We have received 4 calls in the past month from "Chase Bank in Wickenburg", they want to discuss our account...................we don't have a Chase account. I checked the Chase phone number in Wickenburg and calls are coming from their number. I called the branch and they claim their number has been hacked and the hacker knows its a Chase number..................hackers seem to be taking this type of a scam to the next level..................

They don't even need to hack a number, they can spoof about any number they want. I've even got BS calls and the caller ID was my own number --- that's a bit of a give-away.
I don't answer any call unless I recognize the caller ID, they can leave a message if it's valid ---- they don't.

Wouldn't those be coming from the same numbers? 🤔

Not necessarily, I have a few firms and service companies we deal with and out of say 20 calls it might be the same # twice. It is the same person most of the time but a different # each time. I have their direct line to contact them but when they call me it's a different number.

The spoof calls/texts target your banking institution accounts. The fraud has become quite sophisticated asking if you authorized a purchase with your BofA card.
Simplest way to protect yourself is always ignore/do not respond & check your banking via your normal website.

Seems I got something from Chase warning of this, but did recently from our Credit Union warning of these scams. Unless I initiate a call to a known number, I don't provide any information or confirm any, period.

You guys need to learn how to use the ignore feature...

Works just as well in real life, as it does on here! 😁
Right?
So after you sort of chastised me for interacting with a random text, I got a semi legitimate email with my name, former address, phone number demanding bitcoin or else.
Kind of unnerving but nothing, of course, came of it.

Yeah, they threaten all kinna shit.

A few years back, there was a scam that said they had your browser history showing all the porn sites you visit. Pay up or we will release to all of your family!

Big wow. 🙄😜

That’s the exact thing I got.
I didn’t sweat though. I don’t Google porn. 🤪
