So I got my tax bill today and guess what - IT WENT UP 10%
Really???? In this economy?

From what I can tell, part of it is a large rise in Buckskin San and fire.
I haven't paid Buckskin enough - $7300, $200/year and permits? Are they governed by someone?
Who do I complain to?
I am so pissed!

Buckskin Fire Department and Buckskin Sanitary are two separate entities. They just share the same name.

Each one is governed by two different elected Board of Directors.

If it's like Maricopa county....You got the bill today. You should have received notice of the assessment figure 6 months to a year ago.

That assessment figure which becomes your bill (that you just got) is based on figures that were compiled over 18 months ago, before mailing the assesment. You can fight the assesment during a certain period that has now long since expired.

Find out when the assesment comes out and plan to fight it if i hasn't gone down. Our assesment in Marciopa country went down 40%

The assessment just tells you how much your property will be taxed on. (valuation).

The actual amount of the tax comes after all the entities figure out their budgets for FY2011. For up-river, those entities are: The County, Parker School District, Arizona Western College, La Paz Hospital, Buckskin Fire, Buckskin Sanitary, etc.

While you can appeal your assessment (valuation) to the Board of Adjustments, you can't appeal the tax RATE that each of those entities set. All you can do about those is bitch at the governing boards about their budgets being too fat and (if you're a legal resident) vote them out of office

The County tax rate went DOWN this year, but most other districts went UP. I've tried to find the exact rates for each entity, but haven't had much luck. I'll keep looking and see what I can turn.

Oh my, you just hit my only complaint about La Paz County for the last several years. I usually sound like a broken record when it comes to property taxes here. Don't feel bad mine all went up 10 to 15 %.

My wife has appealed ours several times and they have always lowered them. Best of luck.

Do we see a tax revolt in the future? What happened to the last one to hit the ballot?

It is just as boat cop says. Basically even if the value of the all of the properties goes down, the tax rates will go up to meet the budget demands of the departments.

Ok, so a little rise in all of the budgets, BUT WHAT THE HELL IS BUCKSKIN DOING? Other than assessing me to death and raising the tax rate on top of that. I know I can complain to their board, but I have dealt with them and a bigger kangaroo court is hard to find. Who else oversees them?
