How the hell does nobody have credible information on this? This is riverdaves, it's more or less a havasu information hub.
Seems crazy

They didn't put a lot out that I could see, and it seems like what they did put out changed kinda half way through? I just got the promoters phone # so I'm going to call him.

Would be funny. Can I get a sponsor? I will call out a bennington. Ha.

I think toon drags is the wave of the future. And then also drags while barbecuing, all kinds of spins you can put on it, you would have to complete the race while your co driver must complete the burger or dog before the finish line.

Neither Golakehavasu.com, or havasunews.com have any information about this event.. I'm wondering how access to the south end of the lake is going to be affected from Thompson bay. Looks like its gonna be screwed, but I cant find anything. Anybody know anything?

Explain this photo that?s on their FB page. Is there more going on than the straight line races in Thompson bay??

?Crickets?

I believe that is the course for their "Roundup Cup" races.

Is that one of the races happening this weekend??

So, a 3/4 mile course starting in front of the Nautical? As mentioned in a prior post, they received a permit from USCG to restrict the lake all the way to Copper Canyon?

How the hell does nobody have credible information on this? This is riverdaves, it's more or less a havasu information hub.

I was beginning to think my posts were hidden or something. At least you got a response [emoji849]

Look at the OP's post. There is a schedule and clearly 2 different races between the callout challenge and the roundup cup. It's not too clear to me which is which but it makes sense for the cup race to be the longer one.

I spoke with Bill last night, he is the promoter of this event.

To answer some basic questions, yes you will be able to exit the south end of the channel and idle around the course. You will also be able to come up the California side of the lake outside of the safetyboats.

He isn't looking to put on top speed shootouts. He was quick to point out they aren't even measuring speed. This entire call out challenge thing is to "cultivate and grow the sport of offshore boat racing." He is encouraging people to come and learn how to hit the corners and learn how to drive their boats. As his events grow into the future that is what they are pushing towards via having a pace boat start, down a straight, one corner, down a straight, corner and then finish.

This first event I would expect 95% of the field is going to straight line it. It will he interesting to see how many are trying the circles by end of day Saturday / Sunday!

Thanks Brian. Sounds like we?ll be able to get down the lake. But I want to watch some of this, should be kinda cool[emoji106]

Should we expect to see the B&D Daytona on the course??

Makes for a longer no wake, but that allows me to watch some.
I am more worried about low water at Topock this weekend and the impacts that could have on my Sunday breakfast.

From what I?m gathering, should only have to idle through Thompson bay, but should be able to run down the lake, just stay to the Cal side. I?m gonna make some calls tomorrow.

Up river the water is gonna be cold. Wife won?t be happy [emoji51]

According to this picture, it appears that we're going to have to follow an escort boat all the way to Copper Canyon at no wake speed??? If so, this is ridiculous!

Is there any idea on what the turnout is supposed to be? It seemed liked there was not a whole lot of promotion behind it, all i saw were a few posts on Instagram by one participant. Seems hard to believe that they would be able to cover all of the costs surrounding shutting the lake down unless it was on the scale of desert storm.

bringing to havasu another event i wouldnt call ridiculous. Will it interrupt your boating for a couple days yes. But if this thing grows into another desert storm type event....thats awesome for our city!

Why can't they use a part of the lake that doesn't interrupt everyone else wanting to use the lake? I absolutely think it's ridiculous to interrupt what people drove several hours to enjoy for the weekend!

Our boat is in the marina so for us to enjoy the water we will have to be escorted around a closed course. We have our dogs on the boat and it's kind of hot this weekend for them to be stuck on a boat idling for how many miles around a closed course. We need to get out of the normal no wake zone and head for our destination for the day. So, yes, I think it's ridiculous to be inconvenienced when we have as much right to what's supposed to be a navigable waterway for all of us.

Actually racing toon's is a big thing in the midwest from what I have heard? They even have circle courses etc..

I believe it's only no wake through thompson bay.. The rest is fine just don't cross the safety boats.

I do'nt think that's the case.

I heard bits and pieces earlier this summer, but was told by a few people it was cancelled. I just started hearing more about it about a week ago. I'm not sure what kind of turn out they will have, but I hope it is successful for them. Could potentially be a good event or LHC if they bring back the circle races with the big boats!

The old pontoon circle races that were held during the Havasu Classic were required to have a driver, navigator and bartender on board :champagne:

I still don't understand this at all... is it just some pissing contest? Who's wanger is bigger? What's the deal?

I think the idea is to get people to try some kind of "next level" to test their skills and equipment with the "Vision" of them getting hooked enough to build a dedicated race boat (at some point) and start racing in organized event that have rules / tech / weight limitations / power parity where a "win" actually means you accomplished something.

Pacific Offshore (Regional APBA series) used to provided this (don't even know if they are around anymore) - and it worked with a few people, me included - first race Marina Del Rey I think it was 1992 - only a few boats showed up but I participated (with a converted pleasure boat and got my ass kicked big time) it and I was hooked - over the next 15 years I built 3 dedicated race boats including two full canopy boats and raced at the Elite Level of APBA Offshore for years.

It would prefer to see an organised start with some rules at least, and I doubt there will be any boat parity so who is "out front" will still have no meaning but its a step, (baby step) to distinguish your self from just running down the river and thinking your a Bad Ass.

If there are ZERO organizations like this the only way you increase boat count in APBA Offshore is find someone who is willing to make a leap to a full canopied boat, W- spares, support trucks, etc etc etc right out of the gate and to out and see what they can do against the Pros - or "buy a ride" with a team and no top level teams sell rides, only poorly capitalized teams with dated equipment that dosen't have much of a chance of being competitive unless everyone else breaks.

Something is better than nothing....

New To Boating has hit the nail on the head. I was also fortunate enough to race with POPBRA and MBRA from '84 thru '94. We started off racing a stock 24' Spectra daycruiser, and after getting our "asses kicked" got with the program...even won High Points in 1986. It was about consistency and finishing. Stepped up to bigger, faster boats
thru the years until finally building a 38' Active open class boat. There was literally a class for everybody who participated. Organized starts, tech inspections....all very important for safe racing. What you will find is that a multi-lap race is far different from a poker run, and it will take it's toll on your equipment. If you are truly competitive, you WILL get serious.!!

I live in the Midwest..Never heard of a toon race..

Well then partner, you're missing out :rolleyes Would seem you've been missing the annual McKainer Pontoon Boat Barrel Race held at Lake Wawasee in Syracuse Indiana.

Hold onto your seat, this shit gets REAL :eek

Here's some exciting coverage from the 2015 event --- and if you want to Barrel Race, Don't forget Manitou, because nothing does barrel racing like a Manitou :thumbsup

Dave-

How can we get all these events on the calendar or some sort of events schedule. Unless you search a particular event, here or elsewhere, many are hard to plan ahead to attend.

Not Dave --- but here's a good source for LHC events

https://golakehavasu.com/events/

Well, maybe not that great since I notice it doesn't list the Offshore race this weekend --- which should be just slightly more exciting than the pontoon barrel racing :D
If they want to run Offshore boats on Havasu, then pick a date with a howling north wind and run it in the main basin, better yet, try the ocean :thumbsup

Sounds like this event didn't go off. According to Facebook, the Sheriff's wouldn't let it go down because they didn't have enough safety boats. Can anyone that is there confirm??

I was there this morning and did not see anything going on. Looked like a normal Saturday in Thompson Bay.

Just went through that CF. safety boats along with sheriff on south end of course telling you to hug CA coast line, but then people were cutting right back into the middle of the course. Total CF with no control. IMO, it is a safety hazard now!

So after I made my post 3 races took place in a matter of 45min. Two cats with a rolling start.A twin outboard and a green offshore boat. A boat that look to be a HTM and again the green offshore. The few races we saw they did rolling starts. This is not NASCAR or circle boat racing. It's more like drag racing

Exactly. Came into Thompson bay about 2 hours ago, heading to the channel, and it looked to be a bit disorganized. A couple boats ran right as we came in, but spectator boats were all over the place.

Btw, you should have your hearing checked. You went by us in the channel a while ago (maybe 15 feet away from me) and I yelled at you... nothing [emoji849]
