So the flight going down I had my phone ready at 23 hours and 58 minutes and kept hitting "check in" until it went through, I got A37. Coming home we had a scheduled 2:40 flight and got to the airport early and decided to take a 12:40 flight. Since we changed flights at the last minute we got C47 & 48. Last minute my wife walks up to the counter and asks if we can buy a better number....boom A7 & A8.:D

oh yeah it’s always an option to upgrade at the gate IF they haven’t sold out the “business” class, which is really just the A line.

One thing nobody yet mentioned is SWA only flies one ship.... 737s.... and those pilots are extremely well versed in flying that one ship. It can matter under stressful conditions. I learned this years ago while stranded in Jackson Mississippi Intl airport. They shut operations down due to a small amount of very rare snow as the airport doesn't have snow machines, de icers etc.... I was speaking with the gal who controlled when to open up the airport and she said '"you watch, the minute I announce we're open the first planes out of the sky will be the Southwest fleet. Thats because they only fly one plane and they can do it with their eyes shut." she was correct. Good to know in a pinch.

That is a gross misunderstanding of how the flying and process actually operates. SWA 737 pilots are no better, nor worse than any other US commercial 737 pilots.
