. . . or adult for that matter.

I find these digitally restored videos completely fascinating, and the closest thing to a time machine.

From the comments in the video, it seems like this was taken about 1937.

My Dad who was born in LA in 1932 would've been 5 . . . . he really trips out when I show him these . . he names most all of the cars.

From the comments, it looks like this was taken on San Pedro Street (not city) near Manchester in LA . . . sketchy area now.

It sure shows how much people in todays society have deteriorated physically . . . . embarrassing actually.

And some things the same as today, cars turning left in front of oncoming traffic, kids walking four abreast down the street in the traffic lane.....

Also everyone is looking up. Not on a phone.

At 6:43 and 8:02, there are views of a building on carriages, being readied to move...F' me! I'm impressed when they do it now with modern stuff. This is like pyramid building tech.

Nobody's gonna comment about the fact this guy is out filming little kids walking home from school? Seems like an odd pass time for the era.
I read some replies in some of his other videos which had similar 'random' subject matter . . . they were saying that some of these films may have been from apprentice camera operators at the time, and or film students as hollywood was sort of just taking off in that period. Sort of, "Here, go take this camera and go film some stuff to learn how to use it". A lot of the LA stuff is taken near where the studios were at the time . . . burbank etc. . . . There's one that shows a bunch of cars leaving work in the ship building yards in San Pedro ? Long Beach area . . . .

Damn, you put it that way, and it makes you really think about all the modern day intersection cameras, not for red lights, just for information. The intersection right in front of the high school has multiples in each direction.

When my wife's grandparents moved from Lynwood to Cherry Valley in the mid 60s, Watts riots were a very motivating factor, they bought a few acres and had 3 homes moved from LA. 2 were rentals and one they lived in, and they had a cherry farm. Always wondered how long it took to haul a house that far not to mention all the permits.

In the book I got from my great uncle, it had pictures of the Spruce Goose being moved down to the house as harbor for assembly. The fuselage and wings on separate "trailers". I believe it was a 2 day trip, as the pictures showed them parked for the night in a field somewhere in what is now Compton.

I've seen pictures online of that Goose move too. Cool stuff.

A link to some footage of that move..

I was born in the wrong era all together. OSHA wasn't around, but common sense was.

On a side, and weird, automotive note: a couple of old timers up here are big into antique engines and farm equipment. One of them has a massive hit&miss setup on the back of an old Diamond T, I think. These guys, as recent as a few years ago, have drug some giant stuff back, like steam tractor, iron wheel things.

They use some antique, chain drive Mack to tow them home, or to museums and collectors they know. Some of the pics they have at the local show look like these setups...in color. They load their stuff and the Mack on a gooseneck, and take their modern truck. Then, they'll use it to follow, like a pilot/support vehicle. It may take a month, but they just slow roll down old two lanes. No permits, no CDL...just old school. Really old school. Very patient men. They say in small town USA, people are very nice, and nobody has ever bothered them with laws. Top speeds are only around 20 when towing.

Funny that the FDA has spent billions of dollars over the years from the 50's telling us a meat based diet is bad. We changed our diet to "low fat" processed foods and look what it did to us. We've gone back to a meat based food diet and have never felt better. Don't feel bloated and am actually loosing weight but not reducing my intake.

My parents were born and raised in Los Angeles. Pre WWII, they each lived in Watts. My dad attended Grape St Elementary and graduated from Jordan High. They’d go to the beach in Long Beach. My dad spoke of the big surf in LB prior to the federal breakwater going in. Good video. Thanks for posting.

I didn't see any ridiculous tattoos. I always love seeing old parts of L.A. when I worked there about 6 years ago but they look old even at the time of this video. Did concrete and paving work. One job we were saw cutting the road. Slurry started out black, then red, then tan... Demo'd the road and pulled the asphalt, then brick, then cobblestone. 50 feet away there was a fucking spark show coming off the blade then the blade got stuck... hit an old covered up train rail.

When I was a kid in the early 60's we rode bikes and skateboards everywhere. At thirteen I started surfing and the only way to get to the beach was walking or riding my bike carrying a surfboard. I lived about three miles from the beach. An average day for me at the age of 15 was get up at dawn head to the beach and surf for two or more hours. Then hang out with friends and have lunch then maybe ride bikes to Venice or play volley ball, maybe go for a bodysurf when the blackball went up etc.During the school year my junior and senior year we had surf Class. Tuesday's and Thursday's we surfed or did a two mile run if the waves sucked. The other days I didn't have class till11 am so more surfing the rest of the time. I told my daughter our average day would have qualified as training for a triathalon. Now these kids ride around on electric bikes and probably would gas out after a hundred yard dash.

In the thread what era would you go back to, the 50’s was my first pick.
Late 40s, but pre-Korea...when things were winding down from "war footing". Everyone was appreciative of what they had, and what could be done as humans...both good and bad. People as a whole took pride in who the were, and what they did.
