Spent many weekends jetskiing from the island directly across from Campland. Hard to believe that was almost 40 yrs ago.
I remember reading about this one and was so sad for the boy:I would stay out of the water at Campland. My dock neighbor In Havasu was there with their kids and one of the kids contracted a skin eating bacteria from the water. He had to stay at Rady's Childrens Hospital for an extended amount of time and lost some limbs. It was nasty!
I think you may be a little bit older than I am, but we sure did seem to hang out at all the same spots in Newport and San Diego. And no mention of the historical Pennant Bar.... no thread about Mission and Pacific Beach can go without it.

Im 64. I spent 1980 living in PB & MB for a year being a beach bum.... returned to work in Va for 10 years and then settled in OC in 1990 going back & forth east/ west coast for family business obligations.I think you may be a little bit older than I am, but we sure did seem to hang out at all the same spots in Newport and San Diego.
This is about as bad as could possibly be imagined for this little 3 yr old from Havasu. Per the article, it began with a fall from his bike. There seemed to be no mention of water contact.I remember reading about this one and was so sad for the boy:
3-year-old boy visiting San Diego contracts rare staph infection that caused double amputation
A boy scraped his knee and then had both legs amputated. Rady Children's Infectious Disease said this type of staph in kids hasn't been seen in years.www.cbs8.com

Thataboy.
They still have good fish tacos?
Thanks for posting this. I have not talked to them in a while because they moved their boat to the Riviera. That said, I am pretty sure they told me he had contact with the water at Campland. The initial injury was scrapped knees, but there was also water contact If i remember our conversations correctly. They were lucky to be in one of the best children's hospitals in country when this unfortunate incident happened.OK - before it's said this doesn't have a damn thing to do with boats. It does seem to verify contact with the water in Mission Bay was not the cause of this. It is about a Lake Havasu Family and their experience with their 3 yr old son, Beauden Baumkirchner. It is extremely informative and emotional, particularly for those of us with kids and grandkids. Amazing little guy, amazing parents, happening right here in LHC. I had no idea.
