Top-five NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle Angie Smith is recovering from two broken feet and severe road rash following her qualifying accident Saturday at World Wide Technology Raceway during the AAA Midwest Nationals.

I have seen so many bike runs over the years that It seems weird to me that I never thought about the front wheel locking up at 198 mph. Do these bikes have any kind of ABS System ? I am just glad she didnt hit her head hard. Get well soon Angie.

Seeing her motionless face down on the track after tumbling 100 yards made my heart sink. She was going 198 through the lights and it looked like the front brakes locked up. Get well soon!

Just to let everyone know, NHRA confiscated Angie's bike after the wreck as they do with all racecars/bikes after accidents. Since then, we've been told three different times per the NHRA tech department that we've done everything they've asked for... including pulling data out of the bike and getting release papers from the hospital. We were happy to do all of this and we were told the bike would be released back to us and they still have yet to release the bike back to us.

Now, we don't know where the bike is at because it's been "taken off property" and we've got a big problem with that. No time have I ever known NHRA keeping anything more than a day after a wreck and why they would want to keep Angie's bike after a wreck is puzzling to me. A Pro Mod crashed yesterday and it was released to the team last night.

If anyone can help us locate this bike...we've asked NHRA for reasoning and all they have said is "legal" with no other explanations beyond that.

I have tried calling the president of the NHRA, Glen Cromwell, and I have received no return phone call. I'm just trying to figure out what's going on.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated. I was told we could get the bike after POMONA. This is not the time to confiscate bikes for long periods of time when we are in the heat of a championship battle and we could very well use the salvageable parts from the crash for our bikes. Parts alone are hard to get quickly right now. My wife is in a lot of pain right now and this is just adding to it.

Crappy that the bike is MIA, but she's able to stand with a little help, and at home. I know the competitive nature says get the bike and the parts, get up and running...but I know there also has to be some triumph, even with the losses on the track. Coming home, broken and bloodied even, is still a huge win

Dammit. I get choked up anytime I see a racer sustain serious injuries. You chase away those thoughts just before it's time to go, but the reality is still there.

I hope the pain is manageable and she heals completely.

The number of people he's helped throughout the years is amazing.
It's mostly kept on the down low.
That said...
I expect him to be out of Nascar within a couple of years.
When Ford put the kibosh on him hiring Kyle Larson it really pissed him off& Smoke doesn't do well within their new woke political confines.
He's loving the whole drag racing deal.
Rumor is he's selling the All Star sprint car series he owns to Kyle Larson &WoO champion Brad Sweet.

Thank god she slid with the bike at first.
I’d guess she scrubbed off 50 MPH or so just hanging on and sliding at first.
The difference between a controlled tumble and all out rag doll. That’s experience at play.

As far as Stewart, I didn’t really know much about him outside of sprints. But he has shown me nothing but positive input since he came on the nhra scene.
I’m all in for TSR and even cheer for Hagan and Pruitt these days!

You know, I reflected on some of that at the “big race” last month. I’m a 2 race a year guy, I enjoy it, but not like I used to. As I watched what everyone wore I just shook my head. Be it Lee, Tiff, or really anyone that was in the circle I never let a bike go down without checking the basics. The chain slap was kinda the first “ah fuck” the Loui stacked it up and we get even more serious. The bikes weren’t as fast, and for all intents and purposes, were more solid. Vans, cutoffs, a neck brace and a helmet are all most wore that I saw. I’m not going to tell these people what they can/can’t wear, not my decision. I have a 3.11 and a 3.09 timeslip in my wallet right now that the “hired gun” was wearing nothing more than the above. Did I give the bike a FULL once over in the trailer before it went up, yep. Did I give it my standard run over in staging before it went to the line, yep. Dale seems unconcerned with the risk, so we send it.

I’m going to be in LOTO when the LA race happens in 2 weeks so I’m going to task Cory with my ritual. Bike lost 12 pounds and found a few HP. LA is always fast than Albany…. 2.99 isn’t out of the question.

"The chain slap"... she still has chain marks on her back and couple ribs that will never be the same! Funny thing is she was pretty excited about catching it after it hit her
