PRW is located in the perris/Moreno valley area I believe. They make some pretty nice looking parts from what i've seen. Not really run any yet. Prices seem reasonable for comparable items. They may use a Chinese mfg. facility for some of their stuff..

I remember PAW also known as Home Mechanics Warehouse, the owner didn't want to do internet sales thinking people want parts now, not next week, the rest is history. I liked PAW

Back in the 90's it was our go to spot when we needed parts now.
Yup, went to the one in Thousand Oaks and the one on Topanga. I had to pick up an oil pump at the Coldwater location once

It’s a bummer Joe passed away and they closed down the front retail portion of Hawaii Racing. Sounds like they’ll be doing car builds/work out of the back still though.
I did not hear he died

Ya, probably 5-6 months ago. He wasn’t doing good for a while. From what I understand one of the guys that worked for/with him bought out the inventory/debt and he’s keeping the back part open.

I don’t remember that store for some reason. I was a valley kid so we were always at the one on Topanga and then Mason (I think?) when it moved.
Shit, I forgot about the warehouse on mason

Don’t forget about Super Shops on Van Nuys blvd either!
Lopers, in Phoenix was great. in the 70’s and 80’s. 😉.
Things are changing, but nothing that enough money and time can’t handle.
I buy my flared fittings and steel braided fuel and brake lines from them, cause they have a great selection.
They occasionally have cheap t-shirts😂

Hawaii Racing, Service Center's, Super Shops, speed o motive. Blair's speed shop, PAW, J&M performance. Almost all gone now. Pretty sad actually. And Summit is now a billion plus a year company.

Ah man, you guys have no idea. Most of you had performance stores in your back yards…..

I grew up in a rural Kansas town. PAW was my favorite add in Car Craft and I ordered new catalogs whenever they came out.
Went to the bank, picked up cashiers checks and would mail them off and patiently wait for the deliveries. Man those days drug out…..

Had a Stupid Shop, I mean Super Shop in Shawnee Kansas we would drive to and listen to the morons they had working their talk about things they knew nothing about.

Open up the 4 page PAW centerfold add and dream about all the parts I wanted but couldn’t afford……..

Definitely a thread for the good old days section.

I went to Hawaii racing the week after Joe passed away. I hadn't been in years since he had the larger building off Madera.

Saying hi to Joe was half my reason for going.

I ended up seeing that knucklehead in Chatsworth who has an attitude bigger than his store. He didn't have what I was looking for either.

Now it's Jegs, Amazon or Summit for most things.

I can still picture either KLOS or KMET blasting on the radio at super shops on Van nuys boulevard in the '70s.

Or filling a nitrous bottle at service center on sepulveda after chilling it in the beer fridge at the liquor store nearby all day.

Speaking of old shops/places, what was the truck place in the 80s and 90s off the 605 near City of Industry/Irwindale area?
I lowered my truck from that place.
I can't remember

In the San Jose area while a senior in HS we had super shops and speed merchant. Speed merchant much more of a hard core speed shop. Super shops more commercialized and chain like, because it was. I worked at a smaller speed-ish shop Santa teresa auto parts. Never did get a full paycheck I bought so much stuff for my chevelle builds.

of course I bought from PAW as well.

later down in SoCal spent many hours hanging out at Vic Hubbard Speed and Marine. Great times.

Hey hey hey I worked at SS and prided myself on product knowledge and comparability and went to Mallory/Erson in sales and tech support.

But yes they had a bad rep for not knowing much. It was a tire and wheel shop with a speed shop front.

This... I lived in the far corner of Colorado, everything was mail ordered. The PAW catalog was dream fuel, don't think I ever ordered anything from it though.

One of the highlights of any trip to Vegas or Phoenix/Tucson was a morning driving around to the speed shops.

I grew up in Simi Valley. My buddies and I would go to PAW about once a week to look at the built “crate motors” on their show room floor. They also had complete Top Fuel, Funny Cars, and Hot Rods hanging on their walls in the show room. PAW and Hawaiian Racing were go to spots. Even though I never bought much more then a fuel pump or spark plug wires. Haha.

Funny this thread popped up. I just watched Frieburgers new video on this subject yesterday. He visits the location of a couple of the places mentioned in this thread. Super Shops and Blair’s and Glendale Speed Center. It was a pretty cool watch.

Also in Thousand Oaks, PAW took over the store
I never knew there was one in TO, but used to go to the 3 in the valley all the time. The main warehouse in Northridge was the coolest. Nothing better than rolling out of there as a youngster with a rubbermaid cart full of engine parts to build a motor.....better than christmas!

If anyone in Ventura Country / LA County needs over the counter high performance parts and accessories, plumbing / fittings or custom hoses - check out my friends buisiness DMP performance warehouse. Derek is a good dude, they specialized in fasteners, custom hoses and fittings, and then over the last decade expanded into selling over the counter high performance parts and accessories to fill a void in the area. With Hawaii Racing gone, they're pretty much the only game in town for alot of stuff.

Spent way to much of my pay check there , because Blair's speed shop was to expensive. Then took them parts To JMS in Monrovia on Huntington to build my 4v 351c.
