So I am a mandatory reporter, not just by law, but also by oath. Awhile ago, the end of last year, I did my duty. Well long story short I have gotton death threats, people saying they are going to kill themselfs, etc etc. Well today the shit really hit the fan. Just got a call that charges have been filed against 5 people involved. So naturally they blame me. Um, hey dip shit, don't give minors who you are shaperoning drugs and booze and you won't get in trouble and wob't be facing felony child endangerment charges. Don't blame me, no way in fucking hell I would risk a misdemeanor charge by not reporting a coach totally fucking up.

About fifteen years ago, I loaned my car to the daughter of a woman I was dating. The daughter needed a car to do some practice and then take her driver's test and she needed an automatic. It was an old car. No problem.

I stopped by one night and both the daughter and the woman I was dating were really hostile to me. They started ripping my face off when I walked in the door. I knew something wrong.

As it turns out, the daughter got in a minor accident with my car.

What is a mandatory reporter?

By law some people in certain positions are required to report any and all crimes they have knowledge of. Most school district employees are mandatory reporters of child abuse or endangerment, if you do not report the crime and it is found out that you knew about it you will be prosecuted....

What is a mandatory reporter?

Short Version:

Mandated reporters are individuals who are mandated by law to report known or suspected child maltreatment. They are primarily people who have contact with children through their employment. Mandated reporters are required by the state of California to report any known or suspected instances of child abuse or neglect to the county child welfare department or to a local law enforcement agency (local police/sheriff?s department).

IMO, all citizens should be mandatory reporters....

Mandated reporting relates to suspected child abuse. law enforcement, firefighters, teachers, CPS and a few other professions are mandated reports. So if they see, hear or are notified of suspected abuse, they are MANDATED by law to report the abuse to authorities or face criminal prosecution themselves for failing to report.

The long version includes text that describes the requirement of a mandatory reporter to be the biggest fucking killjoy in any given room.

RN's too; also mandatory reporting for the elderly. I see cases all the time where nurses turn a blind eye, opening up the elderly to elderly financial abuse.

My wife had to report twice. Big ordeal both times, but necessary.

I own guns.

I would never put myself in a situation to jeopardize that freedom.

Such as supplying minors alcohol, drugs or any other kind of contraband. That's their fuck up!

I am employeed by the cif and the ncaa as a wrestling referee. So I work with both children and adults. What really prompted all this was a Olympic level coach living with a athlete, huge no no. He also was activly partying with them.

Yeah, I hear some parents say, "They are going to do it anyway, they might as well do it in a "safe environment", under my supervision." :smackhead

I say, if they are going to do it, they better sneak around and hide it real good, like I did, because their ass is grass if I catch them!!!

So the coach is a male living with a female athlete? The athlete is underage?

No, but for shit like this yes. How would you feel if a coach you trusted enough to let them take your child on overnight trips was not only providing drugs and booze but was activly partying with them. Let me put it this way there are 7 sections to the coc, the guy violated 5 of them and all but 3 of the sub sections in those 5 sections. The only 2 sections he did not violate were the procedure and the advertising for business sections.

No, but a 39 year old dating a 19 year old, is at the very least questionable, in this case he violated his oath and the rules of his employment. If it was a minor I would have not gone to the ngb as required by my employer but the police, still its very fuckrd up

Oh yeah, after all the bs, I have made it my mission tp insure he never gets near the sport, so far the ngb and the usoc agree.

As a USSF Coach, I have ratted out a Mom for driving her daughters to and from soccer and to and from school absolutely shit faced. She was going to kill someone.

On her third strike... The cops found her passed out in her truck while she was in the Del Taco drive thru.

Kids are with their Dad now.

Okay. I am just trying to understand the situation you described. We have two consenting adults living together.
There is no illegal activity. You are raising an ethical question as to their professional association? The coach and athlete relationship having crossed the line if professionalism?

There is tons of illegal activity, that in itself violates about 20 rules of his employment and every princpal of being a coach

Not ALL, but specifically child abuse as stated.

Was just going to say.. Didn't you root for the Bandit? And love the movie Cannonball Run? America is better because it's not a society of mandated reporters.. But rather a society that sometimes people like and support the bad guy. :D

I wasn't questioning you turning the guy in.. don't care about the story either.

No lie, that's the second person I know of arrested for that!!!

Shut up Jason... It was a Berto's not a Del Taco.. :D

No, one gymnast and the other was a medium distance runner. I would never date some one from a sport I do, just way too much bs to deal with, besides per rules I would have to have no professional contact for 2 years and a mile og paper work. No thankd

in our Boy Scout troop in the 70's each boy scout was required to carry 2 cans of beer in your back pack for the troop master and any other parents that came on the overnight camping/hiking trip. It was just part of the deal. They figured it was easier for each one of us to carry 24 ounces that for them to carry a couple suitcases. I suspect under todays rules, he should have been reported, and i suspect he would now go to jail. How times have changed.

I may have missed something here...............19 yrs old is not a "Child" and therefore CA mandated reporting laws do not pertain to this.

Nope, but for kids, yes!

If someone lets their 12 year old child have a glass of champaign at a wedding with which to toast the bride and groom, you would report that to CPS? Perhaps the child should be removed from that damaging environment?

Not with you there.

no, but a coach giving booze and pot to a 16 year old, at a sanctioned event, where a friend calls you to come help as the child has passed out from it their consuption and the coach is off banging some one he should not be, there is a prob. its not about youths drink, or youths doing drugs, its about them being provided by a coach, and not just a coach at a low level, but some one that is at the top, that is fucked up, whats more shocking is while every one knew what was going on, the leaders of the NGB and the USOC, did not.
