A little back ground on my boat, 2004 Powerquest 320SC, twin 496's, Bravo 3's. 1300 hours

At the end of last season I noticed that it would take a couple of seconds to go into reverse on both outdrives. Did a little interweb sleuthing and it sounds to me that the cone clutch's are needing to be replaced. I talked to my local boat repair place hear on Lake St. Clair, Michigan who for the last 8 years has taken care of my boats. For an outdrive service and cone clutch replacement they are wanting $2500.00 a side to service them. This boat repair place is THE place on the lake and they take care of all the big dollar boats around. like I said they have been taking care of my boats for the last 8 years and I've never had an issue with any of there work in the past. But this just seems a little on the pricey side. does anyone have any input as to if this is normal pricing for this kind of service. Thanks guys.

Welcome to the Biden/wHitler economy. Seems fair enough considering there is going to be add ons for sure.

Plus being the size of your boat, are you at the mercy of that service shop to help retrieve the boat and use a trailer of sorts of theirs in order to do service work of this magnitude? Or is there other options for you to get the boat elsewhere should you decide to try it yourself, etc.?

The shop I went to for one outdrive complete rebuild and seal wanted like 1700 bucks and that was for an alpha one drive with me trailering the boat to them.

It's a bravo 3, so its not a small drive, nor as simple of a job as say an alpha one. Between working on a boat that size, and all I don't think they are out of line in the current climate of costs.... I know parts have continued to go up year after year... I can see it in my invoices from Barrett. Labor has been consistent..its the parts that keep ticking up.
