Hello who biult the red and white #151 boat? it looks like a shiada top that has beem mofided and and a cat bottom.

It is a Schiada deck that was widend 6" to fit over the top of a Jones tunnel. It is a one of a kind & total red headed step child. I wish I never got involved with it but after 4 yrs of designing & changing shit I am commited to making it a winner. First year it ran 65. next year it ran 75. The year after I was running with Gary at 82 to 83 mph. This year it rode better but was struggling in the begging and end of the race. It hates smooth water. I am going to flip it upside down again this winter & add multisteps to the bottom. Make some prop changes. Cut a pickle fork in the deck & redesign the deck between the forks to create some lift. It has good potential. Just will take some serious out of the box thinking. It finished this year & didn't kill anybody. :thumbsup

Your boat looked great this year. We were really impressed in how far its come along and congrats on the finish. Thats a huge achievement. One thing I did notice about it was that the prop seemed to unload quit a bit. Like the ass end was out of the water a lot.

Wheeler, the pics are AWESOME!! Where are you taking them from? (The ones above the boats?)

I started out at River Rat Mikes then went over to Racer Den's, Denny took me down the street and sent me up on on a hill where Darrin was also shooting from, here is a picture of the hill from River Bounds thread.

Thank you. Yea it is still hobby horsing, especially in the smooth shit. I was hoping for some gail force winds. Would have really helped out. I am going to make some pretty stout changes here soon. We need to keep the ass planted, & nose up! We will prevail!!!!:champagne:

Don't give up on the #151 project. Back in the 1960s there was a similar boat/set-up, "The Miss Long Beach" owned and driven by Dale Brown -- it was a V-drive cat (I think is was a Stylecraft). Ran several of the big marathlon races (Salton Sea, Elsinore 500, Parker 9-Hour, even pulled in the Catalina Ski Race). Very fast -- was out front a couple of times -- mechanical problems always seemed to keep him from a podium finish.

If you had Teague's motor shop @ your disposal, wouldn't you go w/ EFI?

I sure as hell would. Better Mileage could make a sizeable difference in this race...

Actually with the mandatory pit stops, I don't think better mileage would be that big of an advantage. Now if it was a you stop for fuel when you need it kinda deal.. absolutely.

Maxi,
Perhaps a extension on the ass-end of this thing so you could push the motor a little further back is the answer you've been lookin for!
But then again, Bilgie's pit pic might also be the answer to your prayers:D

I remember Bob Teague's boat at Clear Lake water ski races. Must have been mid '80s.

Strangely I never thought it was that important either.. Other people seem to think so though?

Exactly right. Jones bottom and Schiada top. I think Maximus (Ben) bought it tha way.

Carl

What's the advantage of making a Frankenstein boat? Here's one with a Schiada bottom and an Eliminator deck.

I haven't had much time for toy's lately.
Racer Den went through the engine and it's ready to go, I'll let you know when I get it on the water.

I'm thinking of larger turbo's, what do you think? :D
