I know some of you follow NHRA drag racing and know that a Wally trophy means a lot to us racers. 2018 ended great for us with my son winning the ANRA championship in B-Gas and 2019 is looking even better!!
We started off this year winning the first West Coast Hot Rod king of the hill race and just won a Wally at the NHRA Heritage nostalgia race in Sacramento this weekend. I'm beyond proud of what my son has accomplished at 23 years old.
The best thing I ever did was getting out of the car and letting him drive it!!
Sorry, just wanted to brag a little.

That's awesome, congrats!!!

My dad has 2 Wally's, and they are one of his most prized possessions, besides the car.

Oh, got it. I work with Steve, he does our farming, he's partners with our owner and brings some of his fruit to us. Congrats again!
He's a great guy!! We've been racing together for a long time.

Congrats to him!! They aren't easy to get, even in the sportsman category like us.

Same he is in the sportsman category as well. Just a bracket car, 66 Nova runs low 10's.

I was never a competive (legal) racer...but every garage dwelling, bench racing Speed Racer kid knew what a Wally meant, and what it is. To us, that's better than any prize buck mounted on the wall, and pretty much "Shrine Worthy". Your kid gets the trophy, but anyone involved in keeping the car rolling deserves a pat on the back too.

I'd be ordering a marble column to put it on...crown jewel kind of setup;)

Way to go. A fun father and son family team project wins a Wally! Congratulations and celebrate, you’ve all earned it. Now, go win some more Wally’s.

Nice!

Friend of mine in Alaska worked nonstop for years to field a small block super stock Chevelle.
Then took a year off to points race in Division 7, then managed to win Brienard (I think it was Brienard) for a National Event Wally.

Winning any class at a division race of any kind is an outstanding feat!
Hell, just managing to field a class legal car is an achievement in itself.
Congrats!!

It's difficult to win in all of the lower classes. There's a bunch of very competitive cars and skilled drivers.

Taking home a Wally is a great accomplishment. Congratulations!

It’s almost impossible.
EVERYONE is seemingly perfect on the tree, every car is seemingly .001 off index reset.
At National events when everyone is in the pits watching the fuel teams thrash I’m on the rail watching the sportsman classes.

The story is always the same for every pair.

“Here’s 8 time division champ and 2 time World Champ Joe Somebody going up against 5 time Division 6 champ and points leader John Doe”...and there’s still 4 rounds of racing left...

When I was racing pro light heads up 10.90 (Division 7) in my Nova I had my brake lights wired to a button on the steering wheel...

I thought maybe you’d be at Bakersfield again so I was looking for the nova but never saw it, we were out testing a friends Camaro.

Nice!!
We don't run the summit series anymore, mostly just do the nostalgia races. Hit me up if you guys go to the ANRA or west coast race in a couple months.

Scary, seems a safety issue. Never heard a class that wouldn't "allow" them. Wild.

Picture was blurry, thought I saw a set on her.

No bars, can’t run them in the class. But yeah we have to limit the front end a bit.

No. shit.

While it's getting easier to build a big inch turbo motor that'll last all season, the more difficult part is getting the power down.

Racer J's car is seriously hooked up in the photo above, and is gonna trip the lights in a big f*cking hurry. That chassis works.

I've always been a huge fan of the gas classes. When I first became aware of drag racing and bought a subscription to Hot Rod, the gasser wars were in full swing. These two A/G cars, the Stone, Woods, and Cook ’41 Willys and Big John Mazmanian's '41 Willys, were the stuff of legend. My copy of the magazine arrived during the first week of every month, and I was at the curb waiting for the mailman when it showed up.

Racer J's Nova brings back those memories. Its cool factor is off the charts.

All stock suspension with cal tracks, it’s a 565 with two units.
Cal Tracks are pretty damn cool. I have been out of the stuff for quite a while...15+ years. Two years ago I was tasked with doing a 350/TH400 swap in an S10. Did an 8.8 with 4.10's out of an Exploder with the Cal Tracks stuff the customer brought me. I set them up like the instructions said, thinking they were just modern traction bars. Holy shit! 1 kit and a trans brake, that shitbox ran a high 10 off the trailer. Times had changed. Leaf springs are no longer a major limitation. The guy sold it before he got it really sorted, but a real eye opener for us aging street racers.
