Update:

Appears the Hemi dropped a valve seat causing the valve to bend and stick open until the piston closed it. Rather than mess with it, I opted for a new ATK engine with a 4 year warranty. My mechanic who I've known since 5th grade, gave me his cost on the engine so overall, not a bad deal. Should have it all back together in the next day or so. Altogether, the new engine installed is under $7k.
My plan now is to sell the truck to my son and commandeer his Tacoma. I'm selling the Tacoma, and selling him my truck for a couple grand just to teach him a little about making truck payments...LOL
We purchased a 2024 Ram 2500 Limited last weekend and love it so far. Got it well under sticker price and got the extended warranty as suggested.

I'll be listing the Tacoma for sale once my 1500 is finished. 2003 Prerunner with 165k miles. Nice little truck.

I appreciate you updating this thread. Great to have an idea about replacement cost from the standpoint of actual cost before profit mark up.

Question on the rear gear ratio that you stated (3.55), that seems awfully low for the 37” tires and towing. Should it be regeared to 4.30 realistically? Or is that not the way it works now with these 8-speed/10-speed transmissions?

Not with the 10 speed.

1050tq at 1600rpm.

It pulls a 44ft momentum at 75mph at about 16-1700 rpm in 9th or 10th. Right at the max tq.
