school) not the rule breaking.

Word got around and several of us dads made it a regular occurrence to drop the kids off in our duallys.

Yeah, in her face.

I dont give a crap about what car you drive, but after being here for over 20 years what I do give a crap about is the numbers of prople moving here lately and the fucking traffice they've caused plus everything is crowded. The town numbers have swollen immensly but the services havent kept pace. Although we do have a 3/4 empty mall but the rest of Havasu has basically remained the same!!!!!!!! Meaming****** Exactly why Iwe left Mexifornia in the first place, Havasu was a nice little berg where you could buy a house for resonable money, go to a restruant and actually sit right down withour waiting, or go to a medical service and not stand in line for an hour ect. Nope I dont care for what the town has become but we are too old to move so we are stuck with it, although our little house has more than trpled in price but so has everything else, RANT OVER  Fuck it

My Mom used to say I was an "old man trapped in a young man's body". My views and world opinions were Archie Bunker like to her.
Well, I'm 46, and feel the same way about the Prescott area growth 🤣
