As I'm nearing retirement (29 days!!!!)

Want to possibly go on some cruises.

WITH NO FUCKING CHILDREN!!!!!!

This is our go to plan to cruise without kids. We there we 3 I think on the last cruise.

1) Don't cruise when kids are out of school.
2) Cruise for more than 7 days. That is usually the most times a kid will miss school.
3) No water slides.

So, my wife owns a toy store here in Flagstaff, she has definitely noticed in the last couple years, and especially this past year how disrespectful kids are. The parents seem like they have given up on traditional parenting, teaching right and wrong, respecting other people and their property. I walked through the store yesterday afternoon and found several areas that kids left toys on the floor, tore labels off and left them on the floor, drives me nuts! There were two young boys maybe 6 years old running around like crazy kids in a pizza place. The moms were sitting in our paint your own pottery area absolutely oblivious to the boys, so my wife had to say something to them and you can tell they were pissed at her for it. We’ve had the store here for almost 30 years and seems like since “Covid times” when this town grew from the California exodus and second home people from down south the entire customer base has changed. Not to mention the Lib style of gentle parenting that is the current trend. My boys were always aware of the belt and never acted like that anywhere. My wife has stories pretty much every day about this type of stuff.

This thread is pretty interesting...Support for California, Kids need karate or whatever, it's the teachers fault, on and on. I'm thinking that half the people reading this spank their kids and the kids show respect. The other half, have shit head kids because the parents think their little jerks are God's gift to the world.

I can tell you one thing....Fortnite makes kids pricks.

Now comes the support from the gamer crowd....

Honestly I think its all depends on the kid and parents, not the activity they are involved in.....my son has a group of kids that he plays games with (fortnite being one of them), he has another group of friends that he rides motocross and mountainbikes with....both completely different groups...the gamer kids are the most well behaved and respectful kids I have seen, and I love when my son hangs out with them....the motocross/mountainbike kids, those ones are a-holes and although I love my son out riding I kinda hate when he hangs out with them....

My son rides motocross too. He mostly only plays with the kids he rides with. Maybe that is why my experiences have been horrid with Fortnite. Oddly enough, the kids that are good at riding are usually pretty decent kids. The kids that suck at riding are the ones that are shit heads. One kid goes against this hypothesis.

Thats completely opposite from what I have seen....the main dipshit kid in the group is the one that is homeschooled, and travels around the country to race, has a few Loretta Lynn titles under his belt...that is the only kid I have ever told my son that he cant hang out with on his own...again though, it goes to the parents, we have hung out with this kids parents and they talk about the dipshit things the kid does and think its funny....

Is this supposed to be sarcasm? Everyone knows how much I hate CA and even I know most of this isn't true.

I wish it wasn’t true.

He lives in LA County, does he not?

Where are the moderates running the state, county, cities and schools in LA? They don’t exist. The 1 or 2 are out numbered by leftists.

CA state reps with the leftist supermajority and Newsom signed the laws to weaponize teachers against parents. These are people everyone around him voted for, even if he didn’t.

If CA residents don’t like it they should be mobilizing their family and friends to vote in every election. Maybe that will start to happen, as 2024 was a change from roughly 66/33 Dem to 60/40 Dem, and that is with a net migration loss.

At present more of them like these policies than dislike them.

I’m pretty sure I know that kid and had an issue with him about a few others last week.

Lemme guess...

Red Dragon?

That's the only place I know of that makes you pay for your next belt.

Both my kids did Kajukennbo. There was no Paying for anything, you had Earn it. Took my son two YEARS to advance past his white belt. He was proud as fuck when he earned that thing. Ended up two belts away from his black belt. Same with my daughter. I should have started them sooner, but trust me, you don't wanna fuck with either of them. I sure don't!

😜
Every kids martial arts place ive walked in to, seems to do it like this . . .

The Master / Teacher / Whatever walks over and announces "We feel little timmy is ready to test for his (insert colored belt here), would you like to sign him up to test ? Then they hand you a clipboard with the package / prices .
They also do this in front of little Timmy, so you pretty much have to agree or you look like an asshole if you say no.... 🤣

The good old days of sweeping the leg are gone Joe!

lol. I look at Martial Arts belts the same way I look at people with their contractor/realtor/fill in the blank career licenses.

It’s just a title at the end of the day. I have the upmost respect for those that are truly accomplished/capable at their craft.

There’s also no cure all to parenting. I’ve known coddled kids, adults with horrifying upbringings and everything in between. Damage (people growing into shitty adults) can happen in all sorts of ways. Beating little Johnny into submission can be just as damaging as telling him he is god’s gift to earth while he eats out of a silver spoon.

I do enjoy sitting back and reading the responses because I sure haven’t figured out all of the answers to life yet 😁😎

You're walking into the WRONG places.

The advice given to me was...

Show up for one of their kids classes, and watch. IF the kids are running around goofing off, keep looking. IF the kids are structured and standing at attention the whole time, you might have found the right place.

Just like everything else we do, you have to do lots of homework.

There are martial arts for competition, and there are martial arts for self defense.

Choose wisely.

Our kids never participated in a competition in their entire 6+ years of instruction.

Our kids never competed in a competition in their entire 6+ years of instruction.

Our Grandmaster required it for belt advancement. One in house, and one open competition.

Mainly so the kids would be used to fighting people they didn't know.

Big difference from sparing with the same people day in and day out.

You also had a verbal test, a written test, a patterns test and a sparing test, to achieve your next belt.

No additional charges were required.

I bet I can guess the kid and I'm not out west - :)

Were you at Mini O's last week?
No, I'm in SoCal and don't travel far for motocross. The kids we had issues with don't even race much and if they do it's the beginner classes.

This all sounds like a case of spoiled parents to me.

The offspring are a result of the everybody gets a trophy generation.

Oh Ok - @Badchoices03 had stated the kid had several LL titles under his belt.....
Different kid, but there is one that wins a lot of races, but has some mental issues. All in all, 99% of the kids are good kids, smart, mannered, caring and just want to be kids and socialize with others. Just a few and nuts.

I have a 4 year old grand daughter thats a spoiled brat. She loves to run around screaming and this last visit told me she was a bug so I got a squirt bottle full of water and waited. When she came up screaming at me I squirted her in the forehead with water and told her it was bug spray. She ran off to Grandma crying that I sprayed her with bug spray. I got a little peace and quiet for awhile. LOL

I won't argue any of that - have met some the best people in my life in the MX world.

The only way to separate the legit kid programs from the "buy a belt" programs, is to enter them in the All Valley Karate Championship.
The winner receives the prestigious All Valley Under-18 Golden Trophy. Parent's have their kids prepare rigerously for this, both in and out of the Dojo.
Competion is fierce, and competitors are known to fight dirty.
Only those who persevere thru injury will win.

I have zero knowledge about Karate.

From what I just read about it...

What you just said, seem very opposed, to the origins of the sport.

Encinitas round table.

I grew up there. Spent every jr high dance night at that location. Grew up skating that parking lot.
Grew up all over encintas.

We moved last year. I couldn't take it. The parents are the root of the problem. Which is now what encinitas has become.
One of the most expensive cities in America and I couldn't do it any longer.

Unfortunately Dave it is normal. The entitled white people in that area have ruined what was a great place.
I moved 40 minutes east and life is back to normal.
I've been back once in the last year.
If you want a pizza go to alamfi at lake san marcos. Sit at the bar either upstairs or down.
Its actually Amalfi! My buddy owns the hotel, restaurant and golf course. He appreciates your recommendation. 😎
