I would like here back from people that owed a nordic 29 deck boat. Im having alot of issues with speed for this boat . I have a 600 mercury racing motor and the xr racing drive with a 26 pitch. I have tried a 28p and 30p but nothing really changes on speed. This is a brand new 2020 boat. I can only get the speed up to 53 mph with 4 kids, wife, and myself. We total about 580 pounds altogether. We probably have another 400 pounds in all of the storage cabinets.
This boat went 79 mph with 40 gallons of gas in it and one person driving. Then it went 76 with full tank of gas and storage compartments all filled and one person driving. I was not doing the driving. The only time I've seen it over 60 is when I was at a lake with the elevation of 4600.
I would love to get some feed back of what motor you have in yours and speed you get out of it with just one person and then with people in the boat.
Thanks

What RPMs are you seeing when you're running at 53 MPH vs when it did 79 MPH?

Yup. Just read the original thread, It'll be interesting to see what it was. We will be in the market soon for a Nordic deck and were curious about power options.

I had a 29 Nordic deck, 600 stage 3 whipple, Ran a 30 bravo one. Two people in the boat at 6000 RPM it ran 80 MPH......Tried different props that was my top speed.
Re-search speed on these boats , Not a lot of info on these. Cruising speed is why i sold it, 4000 RPM at 47 MPH, and yes i know how to trim the boat !

The Nordics are a big boat. They take a lot of power to go. I would try a 5 blade prop. Maximus or a Hydromotive p5x. The stage 3 whipple upgrade will help. I heard the dual outboard setup runs well.

Any idea how the Nordic's take the chop/rough water vs other deck boats? I had a 28 Barracuda/Ultra but didn't like the fact that it would only fit 3 across the back bench. I also didn't care for the low freeboard. up front. I've also had a 29 Advantage X-Flight. I loved the roominess of the Advantage. The walk-thru and bow seating up front is awesome. But it's a very light boat and not a very good riding boat in rough water vs other boats I've had.

I really had high hopes for the 29 Nordic, but just 53 MPH with a 600 Merc is seriously disappointing.

OP might not be trimming the boat out properly. I have a 29 with a 500efi mild build with aluminum heads stage 2 Whipple running a labbed 28 XR drive and it runs mid 70's. they handle good in chop as long as your doing 45mph or faster, any slower the sponsons like to dig. I wish I had trim tabs to help balance the boat a little better.

That speed seems low or it’s under propped. Stock 8.2 MAG did 53 in my buddies 29 with a 21p prop. That was with full length double Bimini 3 adults and 3 small kids and the boat fully stocked with way more crap than he should have had in it. That was all it had since it was seriously underpowered. It rode way wet at that speed and would bow steer. My other friend just picked one up with a stage 3 600 and it rides really well once you get close to 60 on up.

The 29 deck rides really well in the rough as long as you’re able to stay about 45-50. IMO like stated above 35mph or less it likes to bow steer. The mph does not seem right to me. With twin 400s we have seen 93 mph.

Why they build them big tub,s with single power is beyond me , need more power , speed to pack some air otherwise you just got a pretty pontoon . How about 1100 or 1350 ?

So what is the best riding/performing of the Sport-deck single engine boats in the 28-29 food range?

Best riding is prob gonna be Nordic due to the deep sharp sponsons. 2nd I would say Howard. I am a Nordic owner though so that’s should tell you why I think that 😂😂

The Nordic is awesome in the rough stuff! I had a 26’ with a 565. Would do 82 with half tanks and normal gear. I spent a lot of time driving that boat by myself though to figure it out. Once you put 2 people in the front, you loose 10-12 mph instantly. OP is obviously not trimming the boat correctly and/or loading it correctly. Super sharp and deep sponsons, two steps with lifting strakes and. It likes to be trimmed pretty neutral. Trim too high and loose a lot of speed. That boats needs to be above 70 to pack some air and work right.

As for the Howard, awesome in the rough, and hard to beat when it’s set up right!
