Lake Castaic is requiring your California Boaters Card for entry.....
The Darwin guy only needed 4 more years.I guess they figure if you can make it to 46+ you can’t be too much of a fuck up.
I’m with you. Feel much safer since Ca has taken this on. I hear it’s very informative and that most people learn “stuff”. Haven’t really heard what but it’s good.I feel safer already.
They are over 45 so don't have a boaters card yet.So can anyone explain to me why at this point there are still people on the lake going the wrong direction around?
Yes ocean as well they checked us in mission bay San Diego.I wonder if this applies to out of state residents?
Is this required for the ocean as well?

That article says all boaters are required in California and that is not true. I don't know if any other states are like California or if any require everyone including renters to have oneEveryone acting like it’s just California.
But item #1 says renters don’t need a card - that totally defeats the purpose of this “safety” regulation. Try to rent a car without a drivers license.
Gee, I wonder what lobby group got renters exclusion in there...But item #1 says renters don’t need a card - that totally defeats the purpose of this “safety” regulation. Try to rent a car without a drivers license.
Have to get a replacementI legitimately lost mine. Can they just look you up? Or do I need to get a replacement?
@hallett21Have to get a replacement
Just looked it up. $5. Oh well lolI'm pretty sure it's just a form and they send you one, check your emails for your temporary and see if there is a link for if it doesn't show up or if you lost it
Only 9%, wonder how that number extrapolates when factoring what percentage of boats on the water are rentals.
Don’t feel bad. Because of this thread I looked for mine and couldn’t find it. I found my ID through my old emails so I just paid the $5 replacement fee as well.Just looked it up. $5. Oh well lol
Take a picture of your next one to have in your phoneI legitimately lost mine. Can they just look you up? Or do I need to get a replacement?
I’m over 45 and I needed to get it last year. I believe this is the last year of an age group and then 2025 is everyone must have it.They are over 45 so don't have a boaters card yet.
You can do everything online no need for anything to get mailed out other than your card.OK, so I'm looking thru the "classes" and the state has a free one, the rest are about $35.
You email the state for an answer sheet they mail you ?
This is the response I got, talk about ass backwards:
I have received your email, and the requested materials will go out in today’s mail. You can find the study material and exam online at https://dbw.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=30826
If you apply for your boater card prior to completing your exam, please be sure to provide a copy of your application confirmation page with your ID# when returning your exam for grading.
Emailed answer forms will not be considered.

Post a link to the $5 place the the California state one is a pain in the assYou can do everything online no need for anything to get mailed out other than your card.
Apply for boater ID card choose a website to take test on I used boatus since they only asked for a donation I gave $5. They submit the results to the California website and your card shows up about a week later. You can print the temporary card before if you want no need to wait for actual card.
It asks for a donation but you don’t have to if you don’t want to. You study then take the quiz at the same time.Post a link to the $5 place the the California state one is a pain in the ass
