Hey gang,
Enjoy reading the trials and tribulations of Memorial weekend in Havasu and Parker but I don't see any posts of folks in Laughlin/ Lake Mojave. Used to be one our weekend haunts years ago but heard Laughlin is in in the toilet. Always liked launching out of Kathryns early and then hitting the casino in the evening....we would even take one day and run to Havasu from Laughlin on the river.

Laughlin is pretty sucky these days. Even the hotels that used to be nice like Harrah's and the Golden Nugget are dumpy. But it IS inexpensive. We used to do the same thing for many years. Launch at Katherine and stay in the casinos. That was exhausting! LOL Eventually, we got a park model and year-round slip at Katherine. That was the ticket. Good times, for sure. It was great because it's a larger lake than Havasu with less people using it due to the limited launch ramps. When I was little, we boat-camped on Mohave regularly.

I heard Laughlin was packed but I did not go see for myself. The lake was as dead as I’ve ever seen. Even if it wasn’t a holiday weekend it was dead. I didn’t wait more than 10 minutes to launch or retrieve all weekend and no problems getting a beach. It was weird

We camped at Cottonwood Thursday-Monday, same as last year. It was the busiest we have ever seen it. We did not go south of the basin, so I’m not sure about down there. I did see pictures on FB of the line to get in to Katherine’s going all the way back to the highway.

What day was that? We didn’t wait in line Saturday or Sunday. Saturday launched at 9 Sunday around 10. Pulled the boat out around 4 both days. Asked the ice guy in the marina and he said he’s never seen it so dead. Said they were busier last weekend 🤷‍♂️

That’s crazy! Maybe the pictures were old and someone was messing around. It was on the Lake Mohave Friends FB page.

Laughlin was dead considering it was a holiday. We played bingo at Edgewater on Saturday instead of boating. Sunday we golfed and it was dead there as well.
Nice family pics Vic👍🏻

I grew up on Mohave and that's "home" to me. It's closed though so no wonder there was nobody :) Havasu has more things to do and is better for partying and boating (e.g., racing people up and down river lol). But Mohave is much better for chilling on the beach I think. Havasu "chilling" is very fun but it's not really relaxing in the way Mohave is. Mohave is just you and your friends and what I imagine BVI and that type of boating is. Just straight up relaxing. I like to mix it up and do equal parts Havasu and Mohave. Parker is like Havasu in a way, as it isn't as relaxing for me because I'm afraid I'm going to hit a rockbar lol, or a surf boat will fugg up my boat when I'm on a dock or on the ball. But I've had some of the best times in Parker as well in the trailer parks with good friends! They are all good places

We used our private marina and launch ramp in our housing neighborhood and stay on the river between BHC and Willow Beach, We will hit Mohave on the non-holiday weekends for sure.

Needles was the same way. No lines at the marina, our neighborhood was fairly empty. The river above Pirates looked like a normal "off weekend", maybe even lighter. Joe Biden's economy has finally hit the vacation crowds

That was my thought. I didn’t really want to spend a bunch of money either this weekend but we kept it pretty simple and we needed the break so it is what it is

We noticed Friday afternoon that traffic heading out 8 East was mellow & really no motorhomes or boats. It was weird. Usually it's backed up with them & didn't notice them coming back either.

I told my wife it's probably a combination of the true boaters staying away from amatuer hour, and possibly gas & food costs. Still odd to me though.

Boated all four days Fri-Mon on Mohave. Saturday was the only busy day. Launched around 10:30-11am every day pulled off around 5 ish. No problem with parking and they are using golf carts to shuttle everyone back and forth to the docks It really wasn't that crowded. There was no line back to the highway that was last year. They also had all 4 entry lanes open into the park so there was really no wait. Lets see ate at the sushi restaraunt in Laughlin Sunday night it wasnt busy around 5:30. Gambled after at aquarius it was sorta busy the pai gow was $20 min and its normally $10. Me and GF won a few bucks and quit around midnight. Going back thursday night to do it again. Windiest day was friday and it wasn't bad I launched with GF all by myself.

How much of a "zoo" was it on the water in front of the casinos? Wife and I would run up and down that part of the river (down to Avi and back) many years ago but with the lake lice and Sea-Doo boats, it just got to dangerous. Totally understand about the "Chill factor" on Mojave, some great coves and Gasoline Ally was always just a fun place to hang and chat with other boaters.

It was pretty mellow on Sunday, but it was just after 5pm. The boat patrols were trailering their boats at that time too.

Davis camp wasn't completely packed like previous holiday weekends.

Edit: There wasn't a wait for a table at the Salt Grass, either

Sounds nice, I wonder if the economy is having an impact. Although, judging from the pictures posted on RDP, Havasu was popin like always.

Used to do Katherines years ago, the Rangers are too high strung for me, cops at the launch end of day is a no go. Havasu was pretty mellow compared to the last 4 years. People have more things to do, also inflation is finally starting to hit people in the pockets. I went to Sunday happy hour at Cha bones, pretty empty compared to previous years. Dining out was also not that busy.

THis is the main reason we stopped going as much as well. They sit there at the end of the day and corner evreyone that comes into the marina.
It got so ridiculous they would wave you over even if they had another already pulled up.

We usually go Mid May for a cove camping trip and last year we were just sitting on the beach watching them nail almost every boat coming into Katherines. Wasn't even a holiday. Maybe some law enforcement thing. I dont know but it happens more than not.

This is the ramp at lake Alan Henry SW of Lubbock Texas. On any given weekend the Texas DPS, Lubbock city police and the Texas game and fish will all post up right at the top of the ramp. Right in everyone’s way! They park right where you need to pull to make a strait shot at one of the lanes. As you can see the ramp is super long and steep and people get stuck at the bottom on a regular basis. On holiday weekends they will hold up scorecards like sporting event judges. One year on memorial weekend I had some boat sodas, so I sat in the passenger seat while my buddy drove. He was nervous because he had never trailered a boat with twins. I just gave him commands from the passenger seat and the Hallett went right up on the trailer. My other buddy had a 4x4 1 ton. We went right up without spinning a tire and the cops all gave us a 10. That’s great guys! Thanks! Now get out of the way! It’s like a site six audience but cops.

We are heading out to MOHAVE on the 6th for our annual adult trip and first time on Mohave with the group. We've been to MOHAVE a few times in the past, going to slip the boat and stay at The Aquarius. Hope it won't be busy .
