New thread for new-er issue. Ok, new or continued issue. I have no spark. Not at At plugs , then I pulled coil wire, and put near ground, nothing there either. Swapped MSD, box with spare, checked keyed +12v to MSD. Checked main 12+v to box, checked ground was clean to MSD. I have a MSD PRO Billitt HEI distributor, it has a magnetic pickup, checking MSD WEBSITE, That say you can short and open the violet and green wire to send a 12v pulse to the coil. And spark the coil lead to ground. But these wires are not used on my setup? So that leaves the White, that’s use in a points system, I am confused. But it’s they way it always has been from Teague. I checked the new cap and rotor, still look fine. Does anyone know the pin out on the hei? There are 2 plugs, 1 with 2 wires and 1 with 4. The plug with 2 wires is pink and black, I assumed this is the pickup, shorting and open do not spark coil. I tested coil, it’s ok. I hate to do it because of $$$$’s, but I’m going to have to take it to someone it appears.

That is correct on how to test it. Unplug the 2 wire connector from the dist to the box.

you have to do it a few times sometimes to get it to actually do its thing.

I wont be in town for a few weeks, but I do have the MSD test tool for bench testing the boxes.

and if the coil does not spark?

so pardon if i'm explaining something you've already done, but just wanted to make sure out testing scenario is right...

msd box has power and ground
coil has been tested w/ dmm (in spec)
unplug between msd box and distributer
pull center wire off of dist, plug in a spark tester (or rig a plug w/ proper grounding)
ignition switch set to run
trigger msd box side of the 2 wire plug that goes to dist (on off on off on off on off)
you SHOULD get spark

if no spark, i'm thinking the box is bad.

Yes all the above done, and plugged in a spare msd box, nada, a real head scratcher. Something must be wrong in my testing.

Ok, grounding white wire on and off, we have coil spark. So assuming the Hall effect module in the distributor is bad?
Does anyone know what wire out of the hei distributor supply’s the ground to the white wire when the Hall effect module provides the signs for the closed circuit?

If the box is good, second most likely suspect is the module/pickup in the distributor

The culprit , This mother f-er. I think this thing has been a shitty operator since day one. First start of the day was always a starter motor cooker, turn, turn, turn, 3-4 minutes of cranking to get it to fire. After that, all day, a bump of the starter she would fire off. I installed this new pickup and module, set the gap to .020. Tested coil spark with distributor turning, a ok. (I WORKS !), Put everything back together, bumped the starter, and she ran. Hasn’t been started in a month, it never has started this ez. Now for water test tomorrow.

Water test A-Ok. The pickup and module cured:
no spark. And
Long time hard cold start issues,
and stall when cold at 2000 rpm.
Nice! Thanks for the update

I’m taking my boat to Teague in a couple weeks because it’s impossible to start and it’s running like shit and I haven’t been able to cure it, I’ll add this to the list of things to check. Glad I stumbled on this thread.
