Drives me crazy...

I had to retake a written test to get my DL when we moved. They gave me the drivers manual to "study" before the test. I looked and couldn't find anything on how to navigate 4-way stops. Lots of info on what constitutes impaired driving, but nothing on stop signs and ROW.

You want to see a cluster, just go watch when a busy signaled intersection is flashing red... 🤯

Multiple cars at a 4-way stop at the same time is enough to put some people in a state of panic….and I always get stuck behind the guy who’s afraid to go and lets everyone 2-3 cars deep go before he gets a blast of my horn then flips me off as he takes off.

Especially problematic when there's more than one lane going each direction, now it's not just a way but possibly 8-12, then toss in that so few bother to use their turn signals and you've got Lake Havasu on just about any day of the week.
The one thing I'd never seen before that might be unique to Havasu (Since I've never encountered it elsewhere) is this new left turn yellow arrow that remains for an extended time following a green arrow allowing you to still make your left if it's clear to do so.

Right of Way belongs to he who asserts it!
"Lugnut Rule" He with the most lugnuts has Right of Way. 🤣

When I was 29, I had to retake both the written and driving test. State of California felt I may have lost my mental acuity due to head injury. When I was 16, I was super arrogant, but passed with no problem. When I was 29, I was so nervous I almost puked. I passed no problem, but was scared to death. Good refresher course I think.

When I can, when I see someone waving me on, when they have the right of way. I just wait to see how long it takes for them to give up😀

Exactly. My wife says I’m an aggressive driver. I call it highly assertive. 😁
In the course of a day, I may drive anything from a Prius to a Peterbilt...It does cause me to hesitate at times 🤣

Realizing so many here on RDP are members of the "Damn, I'm so cool" club (My own son included ) and insist on running limo tint on your vehicle's front seat windows, but it's my opinion that it negatively impacts vehicular safety.
I believe that driver to driver visual contact is highly desirable and beneficial in that it provides a degree of confidence of knowing each other's intentions.
If I can't see that you're being attentive, or if you're looking at me, or if you might be waving some directive. If I can't see you, then I'm simply not going to treat you the same as if I could. That "Same" might include being more considerate in some situations where I might otherwise afford it.

As long as we're bitching, my other pet peeve is people that won't move out but maybe a foot or two into the crosswalk to make a lefthand turn. I've actually seen people not move at all and wait for a second light. I've seen people pull around them and waiting the middle of the intersection for it to clear to make their turn like you should. Saw one guy get out of his car and walk up to their window and motion for them to move. Now that Havasu has some intersections with flashing yellow turn arrows in left turn lanes, they can't figure those out either. I actually think this is more of a problem with younger drivers than old people.

Is that flashing yellow turn thing being used anywhere but Havasu ? Only place I've ever seen it.

I can't actually pinpoint where, but pretty sure we had them in Ca. before we left, actually think many states use them, maybe someone will chime in.

LaHabra, Los Angeles (not many yet) and a few others use them. I think they suck. You'll be see them more as cities update their equipment. I think they are being used as a reflection of driver ability/skill. A reminder of "you can turn but you have to pay attention to opposing traffic".
You'll also see more protected/permissive left turn signals- green arrow _yellow arrow_ green ball yellow red. Five sections on the signal head

We have them in Washington. I like them because the traffic engineer’s alternative for a left turn lane would be a solid red light.

The guy has it right and what I’ve always adhered to.

it’s used in Texas. I didn’t think anything of it when I moved here, having seen it in other states over the years. But, my Dad was tripped out over it when he drove out here. I’m not sure why there can’t just be a sign like in California (“Left turn yield on green”).

In areas where traffic doesn't tend to be rather regularly heavy, I think it's a great idea. Around here, it seems that with a more standard three color left turn signal, the yellow indicates that you're beyond the wait line, you're free to keep following others across through the light, regardless of how long it's be red --- or until another driver sideswipes your ass since he's anticipated the green and blows through barely slowing or jack-rabbits the start.
Not experienced enough with these flashing yellows to know if this mitigates or exacerbates this problem ?
Is the option for switching to a flashing yellow from a solid red controlled by traffic numbers or does it's usage not fluctuate ?

After recently taking a course here in AZ, its the person to the left that has the right of way. I then asked about left turners. I was always taught that the left turner at a 4 way stop went after the vehicles going straight through had cleared, similar to how making a left when a signal (non arrow) turned red. What I was told was that it was whoever got there first, meaning, its perfectly ok to turn left in front of someone going straight the opposite direction. That still seems wrong to me!!! I also think that all the left turn signals have created this change. Before the turn arrows were a thing, you waited until traffic cleared or the end of the signal cycle to make your turn. Now we have green arrows that let the lefts go first. That driving style then moves over to a 4 way stop. I cant tell you how many times someone has started their left in front of me and then panicked when they see me coming. Truth be told, dont stop and I wont hit you, just commit to your turn and clear the intersection so the rest of us can do the same.

Most intersections in Phoenix metro go to flashing yellow after green, nothing worse than waiting at a red left turn lane with no traffic coming at you. Just waiting for the lights to go through a complete cycle to get back to the green left signal. It's the thing that drives me the most crazy in Havasu, very few left turns go to flashing yellow. They should all do it with maybe the exception of the lights on 95. It is such a waste of time to wait at for a left turn with no oncoming traffic.

I certainly agree, just not accustomed to seeing these flashing yellows. Didn't realize they were so common in other places.
What infuriates me more is waiting behind somebody from somewhere not accustomed to making a right after coming to a stop if there's no oncoming.
Around here there's intersections that don't allow any right on a red, some governed by days and hours, others full time for some reason.

That's why cars are equipped with horns, a nice way to say "pull your head outta yo ass"

It's been proven, Round-a-bouts (traffic circles) are more effective than a 4 way and/or multi way stop. Mulberry and 95 seems like a good candidate.

Guess I'm recalling how prior to 1980, not all 50 states permitted it. Although now legal in all 50, it's voluntary, not mandatory.
So sure, I'll give em a toot, but if he or she chooses not to budge, it's his or her choice.
Laying on the horn for every drive who needs one of those "Pull yer head outta yo ass" wake up call, I'd have a dead battery. 🤣

I've noticed a new trend where someone that has arrived at the stop will wait for someone else approaching from the side to come to a complete stop before proceeding. There's been a few times where I just rolled the stop. I got tired of waiting on them to go. I think that probably just reinforces in their head the act of waiting for me to stop. I haven't done that in some time though. Figured it would end badly one day, either a wreck or a ticket.

What worse than a 4 way stop full of snowbirds?

A 2way stop intersection with 4 snowbirds thinking it's a 4way.🤣🤣

The old 4 way stop or commonly referred to around these parts as the Minnesota traffic jam.

The younger generation has absolutely no idea what the process or proper etiquette is for maneuvering one of these.

How about the new trend where when there is a fire truck, ambulance or cop with their lights on they just come to a complete stop. No pulling over to the right or anything, just slam on the brakes, even if they are part way thru an intersection.

Guess that could potentially prevent getting T-Boned by someone running the Stop Sign?

Id rather see a bridge there than a round-about. Make Mulberry go over the highway, or under. I do agree, that is one of the worst intersections in town.
