We were coming back from pirates yesterday in my Miller jet. We were on the river almost back to the lake when some asshole who obviously has more money than boating experience decided it would be cool to pass us at about 10 feet away doing over a hundred in his orange M35.

You drenched my boat with your spray and woke up my son who was sleeping in the front seat while my wife was holding him. Scared the hell out of them.

The river was empty, no need for this kind of dickhead asshole move.

I dig watching you rich assholes running at fast speeds, but please keep it safe and keep your distance.

I have boated my whole life. Things like this never use to occur. People are just assholes everywhere. Boating, driving, in the bank, at the grocery store and so on.

What happened to common courtesy and just being nice?

This is exactly the problem. It's everywhere. Happens weekly, some asshat cuts you off or passes you on the right in a right turn only lane then cuts you off you get pissed honk at them then you get the finger as if you did something wrong.

No respect. Not taught to them and they're not teaching it to their own.

I've had that happen almost every time I've cruised to pirates or Topac , because of that behavior , I'm sure a speed limit will be applied and enforced soon . I like speed as much as the next guy , but there's a time and place .

Not cool at all.:thumbsdown

10 feet at anything near that speed is extremely dangerous and uncalled for. Operator should be heavily fined and face removal from the water. Not to mention having his ass kicked.:grumble:

I heard an owner of an orange DCB was cited coming out of the mouth of the river heading north off the lake for passing to closely to another boat. I heard it was a reckless or something like that ???

I know there have been a bunch of DCBs that have orange but I'd hate to think it was the same guy.

That said - when you are passing it seems like a safe distance. When you are being passed - it's sudden and surprising.

Same thing happened to me last weekend. Won't name boat or color. Narrow section of river heading south towards the Gorge. I was passing a toon boat on his left with plenty of space. I was doing about 50 or so, then all of a sudden a cat blasts between both of us, cuts across the toon's wake and dodges in front of me. Sprayed the crap out of my boat.

I've never seen that before. Completely unnecessary. About 8 people onboard said boat, waving and having a good time, but what the heck?

This is a call out thread :thumbsup

All orange with some other colors? Name on the back or couldn't see it?

Totally reckless and uncalled for. There is no reason for a operator, rich or poor, big boat or small boat to pass that close. You should never lose sight of the river in front of you because of another boats roost from his jet or propeller's. What if a opposing boat cuts behind the boat that passed you, they can't see you, you can't see them, and BOOM you have a head on because someone is in a big hurry to pass you. It amazes me people cannot back off the throttle, get a better line and proceed. There are a lot of big cats on the water now running well beyond 140-150. Insurance is relatively easy to get now on those. That hasn't always been the case.

One bad accident up river will likely bring a lot of attention right back to a wakeless speed or the beginning of a speed limit on sections of the lake, then the entire lake.

Well Jeeze, according to some on RDP (not in this thread -- yet -- ), you should feel special that you were singled out for such "Awesomeness".

The fact that you're focusing on the safety of yourself, wife and young son, shows a complete lack of appreciation for the blessing of "Cool" that was bestowed upon you.

Damn man, don't you know, that DCB spray is friggin Holy Water, this was a baptismal, not a scary near death experience.

Next time try to relax, just go with it, raise your arms and pump them vigorously up and down, while screaming, "Faster, Closer, Faster, Closer"

Sure he could have easily steered clear, but trust me, a DCB passing at 50' to 100' feet away, isn't nearly as orgasmic, just ask an owner, he'll scream it to the worshiping crowds.

Besides, it's already been clearly established, that nothing can go wrong and that any fear from such a close encounter of the 'Cat Kind' has been deemed irrational.

It's also been stated by those in the know, that getting passed at 100 mph or more, is much safer than let's say 50 mph, when they're much more likely to roll over.

It's rare when we're boating that we're offered up the proper stimuli to Rub One Out, unless of course we're getting buzzed by a wakeboard boat full of topless college sweeties.

Seems your irrational safety concerns ruined a perfect DCB moment, hopefully next time you can have your head screwed on properly and immediately grab your rod.

River Dave will drop in and declare you a big coward and that if you think that was something, drag your pussy ass to Parker for the day, you ain't seen nutin yet :D

Yeah I know, I'm being a total asshole and will be properly reprimanded by the RDP enforcers.

But between you and I, I've been buzzed and sprayed twice this year by these elitist cocksuckers

and I know your boats and well, Karma comes in many forms :finger

Unlike some on here, I get exactly where you're coming from :thumbsup

Next time, please include in your complaint if the occupants were wearing life jackets, Grad is conducting research on the subject for submission to Congress :D

I wasn't on the water yesterday but Friday and Saturday there was a ton of traffic. Maybe some of the bigger cats could have slowed down, but close passes were the only option. I posted about my weekend. A lot of fun but very busy and I'll have to say dangerous as well. Launching early, beaching, and getting off early was a good choice for us. I hope none of the passes I made were too close but w all the traffic it was get beat up from trying to be nice or make my pass and get to my beach.

'New Age' proper boating etiquette recommends passing as many as possible on the side opposite of your intended destination, then once barely past them and parallel to your destination, immediately cut across their bows, while rapidly decelerating and throwing up a huge wake for their boating pleasure :D

For the record, I've never heard you come across as an careless boater :thumbsup

This weekend was defensive boating. I had my mom and son with me so I just wanted to make sure we were out of harms way. The water was too rough to do any real boating. I tried to make a couple speed runs but the boat wouldn't stay in the water [emoji16]

I love the sarcasm[emoji3]

I didn't get a chance to see if jackets were being worn. My boat was louder than his. By the time I saw him, he was right next to me.

I understand the crowds, but this was Monday at about 5 pm. River was empty, this was nothing more than a dickhead hey look at me in my overpriced boat move. [emoji23]

I keep posting on here about the way these guys drive on the river with these huge boats its totally unnecessary. Ive been on the water since 1971 and love nothing more then boating. I want to enjoy needles and parker so I bought a day cruiser just for that but the more and more I here of this crap the less I want to go boating anymore. I don't need my family hurt over some dip shit showing off for no reason in a boat that should be run on a large lake or ocean. This really gripes my ass!

Maybe they were practicing for a poker run.

This sort of makes me want to peel of the DCB stickers from my 24 extreme and put Ultra 247XS stickers instead.

This is the type of behavior that brings rules and regulations to our lakes and rivers.

Yep. Gives the other side evidence to prove their case

Total BS move. Just no excuse for it

All the jet boat owners are gonna have their head on a swivel now and roost all the big orange boats coming up on them lol. It'll be fun to see how they feel about it

My buddy owns an Orange F29, but doesn't sound like something he would do.

Be carful what you say abut jets on here. My wife just ordered some RDP t-shirts and they have a 19 Daytona jet on them! I knew Dave likes jets.

You sure it's a Jet and not a v-drive? ;) :D

Something to consider guys.. A speed limit has been discussed in several internal e-mails amongst the UFSWS agency. Those e-mails were recovered by the newspaper and AlexJ through the Freedom of Information act.

The more you guys talk about a speed limit the more likely it is to happen. The USFWS is on here (more than just SRice) and are reading intently. I have been asked by the agency to post a "Q&A" form to the public today by the agency so they can prepare the second draft of their Compatibility Determination for the refuge.

I do not believe we need a speed limit in the refuge.. I believe that a very small % of boaters are doing these acts, that small % of boats needs to straighten their group out asap.

Sounds like the same guy they were looking for earlier in the summer. I know they got a name and rangers spoke to him. They were asking everyone of us coming off the water if we knew who he was (on this particular July day). No good for any of us when someone is on the water pulling these kind of moves.

I was in Coronado with the family this weekend... Boat was in the shed.

I was gonna say I thought your boat was up at Powell right now..

End of the day, I'm not sure it's a good idea to go tracking down the actual boat because then shit gets "personal" and anger ensues etc.. I will say I don't think it was a M35, but more than likely an M31 mistaken for a 35 (they look pretty damn similar).. There's quite a few variations of orange 31's running around at any given time.. End result who cares, hopefully the guy that did it reads the thread and thinks twice about doing it again.

X2.... We may debate a couple things here and there, but totally agree with this. That's why I didn't even say what manufacture boat or color splashed us last week. Like you said, end result, who really cares as long as maybe he reads this and thinks twice next time. :thumbsup
