Why do you sound like you just got done running a marathon was their a hamster that needed saving at the top of that hill
If you go with him, make sure it’s winter. It’ll get real hot wearing this

You will probably be fine @ the blue water though i haven't stayed there since I got married 19 yrs ago... View attachment 1209294 stop by the SE29 pit and say hello. While we all love the k boats the SE class puts on a really good show too, very tight racing there.
Looking good,Warren!

Great time at the races today. The teams put on an awesome show. Big crowd. Spent the evening at Bluewater, Blackjack and the Steakhouse. Nice facility, very friendly staff.

3:30 am roust in Hermosa Beach today for the drive out. Long day, but big fun. Good night Irene.

Thought I heard/read something about they were doing construction in the pit area or somewhere and it wouldn’t be complete in time for the races. I’m a little hung over so I could be totally wrong 🤪
No, your correct. Ross announced today they f d us w/were "doing construction so pound sand". He did say he working on another venue here in cali that will replicate long beach for the club ( read that $$) but it's currently too early to tell yet.

Congratulations on your 1st place in qualifying Wzu. Will stop by the pits later to say hi. We are roughing it at Pirates. View attachment 1210229
Thanks Carr. We finished the day w/ solid performances. Swept both the SE & CE classes and ran w/in 3/10's of dq. Really happen considering how bad my first 2 laps were in practice this morning. My crash @ the last race left a significant mental mark. Glad I pushed thru it to a successful result. Looling forward to tomorrow and maintaining the same efforts.

My crew and I feeling good about our day.
Come on out tomorrow and enjoy some more great boat racing action. Remember to wear closed toe/heel shoes for pit entrance regs..
Thanks for the positive vibes y'alls and the great pic. Wheeler.

How will I recognize you. Will you be wearing a Red Pendleton with matching head gear?

I have a pretty good contact in Racing/Politics in Long Beach.
It’s been known for a couple years that “construction” was supposed to start sometime this year or next.
They are preparing the Marine Stadium for the 2028 Olympics.
The stadium was originally dredged specifically for rowing events at the 1932 Olympics.

The project will include new restrooms and seating along with an overall beautification of the “Stadium”.
From what I have been told, after the Olympics in 2028, the water will be “passive” use only.
Sadly, we have probably seen our last powerboat race held there.

Miami Marine Stadium died a slow death as well. Used to race unlimited hydroplanes there. Now it’s a ghost town.

Saw a pretty good video about Miami Marine Stadium a couple years ago.
Long Beach has been on life support for years. Yeah it’s nice to get one race a year there, but even that race paled in comparison to the circle boat races of the past, not to mention drag races there 6 to 8 times a year.
Lotta factors that play into it but the bottom line is, interest in boat racing(and Motorsport in general) is whats dying, especially from a fan’s perspective.
Was looking through an old Magazine yesterday that was published in October of 1976…and this is just what’s going on the last 2 months of the year!
No comparison to today…Sad

The construction that's already started is between the closed end of the stadium, the West end, and Colorado lagoon. They're making a wider, open, and for lack of a better word, river that will allow for better tidal flow. Almost all of my life the lagoon's been a fucking sewer. Back after the '32 Olympics it was very deep. in fact the 10 meter practice diving platform was still in use well into the 50's when my mom was a kid and lived down there. In the 60's a freeway was going to be built running through that part of LB, running north and south, and the only real construction done was to re-route all the run off away from the proposed freeway and into the lagoon. Slowly filled up with silt, and crap and made the lagoon very shallow. A few years ago they dredged it and it's been pretty clean in there. I have a friend that recently caught a 6 foot leopard shark in there. Too big to get through the grates that are in place to stop big fish from entering there, not sure how long that shark was in there to get to that size? Also they have big stingrays now, massive. I have a buddy that swims his laps there, fuck that. I'll stick to the lap pool I go to every day.

I don't think the stadium will be used for rowing in the olympics. It's way to short and the boats are much faster than they were in '32. Not enough shut down area. Even in '84 they raced at Lake Casitas, not the Stadium.

We had a great finish to an awesome weekend of racing. We swept the weekend with first place finishes in SE & CE. What a way to redeem myself from the disasterous crash at the thansgiving regatta. Glass repair and a new paint job provides for quite the educational experience.

Lol.. great shot bud. That's John Mckee in the beautiful red SE78 boat and his son James driving Dave Shaws #10 this weekend. John got the hit at the flag and smoked the field to the turn, I was surprised and happy for him. He's worked really hard to get that boat working and it flat worx now. Fortunately, I was able to get thru the turn really clean and quickly and drive on for a p1 finish. James did a great job driving this weekend as well for Dave. This was his first time in this boat and he had a really good time and did a great job in with. The McKee racing family are really awesome people and the whole family is completely involved. I think they have about a dozen boats or so in total. Johns been drag racing for about 25 yrs. I'm told and he also runs an enduro boat. His 3 boys Jerrod, Jake and James (and John too) all race in the A & C hydro classes and have championships their respective classes. John is a great dad and leader in his family and it's clearly evidenced when you meet all his kids and wife too. (they also have a daughter who worx hard to support the guys with their mom.) I bet John would appreciate a copy of this photo. Byt the end of this heat his engine layed over a bit with fouled plugs. Turns out somebody fueled it with C-hydro fuel mix (small outboard fuel) and wasted the plugs. He couldn't source any locally so they hit me up for my spare set and I was glad to be able to help them out. (mine were perfect all weekend so fortunately I didn't need the spare's.) I really appreciated when John and his family stopped by our pit after the awards ceremony and congratulated me on our successful weekend and my driving. After my crash last Nov. I was pretty shook up, freezing cold and had rather sore fr.&bk. ribs and was pretty much useless for a couple hours. My 2 crew members for that race, my cousin Chris and my step son Nick were both a little rattled too and a bit out of sorts initially. John came over to check on me and I think sensed our rattled state and he quickly gathered his sons Jerrod and Jake and they all came over and took the lead to help get the eng., fuel sys. etc. flushed of water and get us back on track. John is the real deal class act and a true quality leader. Thanks again to John and his boys. There's a lot of amazing and really great people in these racing families.

All those oil derricks have been replaced with multi million dollar homes and many owners are not race boat friendly.
Yea for sure, still signs of the old oil days on the east side of PCH.

This pic is another great one Wheeler, it looks so calm and easy. However, just a second or so before this was anything but. This was the last turn for the win of this classic endurance heat. I was chasing down Joe Dillworth in his comp jet boat pictured here and was reeling him in as I can drive much deeper into the corner than the jets can at speed. I drove it in deeeep to attempt to catch him (Like I did when I crashed in Nov.) start to enter the turn and see the water is big with holes and real mixed up, oh fuuuuuuck my brain screams. I slammed the breaks (cav. pedal) dumped the throttle momentarily to push the air out from under the boat, then get back on it about half way, turn in and the boat pushes out a touch on a bump. As I approach the middle of the turn I can't see Joe, just mixed up water then a wall of white water 10ish feet tall and I have nowhere to go but straight thru it. I punch through it, at this same moment my brain is panicing, fuck! it's gunna stall (eng.) sucking in water but it keeps going. (stalling typically leads to barrel rolling due to the momentum, outward g force and instant hull deceleration of large wetted surface) Then Joe appears in front of me and slightly left (thank you god for that bit of separation). He's backward as seen and moving backward too. ( see how the bow is down and tail is up) Joe's a smart racer and is in there quickly wacking the throttle trying to get the boat to hook up and stop moving backward into my path. I veer right to clear him, pick up the throttle some and move around him. As soon as I realize I've cleared him I mat the loud pedal to run to the checkered flag. I quickly look lt. & rt. to see if I have any challengers. As soon as I realize I'm good I back off the loud pedal a bit to ensure I don't break out and f-myself out of a win, take the ckr flag and let out a big ol sigh of relief. ho ree chit.....Thank god that's over. Straight to the trailer I go, no celebratory lap...........get me outa this thing....I'm f'n duuuuunn. lol
Out of the water and on the road back to the pits to service the boat and prep it for the SE final and get me some rest, I'm worked and fatigued.

SE running with Comp Jets, better have your head on a swivel!
chu got that right tim. lol
Those jet boat boys are quick out of the hole. It was a blast racing with the Dillworth family. They all race clean, professionally and respectfully. I had a blast learning from them. They were pitted next to us so we got a little acquainted this weekend. They are another awesome family of racers out of Idaho mostly and a few from Utah.
I look forward to racing with them on their home course in Burley Idaho in June. That's such a great event and venue.
They'd pull me pretty good down the straights but I'd reel them in the turns pretty good. Really taught me to push deeper into the turns. The upriver turn, turning into the current, typically runs pretty good/ smooth if/when I enter it deep and tight on the turn buoy. The down river turn (where most of the crashes occur) is a good bit different. Going in is ok if ya miss the holes or get the boat locked down real good but when ya get to the middle of turn the current starts to carry the boat, the boat pushes out and I really have to wrestle the wheel around up into the current. If/when I hit wakes exiting the turn the boat typically lifts/hopps/skips outward and I have to lift momentarily to resettle it to get it to rotate and then hammer down to exit into the chute. Too often I try to rush it and start to let up on the plates to accelerate off and the boat will push out there as well, then I have to re-plate it and sometimes lift some until it gets right then hammer and go and I lose precious ground.
As you well know, we only have these limited race moments to "practice" these scenarios, turns etc. On asphalt tracks you can work through a bumpy turn as many times as you can afford.

These weekends are always series or string of interesting experiences, challenges and opportunities to learn and grow. I left last Tues. to head out to my house in big river to do some work on it, play golf on thursday and get into the pits as early as possible for a good pit spot. I finally get loaded up, it's raining pretty good and about 11am. I hop in my duuurtymax, the trash truck is in front of my so I wait. I fire it up, glance down at the dash gauges and the DIC says oil pressure low. I look at the gauge and yup...nuttin....
I yell......noooooooooo...... you f'n bastard. I flip the dash off and my heart sinks. haha The truck sounds fine and normal. the previous week my gauge read like 10 lbs going down the freeway one night for a bit while I was talking to my wife. The truck ran/sounded normal so I continued down the freeway to my destination and after stopping for dinner for a few the oil pressure resumed normal readings so I figured it was just the dash cluster, stepper motor etc. this is the 3rd dash cluster, It's had a hicup or 2.
The trash truck leaves and so do I, fuuuuuk it. It aint stoppin me from gettin to this race. I get down the freeway and decide I may be settin myself up for a much bigger and more expensive disappointment like a tow bill from the middle of nowhere/desert or worse and the major loss of time...I aint gots no time for sitin the desert waitin on a damn tow truck etc. haha Enterprise truck rentals is in Ontario over by the auto dealerships off Jurupa and the 15fwy. I swing on in there and see about 5 truck sittin there, cool. I go inside and ask what's available? I need to rent a truck. I esplain to them I rented a 2021 Dodge there last June to go to the Burley Idaho Race (blew a steering pump hose the day before leaving and I less than zero time, energy or desire to attempt a repair) and asked if they had the info to duplicate? lets make this as quick and painless as possible. they pull it and yup here you go. What truck would you like? we have a ford, a couple dodges a duramax right here all lined up and ready to go. Not wanting to waist any precious time I ask for the dodge because I know it worked fantastic last time I aint into trying to figure anything else out right now. I just want to transfer my enclosed trailer, my chit in the cab some tools from the bed box and gtfo here. The guy hands me the ipad thingy to sign the contract and says oh ya, no smoking and no animals. Okie dokie, my 95 pitbull's in the back seat of my truck. again, fukit we're a goin. It's now dumping rain. My truck is pulled off to the side of their building out of view of the office building. I drop the encl. there, pull my truck over into the neighboring parking lot. I pull the rental up next to it and start transfering shit from my truck. I'm getting soaked. I put down blankets and towels in the back seat floor area, leash up meatball so he doesn't decide to wander to pee or something and expose us and get him in the truck. I slam my sway-away hitch in, back up to the trailer and see that the hitch is way higher than my truck. F' me! F' it, jack this this trailer up, hook up, check the lights and go, we'll see how it tow's and deal accordingly. I throw the sway bars in the bed, put my compressor in there tie down and roll. I'm completely soaked and cold now......f'n awesome. I lost a little over an hour in total. I get to the 15 fwy and it's backed up. Cool, I can breath for a moment and try to figure shit out if I have issues. Alls well so far. I get on the 10 fwy E. and it's rolling out. Great, lets see what we have to deal with here. Are we going to get away with this or do we have more shit to work out?
