How many here have pensions? I was reading how many mentioned them in the 40 net worth thread and was shocked how many mentioned them.

Lapd and Lafd are
The same, almost fully funded the people working pay 8% I paid 7 to 8% for 32 years. Screw part is I worked before and after and still working and paying crazy money into Social Security and how this thing called government pension offset. Basically Congress steals from you I normally would get 1700 a month in Social Security but due to the government pension offset I only get $520 and I pay thousands every year still.

Well damn...
Three or four threads that make me question my self worth and finances...

Oh well. Some may stack money for retirement, plan for future investment funds...I'll just be happy with the fact I don't have to stress about choosing between food, housing or fuel for the work trucks. Life is damn good!

I'm working on a CalPers, it will never be too great because I didn't start with the state until age 50. But I'm fully vested 32 years for social security.

Wifey will have a pension from Bakers Union. It was supposed to go insolvent - but that COVID rescue act saved it and they will be funded thru 2055.

Says i just got home from my 3 hour commute.
I did see a few guys doing wheelies on dirt bikes in front of my office today. So that made it worth going to downtown
How was the hobo concentration?

Have two plus a 401k beside other accounts. I've had a financial advisor for about 5 years and, as of today, am retired at 60. The advisor has already paid for himself.

As others have said in the net worth thread, it's difficult to guess at how much is enough because of the many variables involved. And since funds is a constantly moving target, we make a yearly budget and revise it each quarter wth the information known at the time.

That should tell me if and when I need to apply at Wally World to greet customers. Hopefully my "enough" is really enough to last quite a while.

How was the hobo concentration?
Real bad. Worse each week with the homeless hotel next door.
I went to cross the street today for a starbucks a few blocks away and saw this. Hobos are now stealing crosswalk boxes, scrap metal is my guess.

None for us. My father worked for the bennies and retired at 50, hated what he did. I’m 71, owner, show up most days, give my best 3 to 4 hours, go to lunch and go home. Learned that from the owner of the first company I worked for.
20/20 hindsight, I wouldn’t have changed a thing.

My first real job at Burroughs/Unisys computer (non-union) had a pension until I left 18 years later, they also had a 401k plan that I participated in. I didn't really even know about the pension that they contributed into until they sent me a letter when I turned 55 that said that the fund is almost bust and I could either choose an annuity or cash out. I took the payoff and put the $100k into my rollover IRA. Better than a stick in the eye...the 401k did much better :).

2 but they aren't really that much. Never counted them or Social Security in my retirement plan.
