This is such a chill town. Small, quiet, and very old school. Not crowded at all. We just walked back from the town center and it feels very safe. Not a party town at all and I prefer that.

Didn’t take that many pictures today so I’ll get more tomorrow.

One of my favorite towns in Mexico. It feels like a real vacation every time I’ve been. No plans and just a relaxed atmosphere.

Went for a walk earlier this morning. Again, this place is absolutely dead lol, which is really nice. It’s a bit hot and humid this time of the year too which is expected.

We went down there many many years ago when it was just a fishing town for a bachelor party, the golf course was just getting finished but no hotel or anything over there. It was a lot of fun fishing but the night life was non existent, I found one place to go get some beers when we got back and they had about a 12" TV I asked to turn to the Laker game and one other my brother and I and a couple of the other guys went to actually had a few girls there(no vape pens back then) LOL. One girl got up on the bar to dance and ended up dancing right into the ceiling fan, didn't really hurt her so it was funny as hell. There was a restaurant on the water that we brought some of our fish to and they would make us fresh civeche, it was so good.

Not sure how long you're there and if you'll have a free day or not, but if you do, a day boat trip to the Ecological reserve is awesome. Water is crystal clear and you can fish on the way there and back. It's about an 45min-hour boat ride north east.

Coronado Island is the spot I was talking about so you're headed to the right place. My wife loved it there. She's not an ocean swimmer but felt comfortable due to the long sloping sandy beach and the clear water. There are several great spots all around that island.

When we went in 1998 it was really sleepy. The Hotel Oasis had a bar, and the world series was on. We were smoking our allegedly Cuban cigars and watching the Padres lose when the channel changed. We look to the bartender with our best WTF?!? expressions.

He hopped on the phone to the owner's suite. The owner's wife had changed the channel to a telanovela. LOL One cable box to share for everybody. She switched it back and we had another round of cervezas.

Some of the group went fishing today (not me). They came back with some nice fish.

The hotel put together some sashimi, ceviche, and some grilled fish together for all of us for an afternoon snack.

Doesn’t get any better than this. So good.

Today was an amazing day. About 70 of us went to the Isla Coronado. We were on small boats and the captains took us around the island stopping at areas of interest to show us turtles, sea lions, manta rays, and many other wildlife.

The islands were created by volcanos and the waters around the islands are Chrystal clear. Just amazing.

On the way to the island we ran into a super pod of dolphins. The driver said that he’s never seen this many dolphins in his life living here. There had to be at least a couple thousand of them as far as the eye could see.

We then made it to a beach we were going to hang out at for the day. One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to in my life. Can’t believe this place is only a two hour flight from LAX and there’s not that many people here enjoying it lol.

We got there around 9:30am and left close to 2pm. The beach had a nice covered area with seating and a very nice bathroom as well.

They also supplied EZ-Ups, water, beer, sodas and brought the rest of the fish from yesterdays trip and made more ceviche, sashimi and also grilled some right there on the beach for tacos.

Some of the guys had also gone diving for clams a couple days ago so they prepared those as well. We had a feast. I ate too much. Just doesn’t get any better.

The 50th wedding anniversary ceremony was today at the 300 year old mission in town. It was beautiful. The “Bride and Groom” are amazing people. To have 100 people from all over the country and even some family from Europe come to celebrate with you, you have to be great people.

Hard working couple with five great kids and many many grandkids. The old school Mexican and South American people are a dying breed. They can see through all the bullshit lol.

They’re going to have a huge reception shortly. Time to party.

Back in the early 80's I had a 19' Reinell Cuddy Cabin I'd keep in a slip in Mission Bay during the summers. We used to enjoy running down to the Coronados, doing some snorkling, spear fishing and exploring them up close on the lee side. The old casino was fascinating and fun to imagine the shuttles taking prohibition era drinkers and gamblers over from San Diego and Ensenada. Haven't been there since the late 90's, back them Mexican fishermen seemed to be overnighting in the decrepit buildings.

Interesting History and how the both places came to be named.

The ones off Rosarito Beach.

"The islands were then named the Coronado Islands by Sebastian Vizcaino in 1602 when they were sighted on his mission up the coast. He named them Los Coronados (“the crowned ones”) after four martyred saints of Rome who had died on November 8th, the same as the day he discovered the islands. Vizcaino would go on to establish relations between Mexico and Japan and brought multiple delegations from Japan back to Mexico.

No westerners would come to the area again until the Spanish returned on the Portola-Serra land expedition in 1769 and established a mission in San Diego."
