Over the road guys. Yeah I can see it.

Vocational not so much.

With all the new standards started by carb and adopted by the EPA coming in 2027 you’re gonna see a large consolidation of trucking industry where only big companies can afford to purchase these trucks

It’s hard to find Americans that will work for slave wages.
I was going to make the same comment. If people understood how in control the govt is with every single aspect of trucking they would be shocked. You are physically told when to sleep, or eat. When and where you must always be. How you must do this or that for free. Tickets are insane, rear facing cameras. And finally all day everyone you deal with hates a trucker. Shippers, receivers, cars, cops, truckers. No thank you.

I just went and got my CDL permit, and interestingly enough I'm having a hard time finding a driving school/instructor that will help me with getting the required behind the wheel hours before I go take the driving test. The schools want the full tuition (>6k) to sit through the whole class, but a lot of that instruction is for people with no experience that don't have their permit yet. Happy to pay someone for their time to practice the walk-around and do some instructional driving, but no luck so far.

There is a school here, $2450 (close to that anyway), 5 days, and you leave with a license. I don't know if this is everywhere but schools here are allowed to test you and you leave with a paper to take to the DMV and get the physical license.

I will add that as an end of line receiver, I fucking hate truck drivers and have for 30+ years. Had to deal with their bullshit cowboy attitude so many times over the years on construction sites, doesn't seem to matter if they were wearing a cowboy hat, turbin or Black Lives Matter type headgear. Same self-entitled dip shit mentality, every one of them.

75% of the car haulers can’t speak English. Several of them hand you their phone to type what you want to say. They conveniently never fill a damage report out. So the dealer gets stuck with the damage repair. Not cool.

I'm still on the road, hauling fuel every night to Havasu from Vegas or Phoenix. All you see is 3rd world country truckers now. I'm convinced half these guys are trafficked into the industry with a promise of prosperity. These guys can't be getting legitimately trained and tested for a license especially in California.

Oh well if you see me out on the 40 late night throw me a wave, I try to show some love whenever I see boaters and Harley's.

No not really.

Except cattle haulers still have some in the cab.
9 out of 10 truck drivers we deal with out here are 'Merican. But these guys are delivering specialized equipment on flat beds so my sample size of 1 might not be valid.

Going to Havasu from Phoenix last Friday for the poker run, we stopped at the gas station in Vicksburg. My wife made a comment about the Indian truck drivers. Two minutes later, we came up on a truck accident that just happened. Semi ran into the back of a pickup that had a service bed on it. Surprisingly the semi was way worse off.

Not to mention those fucktard truckers driving in the #2 lane on a 4 lane highway... That lane is for trucks with boats, 5th wheels and trailers.

Driving around the nation for the past four years, I've noticed that I-10 and I-40 are filled with Paki and Indian drivers. I-70/80/90? Very few. Just an observation. I remember when it used to be that the truckers were the best drivers on the road. Many of the long-haul drivers were owner-operators. My uncle was one and made pretty good money. They were courteous to other drivers, especially if you were driving a pickup/motorhome/trailer. Driving in the southern states these days, I dread when a trucker comes up behind or beside me.

Very few are professional anymore, I drive a truck everyday all around LA and seeing what they get away with is amazing.

I started driving them in 1976. The industry was quite different back then. Drivers had pride in what they did (mostly) and were professionals. I couldn't imagine what it is like now. Of course we had 130 million less people in the country back then too so the roads were nowhere near as crowded as they are today. Also no automatic transmissions then either. You had to learn how to jam gears. Now it is too easy to drive one.

I miss all the old school truck stops too.

My family grew up with trucking. Owning dirt and heavy haul companies in San Diego. My uncle use to haul cross county and said the rates in the 70's and 80's are the same they are today as they were essentially govt mandated. Add in the cost of newer mandated equipment in many places, high fuel, insurance, etc there is a reason large trucking companies are going bankrupt every day. I got my CDL when I was young and had so much fun tearing up the roads in San Diego. Many times I wish I could go back but there is a reason the foreigners are all doing it now.

... but there is a reason the foreigners are all doing it now.

In Canada, this reason is (1) employers of temporary foreign workers get subsidized to pay the immigants they bring over. (2) commercial licences from other countries are often recognized for up to a year so these guys can hit the road very very quickly (3) the owners of the trucking companies have their cousin in Bangalor issue a CDL as these 'new Canadians' get on the plane headed for Toronto or Vancouver. (4) because these guys are 'new Canadians', their additional education (licence upgrading) is paid for by the federal government.

There is no chance a non 'connected' trucking company can survive this scam.

Many of the reasons I just said to hell with it and retired. Just not worth the aggravation anymore.

I drove in LA traffic for 26 years while working for the city of LA. Much of that tenure was commuting to the Harbor Div.,

I always assume the "container crowd" drivers were shit, until I discovered the "derka-derka" drivers polluting merica's highways.
