Nitto Trail Grapplers M/T vs. Toyo OpenCountry M/T

so I need to get new treads for the F-350, tire guy just put these new Nitto's on his Jeep .... Swears by them, but I've run the last 2 sets with the Toyo M/T with uncompromised performance.... so who here has run the Nitto's and what is your opinion? vs the Toyo's? the price's are basically the same. What's your thought ? Nitto's? Toyo's?

I think it is completely a preference on the look. I was once told, by two different tire shops, that they are made in the same factory, and are the same company. I am not stating this as fact, just what I heard.

There basically the same tire.....

Nitto is the newer design and weighs a a couple pounds less. Honestly there both great tires and you can't go wrong with either.

Aren't the TOYO's Imported vs the Nitto's made in the USA ?

I run the nittos on my f250. love them fairly quiet and no issues. think getting about 40-45k out of them. The only thing I will say is keep the air psi up in which ever you put on it. This last time the shop put them on the only put 40 psi in the tire truck was quite squirly. I put them up to 70 psi made a huge difference in ride quality. They recommend 80psi max.

On the wifes yukon I just put the Falken Wildland on those have been great so far at 8k miles.

I get good pricing from the local tire shop as this year they have put 5 sets of tire on in the last 6 months.

I have the Nitto's on my F350 now, awesome tire.

If I had to choose I'd flip a coin. Both are great.

As other have posted, Nitto and Toyo are the same company, and they have plants in the US and Japan that produce these tires.

I think they're nearly interchangeable, but in some cases the load capacity differs.

I was gonna get the Nittos because of availability, but got the Toyos instead because they had a higher capacity in size 12.5x17x35.

Nitto's on the last two trucks, quiet and good wear, these have 10000 on them and I'm gonna rotate next week.
Do your self a favor and go to Tirecrawler.com it saved me $425 on a set of four :thumbsup

We put the Nitto's on my sons truck, at the time i was in between tires.... I wanted to try them but stuck with te BF'G's.
I let my son be the genie pig.
From what I've seen it's a great tire, we're happy with them and best of all, they wear evenly.:thumbup:

Those aren't the M/T's in the picture, I need the 10 ply E rated tire for the weight I pull, along with off road capability in the Sand, when pulling the Fiver on deflated tires, have had excellent usage on the Toyo, today while at the tire shop, my Tire guy tells me he loves these new Nitto's but he has them on a Jeep Rubicon 1/2 the weight of my F-350, and I pull 3 times the weight of the Rubicon, and I know with the Toyo's I get NO SIDEWALL flex with the heavy load of the 5th Wheel, so the Nitto's are basically $50.00 more than the Toyo's....Just would like input from someone who's pulled heavy load on the NITTO TRAIL GRAPPLER M/T I use 12.5x35x18 tire....thanks Wedge

Wedge I run the nittos E rated M/T no problems 285 75 17 about a 34" tire. I pull my 30 Toybox or whatever else ends up behind me. When I got pricing the Toyos were more I was going to try them but stuck with the nittos

Wedge I have the exact tire in a 17 inch rim. E rated made in USA. Can't compare to Toyo as I've never had them. They so far a wearing better and posed to last longer than the ProComps I used to run. Only load I typically pull though is about 5000 pounds of boat a couple miles to the launch ramp so I can't help you there. They do look good too.

I've had General's, Toyo's, BF Goodrich and now Nitto (all A/T) on our Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 DRW. The Toyo's were the least on mileage. All load E. The Nitto have the best ride and no sway around turns. I buy all my tires from John at Tucker Tire Co. in Laguna Niguel. Four months ago, I paid $1200 for 6 tires (mounted, balanced, free rotation, Out the door). I run the Nitto Terra Grappler LT285/75R17 E. John gave me a coupon for another $80 and they sent me a pre-loaded credit card within 30 days. There is no way anyone can beat that. They have another store in Covina. 818 W Front St, Covina, CA 91722 (626) 332-1142. Give them a call.

I have run the Toyo's on the last 3 trucks and had great results plus less expensive than the Nitto's
Check out treadepot.com

These are the E rated All terrains on a 2500HD
The M/T are louder than the A/T

I run the Terra Grapplers and don't care for the look. I've got a lead on 6 Trail Grapplers on wheels (20") for $1,500.00. The tires have 10K on them.

First set I had were the Terra Grappler All-Terrain's... I know why your getting ride of them :D :D :D
They didn't last 25k and were nosier than the Toyo's I have now with 38K on them....

I have the same except A/T. Our truck weighs 11,000 with no passengers because of all the detailing equipment my son has in the back. Does real good everyday. No problem towing any of our stuff either.

I haven't towed heavy with the Trail Grappler, but I do tow heavy with the Toyo MT's, and I know a bit about the Trail Grapplers.

These tires are both rated at 3,415 lbs in the size you need.

With the exception of the tread, the tire construction is nearly identical - 3-ply polyester casing with lots of rubber - because they're basically the same tire from the same tire manufacturer.

HOWEVER, due to the different tread pattern, each has a slightly different radial pull in the larger sizes:
Toyo MT's pull to the right.
Trail Grapplers pull to the left.

Dodge guys can compensate for the Toyo pull by putting a bit more pressure in the steering stabilizer.
I'm sure the Ford and Chevy guys have a similar solution.

IMHO if you're happy with the MT's, then you'll also be happy with the Trail Grapplers.

Here's what I tow...3,400 lbs pin weight, 35-inch Toyo MT's.
My setup tows awesome.

I was a diehard BFG guy until the last two sets I had were Junk. I went with the Toyo MT based on the recommendations of this board and after 25,000 miles they still are wearing very well. My trailers about 13,000 loaded and it's a bumper pull 37 feet total length.

I have seen hundreds of sets of Toyo's wear and they seem to be pretty good. I have had 4 sets of 22" Nitto's and they will respond better to a Ford it seems. I hated them on my Dodge dually but it could have been a separate issue. Never confirmed the issue. I simply don't like the aggression of the Toyo MT and the AT is ugly to me. To be honest if I could get away with it I would run Nitto 420's.

there great in my book granted mostly freeway miles.

I really don't think you can beat them
granted I run them to the end and the get noisy
towards the end cant beat them.

I have run Toyo M/T 35's on my last 2 trucks. I make it a point to rotate my tires every time I change the oil...got 60,000 miles out of my last set. I like the look and they are extremely quiet for the tread pattern.

Great mileage.... Best I've done is about 46K, I get new tires and sell the used Toyo M/T's, Here's a pick of my Rig, about 16,500 loaded... THE RIG.jpg

It's 71' from front bumper to the drive on the boat....:D :D :D

We usually recommend the Toyo M/T because they have very good off-road performance, with a quieter on-road ride. Also, they typically last longer than the Nitto M/T, even though they are made by the same company.

Sounds about right. I have to find my invoice. It's been a while. I want to say I was about 11 or 12 tops. with alignment. I get my oil changes and repairs done there and caught the final hours of a weekend sale they were trying to beat other stores in a contest so I kept playing the "I Ned to think about it" card and the deal got better.

I posted this in a recent thread. Tucker Tire is the best Tire Store we have ever done business with. We go to the Laguna Niguel location and they are the most professional people to do business with. Their prices are the best we have seen. Flat out, the best service in Orange County.

Update.... So my guy has been checking with his warehouse's.... No luck, NO TOYO Open M/T available... so he called Toyo directly..... Per Toyo, the Open Country M/T will not be available until October 2014.... any around are old stock, and the NEW DESIGN won't be out until then, someone has them some where, but they are now old style, I wonder what the new ones bring to the table, oh well, can't wait any longer... the new tires are ordered and go on Tuesday... Nitto Trail Grappler M/T 12.50 x 35 R18 .... :D :D :D

I went with the Toyo AT2's in the same size, switched from the Toyo MT's. Ride is great and very quiet. Wonder what they are changing on the mt's

I like the AT 2 ..... But need the 10 ply.... E rated, they handle they weight of the fiver better then the D rated, no sidewall flex with the 10 ply's... wedge

I just went out and checked. 3415lbs for single rear and load E. I switched lifts and tires so I can pull my Cat with this this truck. No longer have the f450 or f350 so this one has to handle the big loads. Only have 4 river trips on them so cant say how they wear yet. I am very happy with them and launch and retrieve no need to put it in 4.

Any word on how the new Nitto's are? apparently both the Nitto's and Toyo's are made at the same factory, and right now Nitto's paying for factory resources... Wedge

If anyone is wondering...Tread Depot had a lot of Toyo MT's as of last week. They don't show up on their website, but if you call they showed some inventory.

This info is from an off-road forum I'm on, a few guys clamored on it and got 35 and 37 inch Toyos.
