I’m here, more of a lurker now that we moved away. Also got tired of social media, Facebook and Instagram, since we moved here, not sure what it is, we just live such a simpler life, it really works for us. Landscaping is done at the house and the dock is dialed in with music, tv, fridge, SeaDoo port etc., all ready for summer. Had the SeaDoo ECU tweeted so it runs 77 mph.

We bought 5 acres about 5 miles from our house. It had an old falling down home on it that we tore down and we are putting up a 40 by 50 barn or shop as they are called here. Room for our 5th wheel, my motorcycles, boats in the winter, etc. pouring concrete this week.

And I did the unthinkable and bought a dock crusher. Preowned Mastercraft to go along with the toon. The boat lift is set up to lift either boat and the mastercraft fits in the garage so we will put that in when we have guests who want to ski, surf, etc. Our neighborhood has its own launch ramp so its easy to drop it in for a weekend and side tie it to the dock.

My wife put her 32 years of nursing to work and joined the local volunteer fire department, she loves it and they were stoked to get someone with her resume.

That’s about it, life is good, I put in a few hours each day at the home office to keep a lid on things but otherwise retired.

Here’s a bunch of pics, we will be in havasu for the last week of April, I’m sure I’ll run into some folks while we are there.

Our house has full rv hook ups and we will also be putting in a couple RV pads at the shop, so if anyone is passing through Alabama let us know.

And thanks for asking :)

Congratulations! That looks amazing. Driving home from Atlanta a couple years ago we headed north out of Birmingham towards Memphis and thought that was the prettiest scenery we saw on the entire trip. Definitely an area we plan on exploring when possible.

Thank you everyone for the compliments. Returning to CA really freaks us out these days, you get used to pretty quick living in a town of 1200 people with two lane roads that each car waves to you as they pass the other way. Our community is 40 homes, all on the lake, and there are 11 of us that are full time, the rest are weekend people from Birmingham, Nashville, etc., very similar to Havasu, the balance of the 40 come down for the weekends and extended stays in the summers. The HOA doesnt allow VRBO's which is nice, so the only people here are the homeowners.

The lake is about 3' from full pool for the summer, its dropped about 15' in the summer. Our dock gangway has a 50' concrete runway that the dock can be rolled in and out on with basically boat trailer winches as it comes in and goes out with the seasons. The beach is a rutted up mess from the rains but one of our neighbors has a skid steer and will be able to fix it in a few weeks for the summer when the rains are done. If you ask just about anyone what state gets the most rain most would say Oregon and Washington, but actually Alabama gets the most rain in the continental US. The difference here is we get it all in about a 3 month winter period instead of year round, so its over and done with by April 1, but we get a shit ton for three weeks. The only state with more rain then us is Hawaii. The lawn looks like junk because its new Bermuda sod and its dormant in the winter, comes back green as soon as it heats up. I added Rye seed on top of it so we would have some green in the winter, that dies as soon as it gets warm. Bizarre stuff you learn when you live in the country.

Met alot of people, all of the full timers here get together for cocktails alot, and joined a church which pretty much is the whole town, so you get to know everyone pretty quick.

Anyway if anyone wants to visit, please ask, we have 5 bedrooms and RV parking. We are 2.5 hours south of Nashville so most friends that visit do the Nashville thing and then come down here for a few days as part of that trip.

Lastly, we have a lot of this thanks to Stacy and Team RDP. We sold our houses about every two years in Havasu and pretty much killed it on each one with the boom in Havasu and Covid craziness. All of that allowed us to write a check for a home for the first time in our lives and live pretty stress free.

Hydrohoist, 6500 pounds, low profile, only needs 4’ of water to work, in the winter our water level is dropped down but we can still use the lift year round.

Thanks. I have to do a lift that runs off of a battery that gets charged with a solar panel. I don't have 110 at my dock.

I drive past Cullman every spring and fall going between FL and TN.

This one would work off solar, lots of people go that route. We brought power down so we could run a fridge, ceiling fan, music, lights, etc., but for just the lift they have solar / battery systems.

$1200 a year property taxes that stop at age 65 on a low 7 figure house, we thought the $1200 was monthly when we were shopping. Also looked in Texas, property taxes there were outrageous, far more than CA.
They are making up for the lack of income tax.

Thats crazy though $1200 a year for that piece of paradise  figured it would be way more.

Nice my 8 acres property tax is a shade over 2k a year. Last year they lowered the property tax rate.

North, Houston, nearest big town is Cullman off the 65.
Everything is looking awesome Walt - I may have to swing up there this year. I am looking to start more work in the Birmingham area and North Alabama.

I'd be lying if every time Alabama gets brought up in good light like above that I don't immediately hit Zillow lookin for a place lol.

We are looking all over Northern Alabama and Georgia trying to get an idea of where we want to end up. We have a trip in October planned to check out a few spots to get a feel. If we were ready to pull the trigger today and had checked out the area to see if we liked it, we would be all over what I linked below. It was on the market last year and just popped back up…we have been checking in on it for months. Timing isn’t right for us, so I thought I would share.

Fridge built into a beautiful floating dock on a dry lake… at least it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows in Bama. 😂😂😂

Nice place, you can go a long way on the Tennessee river and the lakes that are part of it.

Last I read, enjoying the hell out of life, but totaled his ToyHauler when a low bridge got the best of him.
Oh shit, that sucks. I was facebook friends but once my FB got hacked we haven't re connected.

Thanks for the update.
