Even ordering a vehicle is a weird experience. I’m in the market for a new Yukon XL or a Suburban. Forget trying to get one in stock. So I head to one Chevy dealer and they say 5k non refundable deposit which I am ok with and they said 3-6 months which I am also ok with. Honesty has always gotten my business. I go to a Chevy/GMC dealer and they said they don’t have any allocations and if you want to order it’s only the very top of the line. Plus the Suburban they have on the lot has a 10K markup. Also the sales manager said if I’m going to order one of my allocations it’s gonna be a loaded one. So what’s the deal with allocations on ordering? Also why is one other dealer willing to take my deposit and order the way I like? Also forget buying out of town they said lol “ we only want to deal with locals for repeat business” Times have really changed I guess.

We ordered a RST Suburban in April and our build date was actually a couple of days ago. Now we have a 22 instead of a 21 (should be delivered in two weeks). The lack of chips was the reason for the delay, and the higher end packages actually made the wait longer. We could have gotten a lower end model because they use less chips. The towing package and luxury package uses more chips, but that's what we wanted.

When we first started shopping the dealers were playing games. We have AAA, Costco and USAA. None of the dealers would even return calls about pricing through the programs the three offer. My wife actually called the head of the local Costco vehicle sales program and they drove to the dealership that has the contract with them. We ended up getting the vehicle at invoice which was at least 10K less than we were being told we could buy for.

I would shop around especially if you are members of a place that can get you discounts like we did. Dealers don't want to deal at all right now because of the elevated market. Good luck!

This is the worst time in 30 years to buy a vehicle.
Im sure you must be in a situation that keeps you from waiting till next year.
I “had”to buy a new car (insurance settlement) back in July … got bent over so badly.
Worst buying experience ever.
Such arrogance … and “ if you don’t like it … there’s the door”
The franchise dealership business model is such a dinosaur.
Studies show people would rather have a root canal than have to buy a car.
I can’t wait for the day they are all hurting and we are all buying cars online.

This is gonna be the new car buying experience. No more rebates or lots full of cars. Design and order at set price or buy one of the handful on the lot for msrp++

I think you are right. Actually the first dealer told me very similar. Kind of like what Tesla does. It’s not going to get any better IMO.

When you walk into a dealership to order a car, ask for the Fleet Manager. If he's not there, come back when he is. Don't talk to Anyone else!!

You're welcome. 😊

Contact Jason at Selman in orange, he’s on here and won’t dick you around. I ordered my Camaro from him, granted it was last year, but he didn’t even want money up front.

Try to buy a Rolex...... Supply and Demand.
There are some things this pandemic has changed forever and I believe the car buying process is one of them. By 2024 my guess is the Tesla/carmax/carvana model (search, select, and pick-up or deliver) will be the standard. Showrooms will be shopping for options only and the price is the price.

I have bought a ton of vehicles. Jason was hands down the best to work with.

I ordered a new Super Duty on 9/10 and it was built on 10/12. It's currently in transit, so I should have it about 8wks after my order date. I paid sticker price and was not required to put a deposit down.
What dealer?

I'm holding out for the GMC Sierra HD refresh, which will probably be next year or the year after anyways, so in the meantime I'll milk the Yukon XL Denali I got used for $20K private party.

Yeah I know GMC is announcing the GMC Sierra refresh on 10/21 but that's the half-ton only. Be interesting to see what they do. I'm betting a major interior re-design like the 2022 GMC Yukon Denali interiors, but minimal tweaks on the exterior.

2023 DMax will have 12% more torque and 12% more HP.
They’ll be more expensive but trade-in’s are worth way more too.

May be a push.

Don’t worry, the pendulum will swing back the other way soon enough . Just remember the dealers that treated you bad , and shop elsewhere this time .

This. Get a expedition. Ford makes a better suv right now. Go drive one.
When you order there is no down deposit. It does not go against the dealer allocation. The dealer loves these orders, if you dont buy it great. It goes into the inventory which is above the allocation.
They check to make sure your not a assclown ordering at numerous dealers, but thats it.
You will pay msrp plus right now. No way around it.

Another one of the many reasons I take my time and find used 1-2 years with low miles. Finance rates are almost the same too.

Shop the ones that treated you badly first. Spend lots of time with them. Then suddenly remember how you were treated and leave.

Was looking at upgrading the cadillac but they are now saying they aren't making a new CT5 in anything but the "V" model. Even then they will only have about 200 or so available

Don't know if it's accurate but I would like to hear from @DuttonDave

I ordered my 2022 Camaro 2SS 1LE from Jason on May 6. My TPW is 10/25. Been some delays with Camaro plant being shut down a couple weeks. Hoping to have it here in a few weeks. Been a long wait. My dad ordered his C8 in April from Jason and it was built on 8/4 and he took delivery on 8/13.

Weird times for sure. I go through cars and this is the first time i don't want something new the pricing is ridiculous.

Shopping online and i see a new jeep gladiator rubicon for 69k and think that's weird and seems a little high maybe its crazy loaded with the diesel. click on the window sticker and it's $7500 less. These are things you could buy near invoice a couple years back.

I'm holding...lol

I ordered a new F450 last week.

Found one online that we liked in Florida - Wife called and they told her they wouldn't sell to out of state customers unless it was going to be plated in the state of Florida.

Had a family member call a fleet manager sales friend (also out of state) and he placed an order for me at invoice pricing.

Now we wait.

Vista woodland hills
Vista in Woodland Hills is the MOST DISHONEST dealer in the area. I took my F250 diesel there for service regularly, then it threw a code for low fuel pressure. I had the extended Ford warranty, so I said no problem, fix it. They came back to me and said it had been fueled with Gas, and they wanted $9K to replace the complete fuel injection system, Long story short, I had it towed out of there sent a fuel sample out to a lab and it proved no gas, just clean diesel. They still refused to work on it so I took it to Galpin and they found that the fuel filter on the frame was loose by 2 1/2 turn and was letting air into the system. That filter had been installed by Vista at the last service.
The Vista service dept. is outright dishonest. I will never do business with them again.

The current new and used vehicle issue is insanity. I ordered my Acadia Denali from Jay right after Thanksgiving, 2019. Jay said he'd have it after right the first of the year (2020). He called a week later and said it may be in by Christmas. A week after that, he said it was on the way, and got it to my door on Dec 20th.

Meh. I just picked up a ‘19 Cadillac Escalade ESV 4WD completely loaded with 25K miles in prestine condition for $62K. New $100K. Patience. Beverly Hills Cadillac.

I really lucked out. My RT Durango was taken out by a dui. I have fleet dealer and he hooked me up with a Hellcat Durango 1500 over invoice! Most dealers are asking at least 10k over MSRP. I also ordered a 2022 Ram 3500 and it should be shipped on 10/30. I don’t have a price yet but I know he will take care of me. Dealer relationships are key right now. I could turn my Hellcat over tomorrow and make money.
