Been going to the delta couple times a year for 50 years. Been through discovery bay a lot, still amazed by that aerial shot how many packed in their.

Theirs another development not far from disco we boated thru last year that must have failed during the recession. Docks sitting on the bank and floating, roads started, levees put in, room for probably 100-200 houses. Would think with the economy it would be resurrected.
That would be Bethel Island. Yes the builder did run out of money, and so far as of last summer the build remains the same. Damn shame.

Yeah that boat will do just about anything Paul wants it to. Really a neat boat.
And yes that’s Rob. Unfortunately engine trouble put Rob on the trailer early, but we had a great run prior to that.

For those of us that haven't been on water like that, how big of swells, rollers...whatever you call them, were out today? The only time there seemed to be any movement was cutting the wake...and not mucho_O

If you’ve been to powell they were tour boat size. Obviously not the whole way. The video shows a smooth piece of the run. But there were several sections that would air the props out for a quarter mile or so at a time. Wasn’t crazy though.

That's a great event. One of my all time boating trips was the day before the Big Cat Run in 2006 or so. A group of about 15 boats left from Discovery Bay for lunch at Sam's Cafe in Tiburon, then for a run under the Golden Gate bridge, around Alcatraz and back. We stopped to check out the mothball fleet in Suisn Bay on the way back. I think t was a total of around 180 miles. The water under the Golden Gate was some of the roughest I've even been in - We went just far enough to get under the bridge and then turned back.

The mothball fleet was definitely cool. I guess it’s a lot smaller now then it used to be but still cool to get up close to big ships like that. It’s definitely a different kind of boating out here, but fun to see all the stuff you can access from the water.

Bully getting some good seat time prior to his being completed. It will be fun to watch him dialing it in when he gets it.

I assume because the delta is fresh water running in the bay and then back to the delta doesn’t really have any bad repercussions because the delta water will just clean all the salt out of the motors?

My grandfather, Earnest Mohr was the tugboat captain that put the original Mothball Fleet in their final resting spot there. You are right about it being much smaller now, there was probably 4 times as many ships there at one time. He was a tugboat captain on the Bay, he died when I was 6 years old, barely remember him but many great stories from my dad.
My dad had a love for boating as well, I'm sure it's in the family blood. Todd

White/Purple boat next to the Nordic is that custom, lightweight, cut down Skater. Very cool set up that started out with the 400ROS motors.

When I did my long trip from Discovery Bay to the Golden Gate bridge, the water was really rough, and we were taking a good amount of spray over the bow in my 34' V bottom. We all noticed that the taste of water went from salty near the golden gate to less salty and eventually to fresh water once we got back into the delta. We all gave our boats a complete wash down once we got back to Discovery Bay to clean off the salt water, but no need to flush the engines since they were running fresh water for a long time on the return trip.

Awesome pictures! I haven't gone to the Delta since I moved back to Phoenix due to the long tow, but every year when I see pictures from this event it makes we want to get back out there. Some of my best boating memories are from the delta.

This was my first time. It’s very cool to see how people in different areas enjoy the water [emoji1303]

Right on Dog. Is that Shell, Valero, Rodeo or maybe Golden Eagle/Avon? I spent a few years with Contra Costa doing power line maintenance in Bay refineries. Refineries are whole different universe.
