We have to put our sweetheart GSD down today, she has been fighting a massive cancer tumor for 6 mos. Paulie was chasing her ball yesterday morning with me, she is my shadow follows me everywhere. I had to go to the dr yesterday and she hadn't moved, mrs beerrun had been on the floor with her since I left. At bed time last night she still would not move. we were in the shower and she came in, I was thinking she was just not feeling good and she would be better in the morning. Paulie didn't want to leave the bathroom so we let her sleep there. Early this morning she was whimpering from our hallway with her head in our bedroom where she normally sleeps. i went to take her out and she can't get up so its time to help her meet our other GSD in heaven. We are going to have her cremated and plant a rose bush with her this is her home, the only one she knows.

I want to BBQ her a ribeye wrapped in bacon but I don't think she would eat it

So sorry for your loss. They just don’t stay around long enough and when they go it rips your heart out. We had to do the same thing earlier this year and don’t think I am over it yet

I think that's where we are no more
After $1000.00's of dollars multiple vets there was never an answer. We just felt like we let her down. Your pets depend on you to care for them. Tried and tried, never an answer as to what was wrong. Finally had to carry her in to be euthanized. She was fully alert just not able to stand or walk.

Damn, I hate these threads, but it just shows how many of us love our dogs like (maybe more than) family. It too has been 28 months since I put my last one down, and just can't do that anymore.

My condolences to you and the Beerrun family!

Really sorry Chris. This is always one of the hardest choices we have to make , literally playing God. You don't want them to suffer but you don't want to cheat them out of any good days they have left either. I'm afraid that I will be in the same boat as you soon. Our little cocker is getting skinnier by the day and dosen't have much of an appetite. At this point I just feed her whatever she wants , she loves BBQ brisket, hot dogs and most people food but will snub just about any dog food.

RIP Paulie! We just went through this in February. I hope you and your family find some peace in knowing Paulie is not in pain or suffering.

Our vet did nice little tribute for us. They took his paw print and tufts of fur and put them in a frame. Nice little memorial.

May she RIP. Know exactly what you are going through.
Take your wife somewhere today to relax and talk, it helps.

So after that took her yesterday I think we both were in shock didn't know what to the house seems so quiet. Finally told Mrs beerrun let's go for a ride we stopped at a winnery and she had a dress of wine we enjoyed the fresh air and talked about our favorite memories then drove over to see the camels 🐫 then home still a little shocked she wasn't waiting for us but we will get through this. Thanks one more time the people on RDP are amazing

Sorry man. Really.
This is the main reason I haven't gotten another dog. I can't put anymore down. It kills the family

So sorry to hear this. I hope it gets easier with time.

Marley was our first child. I dread the day. Still miss my pit I had before I got married. He was a great dog too. They really are man's best friend.

Sorry you're going through this. It'll take time. You're used to her being there smiling, or present out of the corner of your eye, and she's not. Hang in there, it will get better with time.

So I know I'm crazy but thinking about yesterday Paulie would not get up couldn't get up but when her dog sitter came over she jumped right up and visited for the 10 min she was here to say goodbye same with Mrs beerruns best friend jumped up and visited staying up till she left. That dog didn't want her friends to know she was sick didn't want them to worry about her. Throughout here life she has done some really brilliant things that was her last effort to let us know she is good

Just read this whole thread, with a big lump in my throat and a tears in my eyes.😭

It sucks to have to help them over the rainbow bridge. I sit here in my office, looking at a wall of ashes and ask myself why we put ourselves through it. The only answer I ever come up with his life is better with a dog.

I am truly sorry for the loss of your dog and way too soon.☹️

They always find that last bit of strength , my old lab got up and tried to chase a rabbit on his last day.

So sorry. We lost two last year and it hurts so bad. Paulie is beautiful and know that she loves you and will be waiting for you. When you are ready there are so many dogs needing a home and your love.
