I've painted boats and a car with a similar LP product (AwlGrip ,https://www.awlgrip.com/north-america ), great stuff that holds up forever. Personal stuff has been mostly been done with a foam roller, shop stuff with a gun. Important to use one of the recommended primers to make sure the new paint doesn't lift the old.

I painted the trailer under my old 20' Schiada with Red Imron. That stuff was hard as hell once cured and looked good!

Imron was developed for the airline industry , the sales point was tough as nails with extremely high gloss retention. Because who wants to wax a 747 ? It is quite the paint product and I can remember a buddy had his immaculate 62 nova painted red imron back in 1980 and he was the king for stepping up to that price point way back then. Good stuff !

I painted a couple boats, trailer, and a go cart. Lays down like lacquer.
Still have the go kart. It’s been sitting outside for over 20 years and will still gloss when washed.
Can’t get itincommiefornia. F
In fact last boat I painted I ran out and went in Monday and they wouldn’t sell me the same thing I bought before the weekend.

… Imron used to be an acrylic urethane… not sure what it is these days ???…Where as Awl Grip used to be a true linear polyurethane… Awl Grip was much tougher stood up to the elements much better.👍

Polyester, like gel coat. I did part of one boat straight to the gel. No primer. That stuff was stuck!

Can you even purchase Imron any more?
Its a catalyzed, polyurethane paint.

Hell. . . you can't even get oil based industrial enamel from Sherwin Williams any more. Everything is now water based.

My paint guy told me a while ago. They have everything to mix it. Just can’t sell it except in certain applications. Used to be you could say you were painting a swingset or something like that and buy it.

I checked its acrylic as was said. Maybe the 1st gen was poly. That’s why I shot it straight on gel?🤔

My Top Gun was painted with Imron, and you could not hurt it. I had a friend bring me some from the factory in Miami so I could paint some accessories and no shop in California would spray it. I had to use a PPG product instead.

Sherwin Williams Jet-Glo paint was a similar urethane, and it does hold up extremely well. Not sure what airplanes get painted with these days (I think they've all gone to water based paints because of the toxicity concerns)

I painted some rail cars in the early 90's with Imron that are still in service today, incredible paint. They had a version called Mastic we used on the interiors that even after being burped for 24 hours that shit would rock your world if you breathed it in, fresh air supply at all times.
I used to say the nastier it is to breathe the better the product.

Yes! Its the best there is but the Imron of today, I think its Axalta, is not the old green and yellow label stuff from the 80's-90's Ive used. I used only single stage paints from Imron.. Im not sure if they do a base coat clear coat??? anyone? The paint job lasted 25 years until I got stupid and repainted it. The paint was in perfect shape and I just wanted to try something different.. big mistake. Im going back to the same paint job on the boat and using the latest airliner paint thats as good as Imron. I dont remember what it is.

Painted this in 1994 with Imron polyurethane enamel. 1873 Hondo V-drive
