I will start with the negative…….

It’s days like today, in which I am reminded what I am missing out on, by moving away from friends and family in Phoenix. We knew there would be days like this, when we made that decision. It still hurts.

My daughter has just been admitted to the hospital in Phoenix, to give birth to our first grandchild. My wife and I are eagerly awaiting news and updates. Right now, it appears we are looking at a December 4th birth.

She wasn’t due for another 10 days, so we are quite surprised to be going through this tonight.

I joked about this on another thread, but now that it’s here, I can’t think of anything funny. Except for I feel too young to be a grandpa at 60.

I have a lot of random thoughts going through my head right now, but mainly I am being reminded how short life is. It seems like only yesterday, I was teaching her how to drive a car. But in reality……. That was 17 years ago. It seems like that time just flew by.

Please keep my daughter in your thoughts and prayers tonight. My wife and I appreciate it! Thank you for reading.

WOW - What a milestone…….

Best of luck to your daughter and congratulations to you and yours.

P.S. the younger you are the better, it allows you to spend more time with grandchildren and be in better shape while doing so.

Your daughter will very likely do great. Be thankful you have the health, wealth and desire to soon be there with her. Most often young birthing mothers don‘t want an audience. But, they’re very happy to be surrounded by loving parents and family soon after. Besides, one day old grandkids tend to be all ”shined up“ and, in their Mom’s eyes, and show very well. Get out to Phoenix Grandpa, as soon as you can. Congrats! Enjoy!

Milestones are weird things...I'm 47, and was the youngest of three. When Pops was my age, he had two grandkids already

A bit under 21 years ago, my wife went into labor with our first. A month early, scary times. Seems only yesterday I was screwing up putting berets in her hair, and figuring out a car seat. Next week she graduates from college.

Mathematically, I know I must be older. I don't feel older aside from the broken bones. My head still feels the same...maybe a bit more sober? The point is, they're all marks on a timeline we call age. It's still your "little girl" you're worried about, as well as her child. Pretty sure you'll be a good "grandpa", "opa" or whatever moniker is put on it.
Take a breath, and enjoy the ride.

We’ve got family all over the country, so missing out on milestones is an unfortunate reality for us. Sometimes we feel as though we’re on an island. We’ll keep your daughter and the little one in our prayers.

An RDP poll of inmate’s ages when they became grandparents would be interesting. I was 55. And I know that’s an OG. Most surprisingly, due to my often away work schedule, I was actually there. My wife, grandma and I, were amazingly in the delivery room. That was good. But, the next week was even more amazing. So thankful we were able to be there.

64 with 5 grandkids so far.

They will steal your heart.

It's usually better to have the kid a little before the due date.

As a family member who is a OBGYN says "nothing good happens after the due date"

You’re going to love being a grandpa! Our grandson will be driving in just over a year….for now we see him a lot, as he uses my taxi service. 😏

I was 56 when he was born.

Praying that everything goes well with your daughter and her and the baby are both healthy. I became a grandpa this year at the age of 45 with our 26 year old. Seems like I don’t care about anything else other than my granddaughter these days. She’s all I think about. The best is yet to come for you and your wife. Congrats.

Congratulations.
First off 60 is not too young. In todays world you and your wife should be able to attend granddaughters High School graduation, If she chooses college you can be there for that too.
Sharing vacation time going forward you have memories that will last a lifetime. ☺️

Congrats. Prayers to a healthy baby and easy delivery for your daughter. 60 isn’t to young. We made my parents grandparents at 56&57. Sounds like you may be able to catch a flight to Phoenix before your big trip?

I’ll make grandpa status end of march, in a few short months, at 49. I’m blessed to have her right down the street though…

My oldest grandchild is 26 and we attended her college graduation. My youngest is 5 and at 72 probably won't see hers. will get to see the two youngest over Christmas in Buellton if I make it through the traffic getting there in the motorhome lol.

I see a condo back in Arizona in your future. Grand kids are like strong magnets. Congratulations, we got our first at age 50, she is the queen of our families world. We love being part of her life and helping influence her upbringing.

Book your plane trip now. Go be part of that experience.

Just an update…….

We are still waiting.

It’s slightly more complicated than that, but I just want to keep this post positive. But she has currently been in delivery room for 17 hours and still has not given birth.

I am heartbroken that I am not there for her right now. She is having a very tuff time.

M y mom labored 72 hours with me before they did a C Section. She has no problem reminding me the pain she endured to bring me into this world ;) All turned out good so that will be my Prayer for your daughter.

I will be a 1st time Grandpa at the age of 56 early next year. Its a happy, odd feeling for sure. Happy for them, not happy I starting thinking about age. You start the 'maybe I should.....I need too... I should have...' thoughts.

Congrats

Congrats! Being a grandparent is WAY better than being a parent. Not that I didn’t enjoy every minute of that phase.

As a Papa, my job is to love ‘em, teach the to be respectful, tell them yes to almost any request, feed Them lots of sugar then send ‘em home. And I’m very good at my job. Have three girls and one boy now, all live within 4 hours drive and boy is life GREAT!

Hang in there. Both our children were VERY rough births, emergency C sections, and other stuff.

It will work out and babies are pretty darn tough with the process of entering the world. I am speaking first hand.

Book a flight if you haven't already.

Why not fly in and be with your family?

Things should go smooth… I remember our first, we were in and sent back home then back for the delivery…. It was a rollercoaster… my wife definitely needed her mom at that point, and she was great help.

Looking forward to good news.

And lol “too old at 60” …. 60 is old AF. Congrats gramps!

I could’ve walked to Phoenix by now…..

My wife and I were just laughing about this…….

One day, my Grandson will ask “what were you doing the day I was born?”

My answer………. I dressed up like an Elf on a Shelf with Anxiety!

In Just a couple more hours…….. we got to get suited up for tonight’s parade. Here is a pic from last year.

Get your butt on a plane and get out here! You should have a condo here as well because you DONT want to miss out on these experiences. Congrats!

I got my Dad to move from TN to PHX. I told him he is not missing out on my daughter like he did me. In his old age, he made the move!
