Been hearing/seeing/watching this shit since the 80's , "Prepper" is a new word for what concerned and wary people have been doing for years ;)
A worthwhile read about the history.

In my defense, in the 80's I was watching cartoons...and most of the 90's was more about girls.
Limited thought process until I had dependents, a mortgage...the "adulting" stuff. Then it got scary

Kinda interesting that they have a catchy label for everything these days. When did knowing how to hunt, farm, woodwork and handle a cut make you an extremist, prepped, survivalist or what ever label? Growing up we picked the fruit, drove the tractor planted for the season with my grandpa so we had life skills.
Then the land was sold and my Dad taught us the trades because that is what he knew and building homes, furniture and fencing it is what we did. I do not see any of this as extreme or odd it is just what you do to provide all of this for your family.
Do you stock the pantry when you can? Hell yes because hard times are always just around the corner I guess what I am too old to understand is when did being a provider become some kind of specialty skill set🤷🏼 I did enjoy reading the article because it made me think a bit about it all Thanks for sharing it.

Why don’t people just pull up their boots one at a time and work a new job, or learn a new skill and put that to work when there are ten million job openings? Because the government will let one collect welfare and play with toys.

Unfortunately it will eventually be the downfall of American exceptionalism.

Damnit....I hate this....I....I.....

Agree 😂

I don't know how it used to be, or should be really. I know it seems there are those gaining the system. Welfare and some of the other services should be bare minimum. It shouldn't ever be enough to be comfortable. It should be just enough to survive, but not enough for satellite TV and a flat-screen. It should only be given if you can prove you're actually trying to get away from it.

If you listen to the media, there are no good people with guns.

I've never claimed to be a good person. I know what I'd do to protect my wife and kids, and very little falls under the blanket of "nice", possibly not even "civilized".
As has been brought up before, "What are you prepared to do?"
That differs from person to person, home to home, but sadly, needs to be given thought.
Whatever it takes. If the show escalates, up your game. We never know what we are truly capable of until your cornered with limited options. Time will tell.

Think crime is bad now? Wait till people are actually broke AF and desperate. A metric F ton of people in the US have been brainwashed to think they have struggled because their $900 phone told them about it. I'm a believer it really won't take a food shortage or serious strife to see certain people grenade, just watch them when they don't have WiFi or a cell signal it's a dead giveaway to their batshit crazy ness. Neutered law enforcement, shit court's, those pesky budget cuts coming and so on. Today's crime rate will feel like Mayberry in comparison.
Society is only 3 missed meals away from total anarchy. Don’t count on the police coming to your rescue. They will be overwhelmed as we seen during the BLM Riots. They will essentially cut themselves off from civilization to protect themselves first. Ammo Up!!!

Down down 678. under 29.9**.**now at this minute.
Funny how Jimmy Carter 2.0 just a month ago was bragging about how good the stock markets were doing under his watch. Now as they are imploding all you hear is crickets!

Don’t be surprised if the Dow is below 20K by the November Midterms.

Never underestimate Joes ability to fuck things up……….Barack Obama

When Castro took Cuba over it was the same thing. He'd get on the media and broadcast how everything is good, over production of meat. poultry, all agriculture when in fact they were entering catastrophic famine, the Cuban peso was worthless.
Democrats are the empty paycheck party.

It's a tactic called Flipping the Narrative that all Socialist Regimes use to deceive the uneducated public. You probably seen it yesterday when he started blaming the Oil Companies for high gas prices after people stopped believing that Putin was responsible for the high prices. Everybody with 1/2 a brain knows prices were already skyrocketing back in January before the Ukraine War ever started.

He campaigned on a Zero Fossil Fuel Policy. He got what he asked for. Worse approval rating than Jimmy Carter. You know he's fucked when CNN throws him under the bus!!!

There may be a shitload of available jobs but believe me, they are looking for the perfect candidate only, not those that can do the work. I've been in this mess since last fall, everyone says they are hiring...not really.

HR is desperate for experienced workers. Make sure your resume shows experience.

It definitely does, 32 years and counting. Most tech positions are going via contract and temp agencies, few actual company HR's are directly involved from the start from my perspective.

You know what we can all look forward to ? The West's 30 year march to " Globalization " is over. For good.

Just like that.

Our kids and us are going to go through hell but our grandkids will have it better.

It absolutely drives me nuts. My step-dad is a retired union employee from GM. Has always towed the union line. At 75 he basically just watches tv all the time. A lot of the time it is news.

I will bring up something political and he will say no that isn't true. I show him the proof that it is true and he is surprised. Obama phones was one subject. Then I ask him if it bothers him that the "news" he watches all the time didn't tell him about the obama phones? He says yes, but I have been watching that news channel for 50 years and like it. 😵‍💫🤬

Let’s all pray yore right!!! I’m smelling the American people are finally realizing the Progressive Elite are trying to destroy this country in order to bring on The Great Global Reset. (aka: The Biggest Property Theft Of All Time)

Not discounting any of the rather dismal and gloomy predictions for our futures, although mine most likely being much sooner than the majority of yours, AKA, some days I'm glad I'm old(er).

In the 1950's attending elementary school, we were taught to 'Duck and Cover'. We were shown various "Nuclear" Civil Defense films, including the one below, for those fortunate enough to have TV sets, it was seen as a public service commercial.

By the 1960's, getting nuked was the topic du jour. In school D&C drills were common, frequent and by now backyard underground bomb shelters were all the rage.
You could purchase them, have them constructed, or use one of the many DIY instructional articles available. Popular Science and Popular Mechanics were two notables.
There was no lack of information on how to provision them, and how to best survive the pending "Nuclear"" holocaust.
No shortage either of "Must Have" products being sold with advertising campaigns tailored to instill guilt if you were not prepared and the inevitable horrors you and your family would suffer if you were ill prepared.

I had good friends who's parents were very active in the John Birch Society. Those "Friends" always showed up shilling the latest and greatest product, and new stories of impending doom.

Many of my close friends and other peers did in fact die in Vietnam, as those before us had died fighting prior wars. Many of us came home and died of other things, just as did the early preppers and fear monger salesmen.

My best friend in Georgia was prepared for most anything and everything, but died from Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, contracted due to his Agent Orange exposure while serving his country. He'd seen everything else coming, and was well prepared for it, except that.

Apparently against all odds, miraculously I'm still here and yet all those who were so adamant we were surely doomed, are not and none of them perished from those things they feared the most.

Perform your due diligence, and make educated choices, don't waste your young lives dwelling on the fear of what might be.
Enjoy today and everyday.
Trust me on this one single thing.
They'll come a time when your next birthday is no longer an annual celebration, but a fucking goal line in a game where field keeps getting longer while the game clock continues to run faster and faster.
Real fear is knowing and admitting that you no longer have any use for that extended warranty.

Doom and Gloom will never die, but you will, while you're waiting for it.

And that fellow boaters is all I'm going to say about that -- have a nice weekend

My company is hiring for a position that manages our distribution partners, I lined up a perfect candidate from my previous company, knows the industry, knows the products, knows the customers, has been doing it over 12 years...my company would not hire him because he doesn't have a college degree, instead they hired someone with no experience in the industry but has that piece of paper that says he's smart...
