Sad way to go, being burned that bad is horrible
Might sound heartless but probably better than surviving.Sad way to go, being burned that bad is horrible
This happened shortly after we got home from daughter's graduation. About a quarter to a half mile out my back door. We saw some smoke, but not much really. Three deputies hauled ass up the road, and that got our attention...really rare. FD and medics were shortly behind.
The CanAm landed right side up, but had rolled over. The problem is, they can't really tell for sure yet if the fire caused the wreck, or the wreck caused the fire. Being a bit into the stuff, I'm of the thought the fire was caused by the rollover. They were performing CPR still when the helicopter landed.
The area the guy was in is state land. The development at the end of my road keeps the gate locked, and despises "outsiders". (They are 2ac lots, we call them yuppie cottages.) One of the guys I know said that one of the witnesses said the guy tore out the gate, "like it was stollen", and didn't think it was anyone in their homeowners association. As it turns out, the gentleman who passed away was a homeowner there.
One of my good friends was one of the first responders. As I told him, it was probably the best outcome of a horrible situation. The driver was alone. Things can change quick. Be careful out there.
My first though.Jeezus is there that much fuel on board ?

Good chance he had extra on board. A lot of guys out here carry those type that mount to the cage. It's a pretty popular run to go from here around the mountain to the town of Jerome. No gas stations there. The less prepared will strap a can in the back.My first though.
I thought this as well, but apparently there were one or two witnesses that said it did. The driver could have spun it maybe, and they just saw a dust cloud. This looks out in the sticks, but in actuality, there are homes maybe 100yds behind the camera. One of the things that was also mentioned was the fire hoses kind of wiped out the tire tracks in the dirt, so that I guess was kind of an issue.Cage looks very straight for a roll over.
They hold about 8 gallons.

I'm wondering if the factory tanks/cells have a bladder in them. If not they should. It seems like a real fuel cell would be a prudent modification, especially for those that drive aggressively.
Three or four gallons of gas from a ruptured fuel tank will make a freekin' huge and long lasting fire. Having additional plastic cans strapped on the vehicle increases the risk.
Since I don't know shit about SXS, it may not be possible to run a fuel cell due to space constraints and other issues. But burns are a horrible thing.
RIP to the deceased.
