Holy crap! How old are you?! 🤣

It's funny, I never noticed how the stars rotated in the sky as a kid...couldn't really see them like I can now. As I got older, became pretty good at navigation and even telling time, by the stars in the sky, their movement and the time of year. The concepts of a vast expanse, essentially locked in position, and something as massive as our rock spinning, slightly askew, in an oblong path around a star, is pretty mind bending.

Copernicus and then Galileo were probably thought of as madmen in their times as well🤣
Not THAT OLD, 🥴, although my now deceased best buddy used to regale me with stories of his numerous past lives, who knows eh ?? 🤔

Your last sentence has now emboldened the courage of our official RDP conspiracy advisor and quite possibly given him a bit of a stiffy. 😳 🤣

Galileo was considered a mad man that is why he was imprisoned in Rome. As least that is what they said on our tour last year while in Rome. 🤷‍♂️

I think that this was the building…..

I think it wasn't so much the madman aspect as it was not the popular opinion of the church. I'd read that in some non-fiction books, and also Dan Brown books 🤣

No doubt that area USED TO enjoy dark skies, as even did Rancho Penasquitos in the late 70's when I bought up there. It continued for several more years until we'd been discovered and the surrounding tomato fields replaced by tract homes. 😖
Escondido glows so brightly I think one must have to travel to Borrego to find those dark skies we used to enjoy right here at home.

Even in the mid-90's sitting on our deck at Havasu viewing the stars and planets became my nightly ritual as I continued to step up my telescope game.
But alas, as the burgeoning mass of humanity continued to increase, the intensity of the city lights continued to increase and those lovely stars and planets have faded into the white glow. I'm convinced that younger generations are either infatuated by pretty LED lights, or afraid of the dark, or both.
As each of my Havasu neighbors grew older and left, the first thing the younger new comers did was install obnoxious bright lighting to ward off the evil spirits apparently. 🤷‍♂️
Get a light polution filter . I use one here in tucson and it helps alot .

Your handlers have truly outdone themselves with this one, just when one thinks they surely can't raise their ignorance ranking, and

yet they do.

just amazing concept...

the solar system is blazing thru "SPACE"

and the stars remain intact...

hey don't hoard it.. please pass it along..

I need another hit.. to watch the stars move at a Billion MPH..

might be time for another Moon trip..

Mr Google
"""Our solar system is moving with an average velocity of 450,000 miles per hour (720,000 kilometers per hour). But even at this speed, it takes about 230 million years for the Sun to make one complete trip around the Milky Way.""

amazing all the stars maintain their same orientation.

Man that's UNBELIEVABLE amazing..

UNBELIEVABLE = literally

back into the rabbit hole

The first time I saw Saturn through a telescope at an Oceanside Photo and Telescope Star party, I thought it was fake too,
"No way..." 😆 After that, I was hooked. The desert Star parties out in Borrego Springs, were lit!!! Good times!!

Since ole rm went back down into his rabbit hole (Well bless his heart 🥴), do you happen to know what the f*ck point @rmarion is trying to make ? Because in one breath he's admitting everything's moving, then claims nothing has moved. 🤔

Anyway if he pops up in your yard, perhaps you could inquire what tool he's using to determine if stars thousands if not millions of light years away from us and equally distant from each other in all directions, has or hasn't moved relative to each other.
Considering all we're seeing is an equivalent quark-life moment in time, he must possess some very special equipment.

The world owes that man a huge gratitude. Through his continuing efforts, thousands around the world actually perceive themselves as being far smarter than they really are. 😁;)

All I know is, stopping on the way to the River at Rice in the middle of the night, to discard footwear on a now non-existent tree, the multitude of stars, and just how small that makes one feel, is a wonder to behold. Magical times. "It's the River."
I really should post up the awesome Shoe Tree poem a wonderful Mom wrote on a discarded piece of sheet metal, and left for us all, on a burned down beloved tree, in Rice, California. Back in the Day

It is amazing for sure.
Read the book below written by an Astrophysicist…Hugh Ross.
It’ll enlighten your view on the Universe and hopefully your soul as well.👍

Hey buddy, we only have ONE Star in our solar system --- I should clarify, in MY Solar System 😳 🤣

So just to humor you, let's play what if --- What if you were viewing a well known constellation, take the Big Dipper as an easy one.
The closest star is Merak at 79.7 light years --- that's 469 Trillion miles away. Now the most distant of the seven stars that comprise it is Dubhe, 123 Light years or 723 Trillion Miles.
Please briefly explain how you would measure a 3 dimensional change in orientation, for example, are you using Trigonometric Parallax ? If so I'm sure you realize that requires multiple observations made 6 months apart.
By what method are you determining distance of a star coming towards or away from you ?

The meme is right, only in the since that a Geocentric Earth is impossible, so is the belief that the constellations haven't changed.
Do you know what a Geocentric Earth represents ?
Do you have even a rudimentary understanding what is meant by Heliocentric Cosmotology ? That's interesting, since there's no such thing 🤣
Do you know that in 1543 Copernican Heiocentrism replaced the previous Geocentric model of Ptolemaic, while preserving much of the metaphysical implications.

These theories were developed prior to the first telescope in 1608, and prior to Galileo's in 1609.
One theory places the Earth at the center of the Universe, the other places the Sun at the center, do you know which one is which ?
Which one do you believe Mr Roofer ?
I vote NONE OF THE ABOVE, because the constellations have not only changed, you can track them yourself using one of several CELL PHONE APPS --- SkySafari 6, Stellerium Mobile, and Star Walk 2. In addition to real time constellation and star position mapping, they also allow you to dial in any year prior of in the future and you can see the change.
HOW, because since the 80's we and other countries have had satellites track stars and documenting their position change relative to earth. Tracking star movement is somewhat hindered by our upper atmospheric turbulence, which is the reason you see stars twinkling. In space, stars don't twinkle, and tracking can be accomplished far more precisely.

So here's the deal Mr Roofer, your inability to provide even a single answer to any questions on any post, ever, regardless of who asked, verifies your own assertion that you are in fact a dumb-ass roofer, and your only Super Power is hiding behind a vast number of rabbit hole memes. With this, I'm in agreement. 👍

Here's why I asked HOW you were coming to the conclusion that Stars weren't moving.
As observed from the Earth ----
The fastest moving star, Barnard’s Star in Ophiuchus, moves about 10″ (arc-seconds) per year. That’s about 8′ ( ' = Arc-Minute), or a little less than a third of the diameter of the moon in 50 years. The fastest moving bright star, Acturus in Bootes, will move about 2′ (arc-minute) in that time (.0333 or approx. 4/125 of a degree). It will take thousands for our night skies to look noticeably different to the casual observer.
Why so little observed movement ---- because of the Parallax Effect, when you understand that and what Arc-Seconds, Arc Minutes and Degrees represent, then you'll have a rudimentary understanding on why in our entire lifetimes starts 100's of millions of miles distant, appear to not move at all when observed from earth.

The Parallax Effect explains why the Sun that's 400 times larger than our moon, but is 400 times more distant, appears to us as being the same size.

OK, so in 50 years the fastest moving bright star, Acturus, will appear to us from earth as having move 4/125th of one degree. At arm's length, one degree is the width of your little roofing finger --- so put a mark where 4/125th would be, for the metric types that's about .82mm. a pencil line width is slightly larger.

Here's some more hand measurements for when you get your Start Chart and want to find stars.
If you're really like to learn something that you won't find in your rabbit hole or on memes ---- go here and get real

Hand and finger degrees.jpg

Since it's too small to be legible, the bottom chart shows that 1 Second of Arc (Arc-Second) is equal to viewing a penny at a distance of 2.5 miles.

Holy shit wad, wtf are we responding to each other about ???? 🤷‍♂️ I'm responding about the P-38 can opener, but then just realized this isn't THAT thread 🤭

Who-da-f*cks on First ?? 🤔 So if not can openers, WHAT wasn't only in the Army ?? 😬

C'mon Sparky!! More Folgers!
Oh the horror, I skipped reading one of rm's riveting contributions. Probably why I feel just a little smarter this morning. 🤣
I am however happy to report, your response was correct for two posts in two different threads --- now that's not an easy accomplishment. 👍👍

Robert De Niro, was arrested by the French vice squad at the Bristol Hotel in Paris 1998 in connection with an international prostitution ring.

Police officers questioned De Niro for several hours at his hotel just around the corner from the French Interior Ministry, before taking him to Judge N'Guyen's chambers at the Palais de Justice in the evening. He was released after nine hours.

According to fact checkers, Robert De Niro was never "linked" to a child sex trafficking ring.

Robert De Niro is one of the strongest voices in Hollywood against Donald Trump.

SoCal father of Marine killed in 2021 was arrested for protesting during State of the Union address

Steve Nikoui had a few words for President Biden on Thursday night, and they led police to escort him out of the U.S. Capitol.

Nikoui, the father of a U.S. Marine killed in 2021 when U.S. military forces withdrew from Afghanistan, was arrested for shouting two words, again and again, during Biden’s State of the Union address.

Thursday night, Steve Nikoui was in the House of Representatives’ visitor gallery as the guest of Rep. Brian Mast (R-Fla.). About an hour into Biden’s speech, Steve Nikoui interrupted Biden as the president said, “America is safer today than when I took office.”

“Abbey Gate,” the 51-year-old Norco resident shouted as he stood up from his seat.

A military base outside the Hamid Karzai International Airport, Abbey Gate was the scene of a frantic evacuation as U.S. forces pulled out of the Afghanistan. A suicide bomber carrying 20 pounds of explosives packed with ball bearings killed more than 170 Afghan civilians and 13 U.S. service members at the base.
U.S. Capitol Police warned Nikou to stop, but he refused. He was removed from the chambers and arrested for “crowding, obstructing, or incommoding,” according to a statement from the Capitol Police. “Disrupting the Congress and demonstrating in the Congressional Buildings is illegal,” the statement said.
Afterward, Mast gave this reaction in a social media post on X: “For the last three SOTU speeches, Joe Biden REFUSED to say the names of the 13 U.S. servicemembers who were killed by his disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal. I couldn’t support this effort more. Say their names!”

“Americans deserve to know the truth about how Biden killed 13 U.S. servicemembers with his disastrous withdrawal,” Mast wrote in another post. “They’re so afraid of you knowing the truth that they ARRESTED my #SOTU guest.”
