Consider yourself in the smallest of minorities. In any case, however little you pay for cable TV and especially cable HD, you're still paying too much. It couldn't suck any worse.

I consider myself very fortunate to get the deal I get. A good majority of my family works for the major cable operator in my area and that's why. If it weren't for that I'd be paying something close to $200 a month for the package I have , which I would not pay.

I knew there was more to the story. But, like I said, if you're paying more than free for Cable HD-Lite, you're getting ripped off.

I used to have a big satellite hookup and it served me very well for about 18 months. It was cool to be able to have hundreds of channels to flip through. Even when there was nothing on, I couldn't flip through the channels quickly enough to determine that before the time slot was over and another round of shit was served up. There was plenty of good stuff too, much of which is till being broadcast regularly.

Three years ago, I had a major lifestyle change. I pulled the plug on the satellite and TV gear, found the door, and went outside. I've been enjoying a more active lifestyle ever since. It's the best thing I've ever done.

I have no cable, no satellite, no digital TV. I download the odd show from the Internet but it's rare.

I would imagine it's easier for me to live with no TV, given I'm a workaholic, but I recommend the lifestyle to anyone who thinks there may be more to life. There is.

We like having satelite in the RV when the weather rolls in when we're on the road.

After laying some pipe with the squeeze, nice to relax and doze off to a flick.
Other than that,, we have little time for it except football and Fox Happy Hour.

300 channels, and rarely something on, except Vince of course:

I had the 10" c band 20' in the air for awhile. I think I was more impressed with the fact that I could sit on my couch ,look way out in my back yard ,push buttons and see the big dish moving around. After that I hacked direcy tv for quite a few years, had to keep reprogramming the cards, buying gizmos. I had every dam channel available, all the movies, all the porno,I could watch a baseball game from the home network, the away network, the mlb network, any which way I wanted. Then the Direct TV people got warrants for all the parts suppliers and got the names of everyone that had been buying the parts and sent legal packages to everyone and took lots of people to court and made pretty big settlements. I told them to kiss my ass and never made it past the second notice. Never heard from them again. Now I just have cable and it sucks.

Nothin like the good old days...

I'm with Brown on this one. If I really want to watch something, then I download it... the other bonus to that is that if it doesn't meet my expectations (i.e. a scifi show without hot aliens chicks) then I fast forward to the good parts.

...BUT , I have to have it because of wifey and chile. They won't accept not having immediate programming.

...gotta go grout a floor... you know...enjoying a more active lifestyle.

Why do you have to go 30 days without it?? And then a 50/50 chance of getting something else??

For those who don't keep up with the PB forums, this is along the same lines as getting gas prices down by not buying gas for a day.
I wonder what would happen if, all of a sudden , a million customers suddenly dropped their Dish, cable satellite etc services all on the same day ?
That would be a sudden loss of say $50 MILLION dollars gone from the industry for ONE month? Do ya think ANYBODY in that industry would notice ?

BRILLIANT :gayfight :hmm

Both of mine look "Brilliant" to me..........:beer

It's nothing personal, but as several people have indicated, you started a thread and never finished the thought.......:smackhead

You title it "Paying TOO much of cable/satellite TV", (who isn't?) and you got some responses.

And you ask....."Would you be willing to go 30 day's without cable/satellite TV if you KNEW you had a better ( way better ) than 50/50 chance you could get it ALL, I mean EVERYTHING, for say..$50 a month ? Just a Yes or No answer will do".......:hmm

Most people answered "yes", and no response or explanation from you.

I asked, "Why do I have to go 30 days without?"......no response.:smackhead

I'm just guessing, but I think maybe a few people thought you had an intellegent solution.......

You could just start a poll, and say, "answer yes or no":

1.) Do trucks cost too much?
2.) Does gas cost too much?
3.) Do you understand women?

We all know what the answers would be....so what's the use?

It's nothing personal....I just don't see the point of your thread.

When I started this thread I was trying to put it up as a poll but I managed to screw that up. Anyway , what got me to thinking about this subject was a couple years back when gasoline “skyrocketed” to $1.50 a gallon:eek:, people were threatening to boycott gasoline companies by not buying any product on one day of the week or another. In the past couple of months I’ve seen at least 4 threads her on RD’s & PB website regarding this same subject. Now, I know, we all NEED gasoline just for our daily life stuff, get to work, get the kids & groceries, go to church etc., and all, but the one thing we, the American consumer, all have in common that we don’t REALLY NEED is satellite/cable TV. So I’m thinking if ,as was suggested in one of the “gas threads”, YOU contact 10 of your friends via email, they contact 10 of their friends , etc., etc., etc., It really would not take that much to get a million plus people on board. Now, you tell your satellite/cable provider, today is March 21, on June 1st, I’ll be willing to pay a flat fee of $50 a month for EVERYTHING, movie & sports channels, network channels etc. or I’m cancelling my account. So now lets say you COULD get a million plus customers that are paying say an average of $75 a month for services ( way low , I think ) that all of a sudden cancel, that’s a $75 million DOLLAR hit that that industry takes…………for ONE month. I have to believe SOMEBODY’S gotta wake up and think WTF ? Now how do I get these customers back ?? The worst thing that could happen is , you go without TV for a month ? Easy enough to reinstate your service, but I truly believe if you got enough customers to follow through on this they’d ( the TV providers ) have to see it our way or else. I already know the # 1 response I’ll get to this is, “ well gee , I know I’m probably paying too much for what I’m getting, but it’s handy to have….. I get home from work and I just wanna unwind in front of the TV, blah, blah , blah” The # 2 answer is gonna be, “ my kids CAN’T go without the cartoon network and I can’t possibly entertain them all by myself “. After almost 30 day’s of this thread being up, 800 and some views, only 30 some replies,…………………… maybe everybody else is happy with what they’re getting.? So there you have my thoughts on the subject. Didn’t mean to leave anybody hanging, like I said, I was trying to post this up as a poll, before I posted it. I’m off now, back to obscurity . Oh and BTW, nothing personal, but, what are you paying for health/car insurance ? :joke

I don't think it would work. Most providers of broadband, DSL, cable and satellite are public companies. They are not making very much money....you can look up thier financial statements and see that most might make 10% a year if they are doing well.....and many have gone bankrupt during the last five years.

There is competition in most of these areas, and there will be more and more as time goes on, and prices will continue to drop.....but they are not going to cut your rates 50% or more because of a "boycott".

And keep in mind, to just get the Internet bandwidth (not counting TV cable and telephone) most of us have now in our homes would have cost over $1000 per month 10 years ago.

And it really isn't personal, Skyskier has had a lot of great threads and has posted a lot of cool pictures:beer

Bajamike, No worries here, I KNOW it's only the internet :D I'm an old rebel , shoot from the hip, open mouth, insert foot , apologize after the fact type  I didn't stop to think about how many people use the cable for internet service, so that would make this plan all the more difficult :( I'll tell you what REALLY, REALLY put this particular burr under my saddle was when I saw on TV the story about the owner of adelphia cable a few years back. Seems he got his gonads in a bind with the ftc, or some such govt. agency, they locked him up in JAIL for the night, the next day somebody from headquarters shows up with 5 MILLION in CASH to bail him out, next day he comes up with another 3 MILLION in CASH to bail out his kid, and while they're doing this story they show a "flyover" of his mega million estate, complete with his personal 18 hole golf course on the grounds :hmm I've been self employed for 52 of my 61 years, I've started up, folded & sold more "businesses" than most people will have "job's " in their lifetimes. Some were moderately successful, most were complete fiasco's, but I know somewhat what it takes to be a success in business, and if I EVER were able to put my hands on 8 million in CASH, I can GAURANTEE you, I didn't make it without "rapeing over the customer base":eek::eek:
