Today I was treated to a tour of what I am told is the old Parker post office and dry goods storage. I understand it was in use sometime in the 1800's and is at the end of what once was a ferry crossing.

looks pretty rad, did you take a covered wagon to get there?

I'm not that old. My parents brought me over on the ferry. :p

I imagine that Sky Skier came by covered wagon.:D

Great pics!! I want to go

These photos don't do it justice, it's amazing.

The previous owner of the cave brought out a crew from Disneyland to create what it is today.

Where is that ? Looks really cool .

I'm not sure where it actually is. I was blindfolded and driven there.

The price of admission was one bottle of Jack and a RDP shirt. Being that I had neither I offered the owner two HotBoat shirts and got in.

Riverboat captain Tommy Kinders used the cave to store dry goods and anchored his river boat out front Tommy also started Riverland that originally was named Kinders Kamp or Tommy Kinders . The cave with the old door is easy to find on city streets on the Arizona side and is for sale the second is a private residence with a 3 story house above it . Both caves started out as one but now are on separate parcels .

He's not real happy with you. :swear

The owner said that you posted pix of him on the strip while he told others that he was too busy to go to work. :D

I didn't have the nerve to tell him that it was most likely me that posted those photos. :yikes

Cool pics, thanks for sharing.

Funny thing is when I was young, I didn't really care to learn about history.
But as I age, I really enjoy seeing how it was in the old days.

My parents bought there in Marina View from Betty Hunter in the early 70s, in fact our old trailer is one of the last original trailers there. Betty and Doug lived in the double wide across the street (now gone) that has the entrance to the cave with the old gate. Place is amazing, when it's triple digits outside it's nice and cool in there. Guy drinking the beer, in the other end of the cave, is my old partner with a house next to the cave, he's still there.

I took this pic in May '74, my dad in Levis and some neighbors he nicknamed the 'animals' and their bad ass Nordic ski racer. Behind them is Doug and Bettys house that backed up to the hill, at the rear of their patio is the gate to the cave.

A little trivia. The US gave people federal patented mining claims in order to store supplies in old mines in case of nuke attack. So a lot of old mines are set up as "bomb" shelters.

You can still get those by the way!

True.. But in the 1950's a lot of the patented claims was so the fed could use the mines for shelters.

Wasn’t aware of that. My father in law keeps telling me to go file a mining claim on some of the BLM Land out here. I don’t remember how many acres you get but it’s a nice piece and it’s free if you are willing to jump through hoops to get it.

Its a crazy system. But the FIL is right. The reason though gold rush does mostly the Yukon now. Is here you need to work the claim to keep it.

I haven’t looked into it much (yet). I was thinking about claiming some land out in the desert and building a cabin out there and scratching around in the dirt a bit.. if nothing else it would be a good bonding experience

I was there for 4 days the week before and then we were about out the door for Thanksgiving but my wife fell and fucked up her shoulder pretty good so instead of the river we went to emergency. She hurt it at the annual Thanksgiving day kick ball game. That will be her last.
