Did you use to ride? Just a different way of life back in the late 70's early 80's. Im just really diggin' getting back into this and searching for parts, bikes etc to restore and get back my childhood. It good garage time with my 4 year old who by the way is really getting into it as well. Any of you guys use to ride? Do you still have your bikes? parts?

I started racing BMX in 1984 when living in TN and finished racing in 2000. The sport has changed over the years, but it was a great time and kept me out of trouble. I still ride today, pretty funny when this ol'man crusies up to the jumps, all the youngsters are like what the hell are you going to do.

In the early 80's I raced a JMC around SoCal...so a couple years back I built a JMC Blackshadow with bullseye, flight cranks, araya...all new old stuff....just hangs in the garage now...love building bikes...build a newer Intense Podium Cruiser last...all sizs or carbon fiber stuff...

Rode Northern California. Specifically the Hayward Hills as a kid. Pretty good riders in our area. Patterson brothers (Brent and Brian) and on occasion Stu Thompson whom was the number one BMX rider then. Anyway, rode a Cooks Brother, Thruster (Tim Judge model) and DG alloy everything. I still ride today only a Mountain bike. Wife makes fun of the way I ride my hard tail MB. Says I ride it like a BMX bike. I do! My next ride is the Flume Trail in Tahoe September 24th. Good Times?

I just finished a project bike for my son, Robinson frame, found alot of cool oldschool parts on Ebay. There's actualy a company called old school BMX that I bought some parts from. Found a DK neck, Powerlight aluminum bars, Araya rims, Odyssey brakes, I custom powdercoated everything, found original sticker kits from a little bike shop in Corona. The bike came out perfect.

Two months later it got stolen. I sunk over $800.00 in that bike. Pissed is an understatement, and once the wife found out how much I spent, I had that to deal with.

Bassett had some frames I powdercoated a few months back, they used to make Elfs too.

My first true BMX bike (besides the Huffy I had) was a Santa Ana GT Mini...Cost 400 bucks back in 83. Thing was absolutely beautiful. Wish I still had it.

About 10 years ago I got back into building 80's BMX bikes. Got to finally buy all the bikes I couldn't afford as a kid! :D

Built a 24" Patterson, 24" Hutch, two 20" Hutch's, a 20" Patterson, a 19" Patterson (for my daughter), a 20" 1990 PK Ripper and a newer school 24" Profile (for everyday riding). Also picked up frame and forks to a 20" CW, 20" Race Inc. 20" Kuwahara and antother 20" Patterson. Got burned out building and having them sit in the garage rusting (I live on the beach so the upkeep was KILLIN' me!). So I sold pretty much everything except the 19" Patterson a 19" Redline (newer) and the 24" Profile.

Oldschoolbmx.com has a lot of info and stuff for sale.

Here's a couple of my bikes....

Lemme see if I have a pic on this computer. I'm actually on my older computer and there might be one here. I've been trying to figure out what brand it is, and I can't figure it out. If you remember some of the old skool JMC's had the oval shaped downtube? Mine is like that, but it is the TOP tube that is oval. The thing is super light.

This is my 1984 GT Jr 16" Pro Performer Eddie Fiola tribute before I changed the seatpost clamp and pedals :) I am currently building a 1985 that will be it's exact match. I'm sending the frame and forks out for powder but have all of the parts except for the seat which is a rare find and also about 450 bucks for the condition I want it in :grumble:

I am a huge fan of early 80's GT stuff. The Jr has all of the hard to find parts that are era correct and NOS (New Old Stock):

Tuff neck stem
Repop 1980's GT Santa Ana pads
DC MX1000 brakes stamped 1984
GT winged logo tires
SR Tubular cranks
SR 474 pedals
Skyway mags
Early non knurled GT Pro bars (to big for JR but worth money so F it)
Tuf neck power disc and Chainring
KMC chain
GT epoch headset

I've been offered a grand for it.

The 1985 20" has all of the same parts :)

I also have a 1990 GT JR Pro Performer in Radbury for sale that is show condition/ready. White logo'd 80's style tires etc.

This is my hobby outside of boating.

If anyone needs parts, I collect them. I'm not a Hutch guy personally but can always put you in connect with some for sale. Hutch parts are probably one of the most expensive for collectors. Redline 401's single or double pinch from early 80's are about 750 bucks in "NOS" condition for a show builder, 400+ for really nice "Rider" condition. The pedal prices are out of control.:thumbsdown

I have a 20" Redline Proline hanging in the garage and also found a 24" RRS that I have been trying to restore. Like one I had back in the late 80's

Nice Bikes bring back memories for sure. My brother used to love Patterson's when we moved to CA I ended up meeting Richey Anderson and riding with him, Harry Leary, Turnel Henry and many other old school pros for quite a few years. Those were some good times. Whats funny is many of thoses guys who had there own signature frames were not smart enough to keep them.

Just saw one of these go in the same condition as the one I posted in this thread on a previous page. It wasn't expensive for the frame and forks but finding some of the parts for the 16" bikes can be a pain in the ass.

I started w/ a basic Robinson that I basically swapped everything out on until I ended up w/ a tricked out Aluminum Kastan frame (around 93ish), Flight cranks, Crupi high flange hubs, Answer bars.......damn I regret selling that bike and have been pissed for about 5 years now wishing I had it.

I just got back into biking w/ a 29er mtb, but I think I need a 20 or Cruiser to have fun in town on. If anyone has a line on a Kastan alum let me know!

Oh, and I was looking at the Crupi site, and they are still making the old school (well second gen) hubs, or just have some left for sale.

I raced BMX back in the late 70s-early 80s,on a Redline MXII.Washed a lot of cars and mowed a bunch of lawns to save up the $350 bucks it cost. Got it from PedalPower over on OrangeOlive in Orange. Raced the track there off the 55 and Chapman, the Irvine track, and at the track at the Corona ymca on river road mostly. Raced the big Nationals race at Anaheim convention center one year,I was 1st in the last moto to go to the semi's,and me and #2 got tangled up and both fell on the final straight away.:grumble:

Shortly after buying that bike,we started getting parts from a local bike shop...Coast Wheels,in the same parking lot as the Canyon Inn:cool: The guy who owned the shop later closed the retail bike shop, moved to Anaheim? and started CW Racing.

Not a GBoy is it? drilled out support brace on from upper tube/steer head/down tube? that was a super light frame...

Do you mean an elliptical shape tube? If top tube...only bike i remember like that were the pk rippers...oval tubes....not eliptical....JMC's were eliptical..

Nope, not GBoy........... and it's elliptical, JUST LIKE the JMC's. But it's the top tube, not the bottom tube. Remember, JMC's also had the lightning bolt shaped bottom tube too?

Thanks Brown...Unfortunately most of them are gone. Kept the 19" Patterson, the mini Redline and the 24" Profile. The rest I just couldn't see rust so I let them go to good people. I'll probably end up getting my PK Ripper back soon though.

I assume you'll be able to retire on the price of that JMC when you decide to sell it!:D:D

I raced 1979-1986. My home tracks were Devonshire downs and the Team Center. I race in the ABA and the NBL. I was ranked 34th in the country in the NBL and never went to Oklahoma for the finals. I had a nice JMC that a bike shop in Simi Valley stole from me last year "AKA" went out of business and kept it.

I raced in the early 80s here in the Santa Rosa area. I had a DG that wieghed 23 lbs. I lived in the country where there wasn't alot to do, so my bike was my freedom. I could ride it into town and hang out with friends. I didn't have much fear growing up, so I was always the first to try out the new jump, or trick. Needless to say I made alot of visits to the emergency room. Sorry Mom !!

About 10 years ago I was leaving Colorado and traded a bunch of the stuff I couldn't fit in my truck for a BMX bike because I love them still to this day. Well last year I went to the local bike snipe to get some new tubes and tires put on it and trade it for a 24" cruiser. I got to the shop and the owner started looking it over. He told me he has never seen a bike like mine and it was super rare. He said I can't ever sell it. I went home and looked it up. It's a bontrager b52 and apparently only a few were made. I started riding it again and even got my girl a 20" gt performer for her to ride with me. It's gotta be a trip to young kids to see my old ass on a tricked out 20"!

Did a Wheaties commercial at Ascott track when I was a kid. Sang to the tune of "Before I race on my two wheelies..I get the eaties for my Wheaties!!" Still have my Webco that they shot the commercial with.

Mine had 3 peice crank uni seat and the skinny rims on it when my dad threw it away after I moved out:swear:rolleyes:

Raced a couple times at the Y in Orange.

Maaaaan, this thing is already hanging up in the garage. :D Yea, it is super light. It's gotta be like maybe 20 lbs. or less. How bad do you wanna kick your Dad in the beans for that?:D Soooo, skinny rims back then for you? And now it's skinny jeans huh?:gayfight;)
