White House building legacy, freeing hundreds of drug dealers.

President Obama on Wednesday commuted the sentences of another 214 convicted drug felons, mostly dealers, bringing his total to 562 inmates who he has freed under his executive power to end punishments.

And the White House says there are many more reprieves to come.

"Today's 214 grants of commutation also represent the most grants in a single day since at least 1900," wrote White House lawyer Neil Eggleston on the White House website. "That being said, our work is far from finished. I expect the president will continue to grant clemency in a historic and inspiring fashion."

Eggleston boasted that Obama already "with nearly six months left in office" has commuted the sentences of more convicts than all the presidents combined dating back to John F. Kennedy, who released about 100.

The White House tweeted the announcement and the following chart Wednesday afternoon, stating: "BREAKING: @POTUS just commuted the sentences of 214 additional people, surpassing the past 9 presidents combined."

Hmm. Thought we were just all told that the POTUS does not have any power like this unless congress and the senate approve?

Guess Trump could make sweeping changes too...since no one gives a shit what the traitor in the WH is doing.

That's not so bad. The biggest tax cheat in American history, on the run, not even convicted just wrote a check and had his wife bang the Rapist in chief and Voila?

A pardon!

So is this a message to LE and the legal system to ignore drug dealing?

Curious how much thought was put into how the street violence surrounding drug dealing will be effected. I'd think turf wars would increase with unabetted dealing and the number of junkies would increase with more supply available. Thus more B&E's and other crimes associated with druggies seeking funding. More product would also cause a drop in prices making it more affordable than higher priced bootleg prescription drugs. Several issues, all negative resulting from the cheaper, bigger supply.....

O has not only screwed up the general economy, he's now screwed up the underground street drug economy.:rolleyes

Bottom line, for every drug prisoner released we'll likely see several street thugs and/or collateral damage innocents killed and have a potential 1 or more perps convicted of some degree of murder to take the newly vacated cell space. What a smart trade off that will be. More legacy material for the O-Idiot.:thumbsdown

All POTUS have complete and total pardon power. No approval necessary. Always been this way. Some use it with discretion some don't.

Gee, I wonder what the "ethnic ratio" looks like

This is what the ethnic ratio looks like:

According to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) in 2013 non-Hispanic black males accounted for 37% of the total male prison population, non-Hispanic whites 32%, and Hispanic males 22%. White females compromised 49% of the prison population in comparison to black females who accounted for 22% of the female population. However the imprisonment rate for black females (113 per 100,000) was 2x the rate for white females (51 per 100,000.[52] Out of all ethnic groups, native Black Americans, Puerto Rican Americans, and American Indians have some of the highest rates of incarceration. Though, of these groups, the black population is the largest, and therefore make up a large portion of those incarcerated in US prisons and jails.

Thats nice. I want to know what the ratio of released or commuted inmates looks like. The non-hispanic, black males are 37% of the incarcerated population? What is that in relation to the general population?

Maybe the outrage should be, that people who make up 13% of the population are being incarcerated at a rate of 37%, not that a few hundred are being released.
Either the system is flawed, or black people are inherently criminal. I'll let you decided...

I'll trust the integrity of the US justice system more than I trust Obama.

We've elected a black man to POTUS twice, We have a second black AG. Try turning "outrage" into complete integration as American, rather than African-American. This President has done more to hurt civil rights than anyone in history.

Maybe 13% of the population shouldn't be responsible for over 30% of the crimes committed. I know I know they're all choir boys and girls wrongly accused. And systemic racism is to blame, Bullshit!

You want lower incarceration numbers? Make education a priority. Make a two parent home a priority. Make respect a priority. There's a good start.

I'd never say black people are inherently criminal as that's bullshit.

That's a false dichotomy. It's clearly a complex situation and to present it as only have diametrically opposed choices serves no purpose. The amazing thing is we don't know how many crimes the criminals (white, black, brown, yellow, etc) each commit before they are put in the pen. So really, who is causing more havoc and who is being locked up, and why is a hell of a lot more complex than saying the system is flawed or people are racist.
