This was for sale a couple years ago, I believe they were asking 890? Or 980?
Under a mil, and I believe it came with water rights.

Considering what you’re getting that seems fairly reasonable.

Now on the flip side if you’re building from scratch I can see 2 million easy.

What’s the deal with the dyed water? Is it just muddy brown otherwise? Would a gravel bottom and a few hundred fish clean up the water?

Lake Jody looks dyed at times but isn’t.
Has a clay liner, they relined it about 10-15 years ago.
And, the fishing is stellar👍

The dye is to inhibit weed growth from the sunlight that shines through the water and enables weed growth in these shallow lakes, if the lakes are spring fed, they are probably very clear w/o it and the lake would quickly turn into a spirea jungle that would overtake the lake. There are some fish like Asia carp that eat the weeds but dye is probably less expensive.

Hard to get enough grass carp in one to make a difference in weeds. Clear water is bad for weed growth

We have a lake out here in Colorado we lease with 9 other families. Just a little ski/camping deal. Its a cool place to escape to on weekends and all the members are good friends. It was a gravel pit that got mined and then filled up from springs underneath the lake. Its next to the river so thats the water source and it always stays w/in a foot or so in elevation all year round. In Newberry Springs, my nephew works for a guy that has one of those lakes, pretty cool deal. I would expect that you'd have a fairly large battle with the city/county to get it permitted and you don't own the water, if you expose it, you would have to pay someone to account for evaporation/loss which could be a lot of money. Also, insurance is expensive. Maybe cheaper to look into membership/property on one of the existing lakes.

Apologies for resurrecting such an old thread, for some reason I can’t send private messages.

@cofooter Sweet looking lake dude. Where is it located? Fellow barefooter here based in Denver.

Sweet. It’s always nice to meet a fellow footer. I don’t seem to have PM privileges. Can you initiate the conversation?

This one is man made. Spent years trying to get approval . In the mean time he made it a motocross track. Was a cool sand track. Rumor has it once the cable park is open he will reopen another track. We need it out here. They are dropping line flies. Need to go to Jersey or up state New York for sanctioned races. It blows

I wouldn't give up the river. But on memorial day weekend I would be stoked to have my own lake to go skiing on lol.
Just go to the delta on big weekends
Plenty of smooth water and nobody around for hours .
Just say’n

My wife’s father owned lake Delores. They also owned a home on a private lake in newberry springs. I don’t find anything appealing about owning all or a portion of a private lake.

You can build one, a little smaller, that doesn’t need a boat.
Supposedly, this is one of those cable deals for wake boarding. The rumor in the neighborhood is the original owner was the guy that started Monster energy drinks. He sold it and moved when Coca Cola bought them out.

I had a friend with family that owned property on one of those lakes, we went a couple of times but at the end of the day it really wasn't that cool. Yeah you can float around and maybe boat a little bit, but it's still Barstow at heart.

I was wondering what they would use to line something like that.

The canals in the UK are still operating and all lined with clay, some nearly 300 years old and still operating

My HS History teacher Dennis Bender is/was related to them.

Probably to Delores Buyers who founded it and ran it by or years until my father in law purchased it from them. 👍

Mr Bender was by far the best teacher at AVHS! I was his TA during my senior year, there were many lunch runs to Jack In The Box and Del Taco made during that period.

A close second was Mr Sudlow for Spanish, great teacher and a super cool guy.

There's a private lake on the way to Mammoth right outside Olancha. It was going to be a development too, not sure many homes got sold there if I remember right.
This one is now a RV park. It just opened. We drove thru (we live in Bishop) and it was not much to look at. There is another one in Hamil Valley 20 miles or so out Highway 6 from Bishop. I hear it was originally approved as a lake for a fish farm but the end game was selling lots around the lake as a private water ski lake. They have a big problem keeping the weeds down enough to be able to ski. I don't think it ever sold out and is now not much of a going concern.

This subdivision is just across the lake from our house. It's pretty much built out with nice homes.
