Oh man, lot's of frog gigging in the south in my youth. Had many of big legs and very tasty when done right.

Have you been able to get a pic? there are tree frogs the size of a quarter that are just as loud. In that area I'm gonna bet its tree frogs.. bull frogs dont stray far from the water.. we have bullfrogs at the river bigger then my hand but very rare, I have tree frogs at my house(the size of a quarter) that are more obnoxious then the bull frogs..

Knew it was a bullfrog but didn’t want to receive the wrath from RDP. When we camp at our local lake it’s dam hard to sleep they’re so loud. And there’s many elk, moose, bear that would be hard to put down with a 45.

We get the wild life just about every day. Deer, foxes, bob cats( a mom just had some, so kitten have been seen running around). Armadillos, coons, snakes and we have 2 owls that hang out. Think they are mom and baby. Mom is fucking huge. I think wife has a pic.

They had frog legs in the Safeway in Parker last time I was there!!! I was like, who the hell eats those things??? They sure don't have em in the stores around SoCal!!!

Spotlighting bullfrogs from a rowboat on my families pond is a childhood memory....best was when we got my aunts dog Lady trained to walk belly deep along the shore and catch them mid air as they jumped into the water....I was never a fan of eating the frog legs, but the family and neighbors loved it...

I sure hope his loads are HOT and never aim for the head on a bear with a hand gun. It will just glance and piss him off depending on type! A bears head is shaped in a way that is not friendly with a hand gun unless its between the jaw and temple. If its head on well.. and to be honest if it's a black or brown bear, they will be just as scared of you as you of them if not more. It will turn and run the other way.

No adrenaline in your system and everyone thinks they know what they’d do lol. Not a bear expert but have had multiple encounters. One came running out of the darkness in Baulch park I think it was, almost knocked me down. Didn’t have time to be scared until it was all over. Most fun was sleeping in the back of truck in mammoth and being woke up by bear staring, sniffing about a foot from our face @LazyLavey .
Friend of my brother who disappears into Idaho Montana Wyoming for weeks at a time was charged by a grizzly. Emptied a 1911 on it and it dropped at his feet. Any of you city boys think you have that kind of composure? Lol. I don’t think I could…

I have only went bear hunting in Alaska once. Never thought about eating one. I just wanted the head mount and skin to mount on my wall. After a week in the bush we gave up. It was a great experience crossing lake Tustamena in a boat.

Not much fat. Can be tough. Marinading makes for good steaks. I personally like ground meat mixed with beef for burgers. Sausage mixed with other meats is excellent.

Regardless it's a shitload of work. I get a bear tag every year, but only deal with problem bears when we have to. Waste not want not I guess...

We get visits from the Black Bears/ Trash Bears weekly Spring through December. They are fairly harmless.

I brought a 45 as my side arm and our guide my dad's good friend from college laughed. He told me leave it on the boat it will get heavy carrying it after a few days. Heard more bear stories than I can recall. But a lot of grizzlies get hit by vehicles where he lives chasing moose. Our trip actually got postponed a week cause his wife hit a moose and totaled his F250. While we were hunting She hit another and totaled his brand new 1 week old F350. He told us they regularly have to shoot the bears that have been hit. Shoot 1 in the forehead with a 45 and it doesn't penetrate. Have to hit it with a rifle in the head.

One of the stories I recall was him and 2 friends deep in bush not far from where we were. Tracking a bear they split up to try and head it off. His friend got eaten by 2 young grizzlies. They came up on them eating him.

Another was his cabin neighbor. A hungry black bear would not leave them alone. They only had a 22. The husband made a run to the boat to get help. She staid on the roof. He returned to her half eaten body and the clip of the 22 empty. They kept shooting it but the 22 didn't deter it.

The chances of having to shoot a black bear for self defense are slim but never zero. A handgun of any caliber is a Hail Mary, but a .45 has much better odds.

Many years ago someone I used to know was living in a travel trailer while building his house. Had gone fishing and had a few salmon he had cleaned. Got lazy and probably drunk and left the remains outside. A large male black bear decided he liked it and started to open the trailer like a can of sardines. He put 5 .357 rounds into it's face. Missed one, but that's how close he was. Bear ran off still alive. He tracked it down and put it out its misery the next morning...
