Offer up story of the day

I just listed our old RV on Craigslist/offer up. A guy messages me saying he will pay in cash and will be there in 45 minutes. The offer was lower than our asking price, but it would get back our down payment for the newer one. The boat is coming back on Feb 1st and we need the space so we want it gone. It took a bit of moving things around to get the RV out front.

15 minutes later, he sends a message saying his buddy said it’s worth 12k-14k. 6k lower than the price he originally offered. I sent him a link to a dealership selling a similar to ours with the price. And told him, we won’t be accepting offers that low.

45 minutes go by and no one shows up. 5 minutes later, a guy pulls up and asks Robert if the RV is for sale and Robert said yes, are you the guy from offer up. Guy says no, he was in the area looking at another RV… he acts like he knows nothing about the RV and doesn’t test anything. He throws out an offer 2k lower than the “offer up guy” made. We say no, and he asks to leave his number. He then gives us his brothers number.. I’m now convinced this is the guy from offer up playing games. I just don’t believe he was in our neighborhood looking at a different RV and couldn’t provide his number.

I hate selling larger items… you never know what’s going to happen.

When selling just about anything there's 3 options.

1. Pay the consignment fee and move on with your life.
2. Trade it in and move on with your life.
3. Sell it yourself and possibly make a little extra for dealing with the BS.

Normally I will hold my ground and wait for my price but right now is a weird deal with toys. Especially if someone showed up that quick

When I sold my fifth wheel I think it was for about $45,000. We just met at the bank, the teller ran the cash and it was in my account and everything was verified as legit. I’d find out if there were any counterfeit bills right then in there. I can pretty much tell by touching them though.

I know some people don’t wanna put the cash in the bank so that’s their own prerogative.

I think Robert has a marker and his friend down the street has one of those LED machines. I have sold things to RDP members who I knew were solid members and we never checked or counted. But, once the guy fumbled with his name, and other things, he instantly became untrustworthy.

It’s always dicey dealing with cash. I have bought a RZR alone with cash. I always carry on these deals as most times Robert isn’t available and I have to handle it. Thankfully nothing has happened.

But after seeing this dude in Instagram that makes prop cash. Wholly shit it look real.

Then the guy who bought my trailer told me his buddy buys flowers from those Mexicans on the side of the road. He uses a $100 bill so he will get $80 in change. wtf!?

Glad his bank paid me and he wasn’t using cash. That’s effed.

It’s been listed for a week. I didn’t even think of that. I know RVs have been sitting for a while so maybe this will have things moving, just in an unfortunate way. If someone told me that is why they are looking for the RV, I would bring the price down to our bottom line immediately for them without them asking.

Things happen for a reason. The guy may not have been trying to pawn off counterfeit bills, but sounds like he was trying to lowball you in a shady way. Best not to deal with people like that anyway. A good buyer will show. Most times, when you least expect it, and are ready to give in.

My neighbor here in havasu had the exact same situation happen, a guy low balls, then within a day a random guy pulls up and asks if the vehicle is for sale unprovoked.


Our street is a super quiet street just off the foothills with next to zero traffic, I call bullsh!t on the guy just happened to be in the area

There was not a for sale sign on the RV, and there are a few RVs in our neighborhood. It was just an odd situation.

My in-laws live on a busy street. One evening, a little Hispanic lady knocked
on their door and asked if their Accord was for sale. They said no. She said please how much. So they responded $4000. The lady said oh that is too much and left.

About two weeks later, there was a knock at the door and it was the lady with $4000.

It happens.

It does happen.
I had just got a new to me truck and was washing my old truck. Guy pulls up and asks if I’m interested in selling it. I had no sign or ads out on it. I said yes and he asked how much and I said 5K. He said “Oh no! That’s way too much. That’s maybe a $2K truck.”
Me- “Ok. Bye.”
I kick myself for selling it.

Just got home from Glamis and got a message on offer up that they could be by within 30 minutes. We got it ready to show. A family shows up and buys it.

Turns out it was a family who lost their home in a fire. They have been in a hotel until now. Robert ended up giving him the lowest price we could give it away for and we gave their family a bunch of roasts from our 1/4 from fort rock farms.

I bursted into tears pretty quickly after Robert gave back some of the cash after we heard about them losing their home. We didn’t know until after the deal was made and pink slip was signed. I hope it does them well until they can recover. The pictures they showed us was devastating.

And sometimes we help people we've never met, by matter of circumstance.
