Now that the pool is done I am on to landscaping and a stereo system for the backyard.

What is the consensus on speakers and stereo system? I dont have anything in the house currently, I play music off the tv channels available and run it off the soundbar.

Do I want to get a house system and tie into the backyard?

First thought was the “rock speakers” on the hillside and a few in the patio cover.

Any input would be great!

My daughter's boyfriend just bought her a little JBL Bluetooth deal. It's Perfect for around the pool! Tie it to Spotify on your phone and call good. Water resistant. It gets the job done nicely.

Call Jerry at Barron Boats and ask him what his are. He has satellite radio pumping into the shop area that sounded pretty good, even over the compressor running and the next door guy cutting metal and his barky assed dog.
I wish I woulda looked to see what they were.

We have one of those little JBL Speakers and it cranks!! I hang it off a hook on my patio cover and you can hear it all the way on the street over.

I would do that or just install a sound bar.

We had indoor surround sound in our last house and I swear the sound bar we have now inside our new house is louder.

The sound bar I have in the house sucks. It’s a Visio deal, not sure what model but it came with a wireless sub and a pair of small speakers. It sounded nice in the store but not so much at the house once it was installed.

I have a JBL portable speaker, I like it so much I keep it in the motor home.
I’d like something a little more permanent for bbqs and parties.

Yuuup... too pricey more my taste. Because u can build some good sound and be just as pleased and spend way less imo. Depends on your set up too. I just run some Yamaha speakers in my patio. But I also have the option to bump louder sounds from my mancave.....either or work. Always thought of getting some satellite speakers mounted around the pool perimeter....but was never an absolute necessity.

Edit. Found his text.

Outdoor Speaker Depot. Model AP851. Couple neighbors have them hooked up. Loud and crisp.

Soundbars are ok for small rooms imo.....but if u like big sound....u need to step up to a good sub. I've been happy with my 12" Klipsch. Even if we are in the backyard....my set up is near the rear slider.....and I can turn on my patio speakers and my system in the house. The bass from the sub compliments the speakers outside well.

I have a 2 zone receiver and have 2 outdoor speakers under my patio on one zone, and have wall mounted speakers in my living room in the other zone.

I have Polk Atrium6 speakers outside. They will sound better than any portable speaker, and better than all but the really good soundbars.

I can play music out of either zone or both at the same time.
The receiver is also hooked to the TV so I can play those music channels or whatever is on TV. It also does Airplay, USB, Bluetooth, Pandora, Media Server, etc.etc. It is a simple setup that has worked well.

You really wanna rock then you need. 70v System & good solid in ground subwoofer. It all depends on budget though. How much you want to spend? 1k, 2k, 10k?

I think this is the setup i'd run too. the 2nd zone is the key here.

I have a 2 zone at my Havasu house and get pandora or tv music and can watch movies inside at the same time, I also have a volume adjuster on the patio it’s a Yamaha receiver the speakers are a recessed 8” cut into the drywall ceiling. It’s plenty loud. I just need to add a tv

In Escondido we bought a bose home system it was like $4,500 back in 2007, we still use it but it has stored music library that can be controlled by a LCD screened remote, you can select songs, artists or just genre, what ever is in your library, also run the patio tv thru it for games / movies we have 2 wall mount speakers and 2 green landscaper type speakers... this system is awesome !!! but is old school and doesn’t work as designed with pandora, yes you can adapt it but then the remote would work....

It all depends on what you want

I would pick a system / brand and slowly expand it, nothing like watching tv ball game movie from the pool with a cold drink. At Christmas time I turn up the Christmas tunes and hang my lights it really adds to the experience

15" Cerwin Vegas on your roof and a silver faced pioneer 70s reciever. Let your neighbors enjoy the music too!
A nice refurbished Marantz would be a nice receiver too! Hook it to some Vegas and a turntable! Shit sounds so amazing.

At the Havi house, we have my old Yamaha 3 zone that runs surround in the front room and the other two zones for the patio and bbq speakers. It's controllable by the iPhone which is nice now that they are water proof. I can change inputs, adjust volume, skip tracks, etc. I use a small waterproof Bluetooth speaker from Costco when we are in the hot tub or pool at night. It sounds great and you can keep it close by so it's not too loud and won't annoy the neighbors.

At my house, we have a newer Yamaha 3 zone that is controlled by the iPhone as well. I usually run Pandora, which is built into the receiver, and have it set up so the surround plays "7 channel stereo" and the other two zones run Klipsch in wall speakers in the front room, and in ground speakers in to corner planters in the backyard. They are buried in the soil and sound great being in the far back corners of the yard. I also ran conduit to a patio area for spaekers to hang off the back wall of the house, but the two in the corner sound so good I doubt I will ever hook those up.

Depends on price. What’s your budget?

If you’ve got a few bucks to spend you want to go with some of our landscape speakers and a sub.

4 speakers and a 10” burial sub is going to outperform (by far) anything else posted here.

Check out the Yamaha RS-202BL. It's like $149 0n Amazon. It has bluetooth, AM/FM and a bunch of inputs for other stuff. A and B speakers. Looks like an old school receiver. I have one in both my garages, sounds awesome and as loud as you need.

Shoot me a PM

This.

1. Speakers under the porch are a nightmare at parties because it’s too loud for people to talk when the music is turned up for everyone at the pool.

2. Speakers firing back toward your house are a little less annoying to your neighbors. (I like loud music)

3. Sonos doesn’t even have outdoor speakers.

I second episode. That’s what I would recommend. 1000watt crown amp pushing 6-8 8” landscape speakers & 2 12” buried subs will give you a backyard worth calling a backyard!!!!

Funny, I don't actually like the 8" :)

I use the 4" almost exclusively, they are so much less obtrusive and sound fantastic with the subs.

Retail on the amp and 4 4" speakers is $2k. Sub is another $1k. I would do a HEOS link for a source. Price on that is $350.

With the RDP discount you could get the whole package for just over $2k

I mostly sell the 4” because of size and cost but when possible I always recommend the 8s. So much more mid bass in my opinion. The 4” sound unbelievable for their size though. I’m really excited to start selling their new 8ohm landscape system for the budget installs!

Yeah when we A/B tested them I didn't like the sound of them at all, but maybe they changed something, we tested them right when they were releasing the 8s.

I bought a used Yamaha receiver with the 2 zone speaker option and then a set of 4 Yamaha bookshelf speakers and a powered sub. All for $60. I have 2 speaker in the garage on one zone and 2 outside on the 2md. Sounds great! Way louder than I need. It doesn't have Bluetooth but I have it tied into my TV that has all the apps as well as going to get a long range Bluetooth reciever to plug into one of the inputs.

Not trying to disrespect anyones input here but I am curious, why would you need 1000 watts in, assuming, maybe suburbia, when could you use it without pissing off the whole block?

It’s not always about having the loudest system. It’s about having the cleanest at lower volumes as well. Most people have 2 speakers on their patio. When people are swimming in the pool and wNt to hear tunes you have to crank it up so the people in the pool can here it. That makes it hard to talk if your sitting under the patio. The more speakers you have the lower volume it has to be in order to hear the music. Having 6 speakers strategically placed around your backyard facing the listening area won’t piss off your neighbors as much as 2 speakers blasting under the patio.

You also want to give each speaker enough power for the times you do want to crank it up as well.

Anytime you add more than 2 speakers your best bet is to hire a professional that can design, sell & Install a System for you that will fit in your budget.

Try this - it'll cost you about $250...go to Costco. Buy 2 of their ION Pathfinder bluetooth speakers. That's it.

You can put them outside where you want them. You can put one inside and one outside and enjoy the tunes. Bonus: You can take them anywhere you want because they're portable and they're water resistant. And they sound great for the $$$

Give it a try - you can always take them back.

We have a pair of these on the outside pillars of our patio, inside would be too loud. I’ve considering taking them to the other side of the yard to spare the neighbors when volume goes up but no one has ever complained.

If you're gonna go that route, I'd suggest these instead. Waterproof, floats, crazy loud and clear, a 100 hour battery life, and you can pair 2 together for stereo sound from one source. They also make smaller ones (my wife has their small one that kicks ass for it's size) that can also be paired with them.
