I had this happen to me at a drive thru last week. Pulled up to pay and get my order, and girl says the guy ahead of me paid for my order. I would assume to proper educate is to pay for the one behind me, so I did. Cost me a few more dollars, but no big deal, its Christmas.

Question is, do you continue to pay for the one behind, or be "that guy" and say Thanks, and pull away?

This happened to me at In N Out a few years back. The day before I gave someone a perfectly good washer and dryer set so I said thanks and pulled away.

There is some story somewhere about someone paying for the food for the guy behind him and then taking their order since he paid for it. Lol

I'll do that at starbucks occasionally and tell them to give the drink i paid for to someone during the day that they think needs it.

Makes me feel good.

Seems that the assumption for the person doing that is that you "pay it forward" by paying for the person behind you?

I went thru a local drive thru last week and a lady came flying in the wrong way and entered the drive thru lane from the exit. She cut right in front of me as I was coming around the building. I was pissed, the wife is all, don't do anything, we're not in a hurry just let it go, blah, blah, blah. Naturally she then orders a ton of stuff and took forever. She finally gets her 3 bags of food and pulls out. I pull up to get our food and the girl tells me the lady in front of me paid for our order!!! My wife is laughing at me like I did something wrong, all I'm thinking is, shit let me know next time, I would have ordered more.

I'm not into this at all. If you are inline at Starbucks for a 10 dollar coffee, then you aren't that "needy" for me to "pay it forward". LEO or Military? Yes, foods on me!

Now the people working behind the counter? I tip heavily all the time. I have been there, done that at Fast Food places. Its hard work. You have to put up with peoples shit on the daily. Can you imagine right now especially with everyone losing their mind? I tip heavy and often for people that go the extra mile.

Who says you need a car, lol. Caught in the act!

And yes, we kept the train a rollin'

It happens regularly here, sometimes it costs a few dollars more, but then again, sometimes it's a few dollars less.

My kid worked his Starbucks shift Xmas eve. People were pounding on the window after closing screaming bloody murder to open up. Gotta love people’s Xmas spirit.

That might have been me, I paid for the cop behind me at Sonic. When I got home I had his food as well, I felt terrible...

The only people I will do this for in a restaurant is military..

A couple months ago, I was having my usual 11am brunch at one of the restaurants I frequent over by the shop when I saw what looked like a daughter and an 80+ something year old walk in and sit down at the booth next to me. It looked like it took everything that 80+ yr old could muster just to be leaving the house and sitting there. I didn't talk to them, there were no badges or veteran clothing of any kind. I picked up both their meals and drinks without a single word said, nothing expected in return. It just seamed like a good thing to do

However yall like to make deposits to the karma bank. I say fuck it. Good on all of you for doing it

Paid for two military young men at an in and out in Kingman. They were a bit apprehensive at first. Is there a rule against this?

I would be the guy to say thanks and go. I don't know the people behind me or what I may be getting myself into. If anything I'll pay for my meal and tell them to skip me in this pass it on game. If I can't then I'll just donate $20 to the military group I already donate to.

If it keeps getting repeated it defeats the purpose of someone getting a free order. Only one person will get a free order at the end. Strange people think it’s like a good thing or something to get hundreds of cars in a line doing it.

Some people just prefer paying for themselves. The offer from a stranger is thoughtful but be respectful of their decisions and don't be pushy or someone gets hurt feelings.

I would just assume pay for my own meal.

It happened to me one time where the person ahead I guess paid and I said thanks. Took my lunch and left. In hindsight maybe I should of just paid for my own meal and passed it on. Don’t recall them giving me that option though, only would you like to pay for the people behind you and the answer was no.

I’ve paid for the car behind a couple times. Usually if it looks a little worse for wear.
During all the riots and horse shit I was in the local Maverick gas station, two Draper City Officers come in while I’m checking out with a 30 pack. I waited until they got their lunch and drinks and came up to check out. Told them both, put your stuff up here, Lunch is on me, and if they wanted to go back and get more to do it. Told them I appreciated all they did, and that as far as I was concerned, do what you have to, to go home to their family.
