Thanks, I will keep that i mind.
My first concern would be the hull is rated at 150 max HP. (so beefing up my 150 is away around more HP )
Trying to insure it / or misleading them could have a bad outcome for me if i needed to use for whatever reason.

Hereā€™s the pictures of the pieces that I pulled out once I took the prop off. So basically these all shot out down through the lower.

You could get a 150hp or higher, with 800 to 1200 hours at a very reasonable price. Those hours still have a lot of life left in them.

Mercury 2-stroke fishing engines were designed for "high hundreds" of hours. At 800-1200 you are ready for a rebuild.

A Yamaha 2-stroke would still have a lot of life left at that stage. They were designed for 2000-3000 hours.

Huh? My '85 200 has never been rebuilt. I don't have an hour meter on it (almost nobody does from back then), but it's been ran a LOT. Along with my uncle's. No major issues in either.

As long as they have proper oiling and water flow, they will run a LONG time.

My 92 Yamaha ProV 200 has 2600 hrs and still going strong. Yamaha said it should go 4000+ hrs. Switched to pre-mix a few years back and runs better than ever..........

2600 is not unreasonable for a Yamaha 2-stroke.

2000-3000 is what I was told many years ago.

"High hundreds" is what Mercury designed the carb, EFI and DI fishing engines for, assuming that they are properly taken care of.

If you get more, you are lucky. If you get less, you are unlucky.

Both my 300XS powerheads gave up at around the 300 hour mark. I expect to get more out of their replacements, and would be positively surprised if they pass the 1000 hour mark.

Well we have started looking into it.
Looks like #6 might have an issue.

Well. Itā€™s dead. The block is fucked. View attachment 1245582
could be worse...Buddy blew his up and the rod kept coming around and sawed the block in half...knocked the starter through a new hole in the cowl, front half, intake, carb, switch boxes, throttle linkage, The whole damn thing was scrap. I think he was able to save the head bolts lol

Stick with the Marc. Massage that little 150 to a 225 (same block and internals I believe) and have good, reliable fun.
Agree I heard most use the 2.5 block itā€™s just other internal changes to make the power.

You DEFINITELY did good. I would fix rather than buy new - the hull is AWESOME and a great piece of history. Good job!

A few minor issuesā€¦.yesterday when we got it firedā€¦.weā€™re having some fuel issuesā€¦primer ball didnā€™t feel right. Turned out the fuel line (that grey shit) had collapsed the liner and was a major restrictionā€¦possibly the smoking gun as to why the old motor broke?ā€¦who knows.

Fixed that and was able to keep it running so the t-stats would open. I put my hand on the head and got a nice tickle from the 35 year old plug wiresā€¦lol. Thatā€™s on the list. Needle valves didnā€™t appear to be leaking. Itā€™s a stout little XR-2 that needs a bit of love after an 8 year slumberā€¦.but once they work through all the little stuff, itā€™ll be a good runner.

I just fired mine up on. The hose for the first time in about a year...... defiantly running on 5 at most. Looks like the electric pump is pushing past the needle and seat on the bottom carb and likely some bad fuel line as well. At least that's all I'm hoping it is. Really don't want to dive into the spark boxes and such.

Keep in mind they drain the top carb for the enrichment and always cold start on the lower 4 cylindersā€¦should come in on 6 in 5-10 seconds. Why are you running an electric fuel pump? My OEM pulse pump on my 200hp 2.4L keeps up with 7000RPM just fine...and doesn't use up 80% of the charging system

Ya. A little hick up today. We had talked about plugs and wires. But I thought we could get out and have a little hour or so run around the lake. Well it started out okay. Idled out came in to pick my son up on the dock. It died. And that was the day. Hey it got wet at least. šŸ‘
Anywhoo. Getting some new wires and plugs hopefully in time for our Wednesday trip.
If not. Itā€™s been two years and another week to wait for the parts we need is no biggie.
After all. I got nothing but time right now. šŸ˜œ

I've heard them in the brush up by the wipe down area but never seen one
Iā€™m surprised weā€™ve never had one in our yard after 20+ years. On a hillside just about 1/4 mile from the west ramp entrance.
Donā€™t get me wrong. Iā€™m fine with not seeing one. Lol.

Any of the % alcohol fuel will eat all the rubber in the motor - gas lines first, carb parts, etc. Cheap fix, youā€™re still on the right track!

You canā€™tā€¦one is a 2 liter and one is a 2.4 or 2.5Lā€¦.you ainā€™t getting 225hp out of a 2L for any reasonable amount of money. That 150 is about perfect for that boat. If you wanna go faster, go find a 200hp for $1500 or so and bolt that on. Keep in mind, the 150s use a 2:1 gearcase while the 200s use a 1.87:1 gearcase.

I think your money will be better spent on a low water pickup/nosecone and a jackplate....all else being equal, when I added a jackplate and the LWP to my bahner, I found about 15mph just by playing nintendo on the steering wheel buttons for trim and plate. Then dunk it back in the water to tow the kids on tubes or tow skiers or whatever. Set up right, I don't see any reason that little daytona won't do 70-75 w/ a healthy 150hp on it.

Pat is right, unless it's an XR4, it's a 2L and no dice. Then I think it may be just a carb swap away, and some timing adjustment.

I have an XR4 block here, they're not finger ported like the 83 and later 2.4s....they're more like the early 2.4s with a headbolt bosses on the cylinders. Some day I'll measure up the mod VP engine and copy the portwork into the XR4....maybe, someday...lol. (After I gather up the rest of the parts to put my bridgeport together and go through the one on my boat now)

Finally. Ran a bit at about 4K to check it all out. Ran a bit at 6k. Sounds and runs smooth and strong.
Definitely need a prop. My 19 pitch merc aluminum isnā€™t cutting it. No one got scared. Lol

That would get me into troubleā€¦which why my hot rod pile is still a pileā€¦and the boat has a stock-ish 2.4L 200 on it
So. Should I have done this to scare the shit out of my passengers. Lol.
Pretty sure it wasnā€™t gonna fit anyway. šŸ˜±šŸ˜œšŸ¤·
