THIS!!!!

The majority of these fkn blow boaters are complete assholes to the power boaters!

Well, most are liberals. So, there’s that. Unhappy lot.

I actually enjoy sailing. Sabits or sunfish. Good times.

I was leaving the harbor once, a while back. And I’m idling out past a sailboat. I wave. They flip me off! Zero reason.

Now, I’m in my younger years and less patient than I am
Now and I thought to myself, what the actual fuck? The entitlement and lack of accountability. You think you can just flip
Someone off and it’s ok? Not today!

I turned around and rolled up right fuckin next to him “you have a fuckin problem? I can follow you to your dock and we can resolve it like men. Or you want to keep being a little bitch randomly flipping people off and think nothings gonna happen?” He and his crew were someone speechless. “Uh uh no, I don’t want that I don’t know what you’re talking about….” I said, yeah that’s what I thought fuckin pussy”.

I had just had enough of asshole sailboats and their elitist entitlement.

When the kids were around 8 and 9 I bought our first ocean boat, they waved at every boat they thought could see them as we went by.
Leaving a congested harbor I stayed off plane and gave everyone the widest berth I could, went around a blow boat full of people and when the kids waved at them they just stared back with dirty looks, my kids were hurt and didn't understand, felt they did something wrong.

I said fuck it and spun around, came alongside and reamed the shit out of them.

My parting remark was your kids are pretending to have a good time but in reality they are wishing they had a cool Dad too.

Yeah, agreed. it's an old video. Sorry though, when I see her disappear in a cloud of soot I LMAO every time.

Also, thos guys are fags. She was 100% ready to get railed to get out on that boat but instead they had a sausage party.

That absolutely sucks. both the smokeys and the sailboat

I consider myself a courteous boater... Been on both sides of the isle..

I paddle board the harbor a lot and if sometimes a power boat is making a bigger wake than I think is acceptable I just power through it and accept that there's enough water for Both of us.. I certainly wouldn't intentionally create any fucked up situation for any body else on the water..

But yes....... there are some A holes who either don't care or oblivious...

Sorry to break it to you all but a sailboat under sail has right of way over pretty much every recreational vessel In most if not all situations.

One reason they seem like assholes is that a lot of powerboaters don’t know this rule. Sailers ain’t stopping or getting out of your way, it’s your job to get out of there’s.

I thought the video shows a great example of the definition of “bow steering”.

FWIW, that is why you need to stay off the back of a wave when entering a stacked inlet. Your powerboat will do the exact same thing if you allow it to go downhill.

As far as the video in this thread……… sure it looks like the boat driver is a dick. But……. If that is not a no wake or slow speed area, and it’s a speed zone. Then it’s a different story.

Pkrrvr619…….. He is legally overtaking the sailboat, which is on the same parallel course. The sailboat is not crossing the path of the powerboat. No right of way exists in this situation. It also appears they are in a marked channel. However, the sailboat is the stand on vessel, the powerboat is the give way vessel, until the forward pass is made. No rules were broken here, except for the fact that you are responsible for the wake you create.

Yep agreed. I was making a more generalized comment as sailboats were getting the “lake lice” treatment here and from my time sailing I can count on one hand how many power boaters know the rules of the road when it comes to sail boaters. 👍

A vessel being overtaken is the highest in the Colregs pecking order. Virtually every other vessel must avoid passing near to them and must not impede the progress of the vessel overtaken. This can get interesting in places like San Diego harbor during their sailboat Beer Can Regatas. Power vessel are limited to 5 knots or less in many areas of that harbor. Many of the sailboats are totally under sail and overtaking those 5 kt power vessels. In this case the power vessel (being overtaken) is the stand on vessel, the sailboat is the give way vessel. Right of way is no longer the term used. But, if it were, in that video the sailboat would have the right of way because they were being overtaken by the power boat.

I love sail boaters. They are the best at everything they do.
Said NO power boater...EVER.

14 years of this boat and countless miles (I have about 7500 and the boat well over 10k miles, yes our nav tracks total mileage) I have seen all their stupid shit but rest assured they come up with more stupid shit and surprise you.

They move at the speed of nothing most the time but are the most impatient people out there. Figure that one out.

I grew up sailing San Diego Bay………

It should be noted that even though the rules of the road are the same throughout the country, local traditions dictate different protocols. For instance, nobody in San Diego or SoFlo use sound signals. But, they are ubiquitous on the Mississippi River and almost all parts of the Great Loop.

I am sorry to say this, but sailboats get no respect in SoFlo. The people I know locally, would view the video, and blame the sailboater for taking his “no freeboard” sailboat into a known speed zone. Known for large wakes. That’s the risk the sailboat took……. and lost.

I personally, will aim my boat “head on“ to any jet ski that tries to take the center of any channel or bridge. It’s a technique I learned when I moved here and I must admit……. It works well.

One last thing about sailing San Diego. For some reason, San Diego is filled with a bunch of passive aggressive sailors. They intentionally will tac right in front of a power boat, just to enforce their known “right of way”. That does not fly in SoFlo. Those South Americans will make their own boating rules, which put any boat slower than theirs at the bottom of any pecking order. You just need to watch some Haulover videos to see that I am telling the truth. Here, at times…… it’s whatever goes….goes! The closer you get to Miami, the more likely you are to have another boat go starboard to starboard with you…… at speed.

Not knowing the exact circumstances of that waterway and it's navigable boundaries, it appears to me the P-boater could have easily given that young lady more leeway and was simply being intentionally rude. Otherwise, why the video of his actions ?
It also appears to me, given the design of the boat and sail, there's other similar ones behind in the distance and possibly others in front, as if it was a club event or race.
I also believe this young lady learned a couple of lessons. One being boat handling, I'd imagine next time in a similar situation, she'll steer a different tack and secondly, power boaters have just created a new future enemy, who would be inclined to author or support anti-powerboating legislation.

If I were a water LEO and observed this act that could be considered "Aggressive" in real time, I'm fairly certain I'd be wanting to have a chat with the skipper of the powerboater as to what his intentions were, given he was filming his behavior.

Yes, I grew up boating the oft congested waters of Lake Arrowhead, Newport Harbor, then later both Mission Bay and San Diego bays. The worst I encountered was during the mass proliferation era of Hobie Cats, those bastards were like skate boarders blowing through crowds on a sidewalk. 🤬
